My father fought with French Foreign Legion in Indochina War.....He survived......I still have the maroon beret with Silver Clasp.....& many photos....of him in Hanoi & Haiphong...early 1950s....
No biggy, we love you guys, you hold no grudge against France and we hold no grude against Vietnam. Unlike other certain ex-colonial countries which are petty beligerant idiots.
@@riv4lm4n well it our traditional, seriously we even have quotes for it "We are small people, there are no place for hate in our heart" - "we always easily forgive, but never forget" - "it better to make friends then enemies" - "there no friends nor enemies forever, it best to make benefits with all". And finally "We hate everyone equally/ even ourselves ".
@@riv4lm4n You do realise that France still has neocolonial relations with the. and still experience racism from the french, why would they like you especially in places like Haiti where they were force to pay reparations for freeing themselves from literal slavery, only finishing paying in the 50s, or nuclear tests done by France which killed and destroyed many people’s lives. Why would they be petty belligerent idiots? Why would they just get over that? Some just don’t get over being genocided and dominated with a sorry mate.
@@riv4lm4n I’m not sure if my previous comment got through but anyway. Those people are not being petty belligerent idiots for disliking the french, they still are financially and sometimes politically dominated by France. Even assuming it’s just the past why should they forgive you for your injustices against them as if they should get over it because their former coloniser thinks it rude that they dislike them?
@@zaiancomix9756 Only the Algerians does that and the Algerians were still doing slaves trades when France arrived by attacking the Mediterranean coastlines should France never forgive them for taking women and children from southern France to be sold as slaves in Alger and do some nuclear testing close to the city instead of the deserts again ?
Such an interesting battle. On the French side you had German veterans of WW2 in the Legion fighting alongside Moroccans, Algerians, Senegalese, and some local Vietnamese drafted to fight for France.
70% of French Foreign Legion was German. And Legion was main contingent of French forces. Also die hard French volunteers, many of whom had been Vichy nationalist during WW2.@@NKWittmann

I need to watch that movie, it's from the same director that made the movie "La 317e Section". They made us watch it in my military school. Great movie.
it's understandable, nowaday a hell lot of films were upscaled and enhanced with their physical record. Like Stalingrad 1949, or Liberation 1973, Tora Tora Tora,...Some are completely destroyed and unable to recover , like all of Vietnamese old movies (because they saved them by VHS or kept the physical record at terrible condition, such a fuckin dumbass).
Hell yeah! Great video comrade! Best respect from Vietnam! The main topic on this video is not focused so much to our victory! But badly during history! France's elite troop parachutist was sent a lot to Dien Bien Phu, and couldn't hold it or turn the table in this battle because our genius general set up and did that!
mainly because of numbers, vietnamese troops were under equiped, poorly trained and fed but there were a ton of them, if france had as much troops vietnam had on the territory, vietnam would have lost
The viet minh held the high ground all around Dien Bien Phu and won mainly because of their artillery. French generals didn't think they could sustain their artillery fire while carrying the shells through the jungle on foot... this battle was a furious one but there were many other legendary feats during this war, Dien Bien Phu stays iconic because it encapsulates the image of the entire war : human wave tactics versus elite paratroops and air support, the viet minh's logistical prowess through forced labor, hostile terrain and climate, fighters from a lot of different backgrounds.
156 combat jumps between 1947 and 1954 Very few helicopters available Used mainly for evacuating Wounded In early years of conflict Ju52s were used some of The paras were ex fallaschirmjaegar recruited from pow camps in germany!
@@rebel4029 Foreign legion, french paratroopers, and franco-vietnamese paratroopers. Not only foreign legion, even if they were the most present in the war as far as I know. I mean yeah, the foreign legion is badass and all, but the french army doesn't resume to just them.
Vietnamese when the clouds start speaking French: Seriously though. The Legion may have been colonial oppressors in this instance, but they had their fit down.
Тот момент когда алжирцы и сс-маны боролись ( причём лучше лягушатников ) в единых окопах ( ну лан фортах ) против коммунистических вьетнамцев, кароче говоря интербригада которую мы заслужили.
Dien Bien Phu, Vietnam ( 1954 AD) : NOT since Capitainne Danjou and the French Army's Foreign Legion put up such a valiant , staunch struggle, sacrifice, and, resistance over and against Mexican insurgents ( ca. 1863-1867 AD) , did 1er Regiment Parachutiste Etranger, put it to the People's Army of Vietnam ( PAVN) Troops, even though, the outcome did NOT favor the French.
