You can never rest on your Laurels when you're paragliding. I forget the number of times I've been comfortably flying thousands of feet above the ground, only to make a wrong decision and end up on the ground 5 minutes later. This one of my most extreme examples

For the record, not every decision leading to a sub-optimal outcome is a mistake. It all depends on the information available to you at the time of making it. If hindsight is the only thing that is telling you that another course of action might (or might not) have been preferable, then it can still have been a good decision. As Picard once said - It is possible to commit no mistakes and still lose. That is life.

Wise words. In this case though, I'd hooked up with another pilot briefly at 6000ft point, he went on to complete a 70k triangle so I know heading north rather than my route worked for at least one person

That's an absolutely massive area of sink. I can't fathom it bro.

Yes, it went on forever. I think I may have partially gone back into it after tagging the turnpoint

Willing to bet it was a wind convergence. I bet a 90 degree turn in either direction would've panned out okay haha. But hindsight is always 20/20 😂

Yes, that's it. Good spot. Lovely area to fly, Rutland Airsport are the local winch based club. Lovely people.

If you're a local, there's a couple of other flights from the area here if you're interested. ru-vid.com/group/PLsxo9XsFhgkWoEPpViWEAkUMx1FUI23w5

@@boardofparawaiting Great thanks. I used to be a member of Skylincs back in the day, but primarily a hill pilot. May make a visit sometime this year!

Wow, what a brilliant comment. Touché, really put me in place. Hopefully someone who knows something about paragliding will answer my question

Its the vario, beep beep means you're going up, it also makes a uuuuuuugh noise to say you're going down. Heard that quite a lot on the tail end of this flight

Yes, true, but this is boardofparawaiting. There's an explanation for the play on words bored/board, but it's too boring to explain. 😉
