Wonder how many old films open with a steam train rolling down the track? Loved it! Good triumphs over evil.

Was a combination of romantic comedy and a little crime drama. Liked how they traced that call in seconds in 1937 compared to today. Enjoyed it.(ls)

If you liked this, watch the later British version called "Titfield Thunderbolt" (early 1950s). It was much less violent and nobody got killed, but it concerned the efforts of an unscrupulous bus operator trying to take over a much-loved branch line by derailing rolling stock and draining the water tank. Sadly, in the US, this road versus rail battle was very real in the 1930s and many good steam and electric interurban lines went bankrupt because of road competition using state-funded highways.

@22:44- As a life-long cigar afficianado, I noticed the fellow reloading his desk humidor from a new box of 'gars'. I do this once a month, but my "humidor" is a 32 bottle 'wineador' with 6 cedar drawers.

Does anybody know how the train was wrecked? I know the reason the scene is so dark is because it was filmed in too low light, what do they block the tracks, damage the rails, stick a derailleur device on the tracks? I'm just kind of confused how one guy in a car took out an entire freight train when those military videos from World War 1 & 2 show how difficult it is to actually wreck a Train by damaging the rails.

three part plan -- 1) remove the joiner plate between two rails, so that when pressure comes on it, they will separate at the far end. 2) start the unattended car rolling, so that it will be moving at high speed when it gets to the curve, 3) run an unattended (no brakes!) car downhill until it hits a curve. Even if the rail hadn't been loosened, the odds are good the car would crash.

For the wreck of the main train -- it was running at high speed, on a curve -- both very dangerous. It was also the SAME curve used for the refrigerated car. From the look on the engineer's face, he saw the gap in the rail.

Definitely enjoyable, but not a crime thriller. More like a business comedy mixed with an office romcom.

Many things around in this one remind me of a famous romantic comedy by Gable and Colbert in 1934....Good fun ! Loosely based on some facts before train era 's decline..

The bit about trains to which I was replying is gone 😎 Yes, I heard that travel can be dangerous in some countries: that you need to have money belt we'll wrapped around body, or hidden.... Had forgotten this. Yes, hope this changes 🤗 so everyone can enjoy the tracks ... at moment one needs to avoid all crowded indoor spaces: such as train or tram.

GOOF: at about 13:15, as the white car approaches the girl stranded on the road, the Sun is at the right at about 45 degrees. Moments later, with the girl walking and the car following, the Sun is now at the opposite side. Must be a long day.

That may be an example of the kinds of errors made by the person who's listed in the credits under 'Continuity.' Their job is to keep track of as many details as would naturally unfold in a real-life encounter. When the camera angle suddenly changes (by means of film editing) and the drink that an actor was holding in their right hand miraculously appears in their left - that's a sample of poor 'continuity'.
@rogerjenkinson7979
@rogerjenkinson7979 3 года назад
Right worst one I saw was due to using stock library footage in a low-budget film.The actors took off in a DC3 and landed in a DC7 having miraculously gained 2 more engines en route.

@@rogerjenkinson7979 Ha-ha! At least it didn't transform from propeller-powered to jet-powered. The Steve Martin 'tribute to Edith Head' movie called 'Dead Men Don't Wear Plaid'. Having to replicate her costumes from 30-year-old-lus movies and fit them into a contemporary film was an incredible bit of editing and continuity...different from our subject, but related.

Entertaining, but it got the roles reversed. The railroads got restrictive laws passed on commercial trucking to keep them from outperforming them.
@leelarson107
@leelarson107 3 года назад
That's just as well The rail lines are a fixed thing, but more and more trucks mean more pollution, more congested roads, and eventually lead to still more roads tearing up the countryside. I'm firmly on the side of the railroad. I've never yet had a locomotive cut me off in traffic.
