Paradigm basically means model. A paradigm shift is a major change to the model. The practice of keeping the bridge and groom apart before a wedding is a traditional that goes back a very long time. It seems to be connected to arranged marriages. Dairy and Azz were just continuing a tradition. Nothing weird about that. Certainly not a paradigm shift. Not even close.
