Go for the stabilo line right away, I'd say (after stabilising the glider). It may be necessary even to go hand over hand with the line. Release. Rinse and repeat as needed.

1st thing: Fly away from the mountains and other pilots! Then start the fixing process. Can't emphasize it enough. First time I had an cravatte from launch, I started to fix it directly, not paying attention to the mountains or other pilots around me. Woke up when my instructor got his eye on me and started screaming =D That guy has a strong heart...

Did I see a red ribbon on Dave's wing. If so, that situation was a lot to deal with for a new pilot. Very well done him! What are your thoughts, for more experienced pilots and depending on there being enough altitude, about using a full induced asymmetric collapse, with either weight-shift away, or lean into the collapse to use the energy to blow the cravat out? I know big ears, and big-big ears are collapses, but you didn't explicitly mention a full assym. Also, you mentioned big ears before stabillo, whereas I would have thought most pilots would use the stabillo in their first attempts. Was there any reason for this? Would you recommend that order, or does it just depend on what the pilot feels most comfortable with? Good work - I love these educational vids you guys make, and this one again has clarified a couple of details for me.

@7:00, agreed, my one and only reserve ride resulted from a cravatte on my 08 Airwave FR, where about 2 -3 tip cells on the right side got around the center B. could not locate the stab with gloves, pulling down the right side A did nothing, and a stall with wrap only spun right, twice in two attempts.

Question, when the lines are tangled, on the ground, do you get them untangled via finding the A's and tracing the line back to the harness from the wing?

Thanks for a great video. When having a big cravette, should i throw my rescue or shall I try to land first as a beginner?
@greghamerton4422
@greghamerton4422 5 лет назад
good question, I know what you mean. If it's a big cravatte that isn't coming out, but your wing feels OK to pilot (you can make it fly straight and level), you could consider just going down to land .. it depends entirely on what your landing options look like, and if conditions are turbulent (windy, thermic) or not. Fly it with one hand on your reserve handle, if the wing stalls, or starts a spiral, you throw!

Nice video, thanks! I have a question - why not just use stabilo all the time? Why try to pull the big ear first?
@greghamerton4422
@greghamerton4422 5 лет назад
big ear removes the turn instantly (for most 'things near the wingtip'. Sometimes you need to pull the stabilo long, hard, repeatedly. In that time most pilots will be in a spiral dive from the nastier shaped cravattes. Hence my general advice for most pilots. And everyone knows where the big ear lines are. Many pilots don't instantly know where their stabilos are. If you're an experienced pilot and you're confident you can keep the wing straight and level while you find and fiddle with stabilo, by all means go for it!

It removes most all pressure clenching or holding the cravat in place as well making it easier to pull it out with stabilio.

Its a selfie stick just held by my hip against the harness (not secured). A better solution would be to strap a little tripod onto the base of your carabiner.

HI AND AS I PRACTICE WHEN I CAN. I CAN PULL A BIG EARS AND WHAT CAN HAPPEN ONE SIDE CAN GET CAUGHT IN A CRAVTE. IT CAN HAPPEN WHEN THE TIP FLAPS ABOUT. AND JUST DO AS EXPLAINED BY FLYBUBBLE TO GET OUT OF IT.. AND AS ALWAYS. DEPENDS ALOT ON YOUR HEIGHT? PARAGLIDER OR PARAMOTOR WING. " LIVE AND LEARN OR LEARN AND LIVE"

@E620SE
@E620SE 5 лет назад
Hehe, it was more like a joke ;) I wouldn't try to fix a small cravatte using a full stall. As you said, stabilo is always a good first try. But when things really go wrong and I am in a situation where I would pull my reserve and have a plenty of height left. Then I would go for a stall.

I can’t believe that they haven’t invented yet some semirigid very light plates underlying the wing and locking into a single unit as soon as the wing is inflated.
@RosssRoyce
@RosssRoyce 4 года назад
Flybubble Paragliding makes sense what you say if they stay as separate units but in my dream I’d want these to be designed in such a way that they “click” into a single, non foldable unit, kind of like the kites I guess.

Always informative but I can't believe you fly without gloves especially when talking about problems fixed by line handling. In my 14 years of flying I've had way more gloves with line cuts into them than I've had head injuries and you wouldn't fly without a helmet would you? Plus I have a kite surfing friend who lost part of this finger to a line cut. When it comes to grabbing a line and hauling it in to baba ganoush your stabilo or kill a wing to stop a drag you really want every advantage you can get and worrying about line burns should be far from your mind.

usually i love your videos. this time i think you should just take it down. just to reiterate the most important tips in this video: 1. on the ground? KILL THE WING 2. took off with it? MAINTAIN DIRECTION 3. pulling lines (a\stabi)? PULL DEEP, DO NOT TUG
@nadbaron
@nadbaron 5 лет назад
As you don't show even one cravat being opened anywhere during the video, i feel it is not professional. Also, I feel the video doesn't stress the importance of maintaining direction and being very cautious with the breaks while dealing with a cravat in the air. Third and last, I think your recommendation of pulling lines is not as instructive as it could be. most people tend to tug really strong but really short, which doesn't really help, this has also been left out of this video. In short, this video is more of an entertainment, in my opinion, than an instructive one. Thank you for you efforts and the great content. I hope you'll consider remaking this video.
