With paragliding sometimes it can get windy, here is an alternative method that could help you avoid being dragged. It is not a reason to fly in strong wind. It is especially helpful for tandem pilots.

Learn the correct techniques for landing in fresh winds first.. then decide if this technique is nessassary for you tandem flights only ?
@osmera_pg

Question: when to use this technique? After landing in strong wind i use either D-risers or i induce frontstall (strong A-risers) Even in strong wind it works perfect. In even stronger winds i dont think that i have enough power to release it this way. And i dont have quick release speed. I don't see good opportunity to use this technique. Please advice.

This technique is especially helpful for tandem pilots. As suggested in the video practice it first in NOT so windy conditions until you understand it. The 2 techniques you mentioned you are using are ok but in tandem you can encounter many problems that are easier to avoid when you use this quick out method. If you don't fly tandem very often then keep using the methods you are using but in any case its good to know this technique just in case you ever need it. Honestly here, we use this very often but that is obviously cause we always fly in wind.

@@TheFlyingIslands What if you don't succeed? I mean especially on a tandem you are not going to be able to pull enough to counter the lift of a wing unless you are really really strong - I guess there is a small window of reduced lift when releasing brakes but when you missed it you basically just let go of your main way how to control glider??? Seems like in harsh condition it is not useful and in calmer condition, there are always better options. And what about this part with two passengers? Is it allowed anywhere in the world? I know some people do that but those are usually experienced pilots/passangers which will help you with the wing..

@@Chobotification In strong wind if you don't succeed you are in trouble with all methods BUT that is why you need to practice until perfect, honestly the other known methods have the same chances of going wrong or maybe more. Using quickouts ia a good option but many people don't like them, in our case they make our logistic very slow because we change wings and harnesses often. The pressure in the wing is strong but its doable just give it a try following the step by step method and you'll see. For solo gliders we agree that there are better methods, for tandem we prefer this. We can't help with legal advice about flying with 2 passengers in your country BUT everything you see in our video is under homologation of the material (weight range). With this method you don't need help from passengers

Must the speed system always be removed before trying this technique, or will the wing depower safely with the speed system attached? Or is this best for wings that have trimmers? I'm interested in trying this for a solo glider.
@TheFlyingIslands

This system is great for tandem, no speed system attached, for mono gliders the speed system would mess things up a bit, better to use b (c) risers in mono
@JerrySuneagle

Would this help AFTER a reserve toss to depower your wing - assuming speedbar isn't an issue? Is speedbar an issue?
@TheFlyingIslands
@TheFlyingIslands 5 лет назад
We have never tried it but its a good point. In any case it seems like speed system has to be disconnected which shouldn't be a problem.

need a quick release system ;)

Seems a little unnescesary, the pilot should control the wing not remove it. Plus you'll have to untangle all the lines

Is the triple tandem BHPA approved?
@RGrubba
@RGrubba 5 лет назад
In strong wind I would prefer inducing frontstall with A-risers to kill the wing, because: - there are less chances of tangling the lines, - this technique may not be good idea when you have speed bar attached (and you should have flying in such a conditions), - I'm not sure if releasing the lock on carabineer and opening it will not stress/wear it to much
@TheFlyingIslands

It's an alternative method that we consider to be the best and probably you will feel the same if you try until perfect in not extreme situations. It's especially helpful for tandem pilots where speed system is not linked to the harness, its just best to practice in a solo glider first. Tangling the lines is not a bad case compared to get dragged with a passenger.

Just buy quickouts.
@TheFlyingIslands
@TheFlyingIslands 5 лет назад
But you may not have them, it's just better to know this technique than not to know it. One day it may save you from a bad drag.
@UmutTuncer
@UmutTuncer 5 лет назад
of course it is better to know but... but this knowledge should not be misinterpreted as an alternative method and cause a decision not to buy quick outs.
@quoth_raven
@quoth_raven 3 года назад
@@UmutTuncer There are also some reasons to not buy quick outs. There have been fatal tandem accidents because of them.

what about the Speed connection?
@TheFlyingIslands
@TheFlyingIslands 3 года назад
You could have quick out for speed system, you could take them off before landing or you could just leave them
@skizzofly
@skizzofly 5 лет назад
Talking for a sigle seat glider, Very nice.. very usefull.. but... first you need to get your speed system off, a thing that is not easy if you wear heavy gloves. Once Speed system is off, i may work, but there are to many things to do in so little time, and yes, with a lot's of wind you will be always flying with your speed system connected (it's a wing command anyway and must always be connected) Maybe at this point it's better to brutally collapse the both A's and run towards the wing as illustrated some where else, always speaking for sigle seat of course.

Very respectful opinion, we agree, BUT for tandem we still consider it to be the best chance out of trouble, please watch ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-CZ-ZLkzFlqQ.html

You can do this only in light wind conditions, if wing is fully loaded in strong wind it is harder to pull riser down, unless you unload glider with upright standing position C lines is better technique because you can control glider without using brakes to very last moment before you decide to bring glider down (less lift less drag)
@TheFlyingIslands
@TheFlyingIslands Год назад
That is your opinion and is welcome, but after using it for many years now we don´t agree with you in that C lines are better, this technique has been developed for strong wind, if wind is light you can use several different methods.
@PetrPolach
@PetrPolach 5 лет назад
I am sorry, but letting one or both breaks is just a bad practice and it can easilly make things go wrong. In my flying carrier I have never used anything else than a very agresive break/stall (C lines) or a A line collapse. Probably if you are in a position where you can let breaks off to unclip the carabine, you can easilly kill the wing the usuall way. This is a very controversial technique, that might be only usefull to trained tandem pilots in specific situations. Solo wing also have speed system and using quick release just adds completely unnecessary complexity to the whole system.

When you are a light person, and you fly with wind as is my case! This is the best way I've tried and very safe, of course I'm talking about a tandem pilot ... you should try it and then give your opinion once I do the test because it really works very well!

Please do not release the straps. If there's a lot of wind, it needs start helpers and landing aids. Is not enough, then let it stay!
