Man I lived for this band when I was in my mid teens: went to see them aged 14 in Birmingham, UK in 1994...Icon is such an amazing album. Their latest album is back to the best though...
Tell Nick, that people pays money for hearing him sing at 100%, not hearing themselves (the crowd) sing.....HE is a singer of the band, the crowd pays him to sing.....
Nick clearly doesn't deliver vocally as he used to do at the begining of 90's...some don't have the luck to keep their voice untouched by the passing years...but as for their music is concerned...to me they are by far the best rock band in the world. They constantly produced great albums, they constantly brought something new to their style...they are a prolific band...they have the best combination of harshness and emotion.
Thanks. Nice to see some honesty. If Nick ever does an autobiography it should be called: 'Nick Holmes - Getting away with it'. You can hear him struggling a bit on all the albums when you pay attention to the vocal. He just has the personality to get away with it I guess. Still a great band for CDs ;)
@DarthPietrus these guys have been around before you where even born kid, FYI this is their earlier work , saying its power/heavy metal is saying they soud like Helloween and Iron Maiden, and that couldn´t be more wrong
can't avoid to compare them to metallica all the time listening the vocals and seeing their "load reload visual" lol and yeah, testifying their aural quality cause i LOVE metallica
@DarthPietrus wtf man? paradise lost's music has nothing to do with power metal! it doesnt mean that every band that doesnt have death growls is power metal! look it up, this is gothic metal!
@dethklokstuff anyone who knows anything about metal knows about paradise lost these guys have been around since the 90's and are metal pioneers, you obviously don't know shit about music and if you like metal this is its roots and just because it doesn't sound like every cut and pasted metal band around now doesn't make it crap.
@slimebuck lol just like jarrak said...so ironic this comment coming from a guy who listens to chelsea grin...if your music isnt predictable (ie breakdown breakdown breakdown) then i don't know what is.
i completely agree with you. i saw him this spring in london and he was just awful....i love paradise lost music but i think it is not worthy to travel far (as i did) to see them live.....anyways
lol is funny how people say this is power metal, when this band was the one that inspired goth/doom bands like draconian, novembers doom and even melodeath band insomnium to exist
@OmegaDarkful Then learn to use RU-vid -- it's Switzerland in your profile. And I see you've depleted your Italian vocabulary too. Anyway my opinion stands, since you've confirmed it yourself: Holmes is not the same he was 20 years ago. He wasn't developing unfortunately. After Icon PL releases grew duller with each consequent record. Sad but true.
I went to the same concert and the sound was great except for his damned voice which just ruined it all, was such a shame, especially after the amazing Insomnium.
*Insert negative, insulting comment about Justin Bieber here so that I will look more badass, macho and "METAL" and everyone will give me "thumbs up" as if that means anything at all.*
miserable performance, the man can't sing at all, I can hardly believe he is the same Nick Holmes who delivered on Shades Of God and Icon Paradise Lost fell lower than even Metallica did
