How to fit all this food, camping gear and paraglider into a backpack? What to take what to leave behind?
This is my backpack packing and detailed list of my gear for New Zealand Southern Alps + variations for the Himalayas and European Alps.
2020 update:
Garmin inReach Mini (instead of SPOT), is better in every way and I've never looked back.
NO fishing line, not sure what I hoped for but I've never actually caught anything :-)
Different backpack, as Ozone finally fell apart, currently I'm using Skywalk Hike 80.
Let me know if you find it helpful :-)
Fly far, stay safe. Much love!

Great pack list, well presented. Love this and the ideas it gives me. Looks like you had a truly magnificent adventure in NZ

Nice, I love this list. I think I didn't see a flashlight on the list but I may be mistaken. Thank you for sharing. I can't wait for my first Vol-Biv adventure and I'll refer to your video so thank you Kinga!

I'm simply impressed, watched your NZ crossing as well... mind blowing and inspiring. I'm planning to go to the Pyrenees in early july(Im in Tassie), doing my own version for the xpyr. I don't even know how you managed to walk with a 24kgs bag ... Hopefully mine should be around 18kgs, but of course can't compare with the food you had to carry. Did you sleep in your wing ? never got too tricky in the tarp to repack it in the morning ? What is your next big crossing your dreaming about ? congrats again!

@KingaMasztalerz 6 лет назад
Sweet, have fun in Pyrénées! There is food there, but sometimes not much water in middle of the summer. In NZ I slept in the wing under a tarp, if you have space take a sleeping bag tho. Practice some hiking with your default weight, it will make your body (shoulders!) used to it. And then... go for it!!! :-)

Hey Kinga, can´t you provide a proper list..... with brand and model name of that specific product. Cool, for you, would be even some affiliate links to, for example Amazon for a "straight-away-purchase" with commission in your account ;-)

Hey Ho, please can you tell which glider & harnest you are using in general?
@cenomestlibre
@cenomestlibre 5 лет назад
So heavy ... terrifying. Then it is mandatory to land at the top ! (With water). Why are you using methylated spirit AND solid fuel (and wood stove) ? Isn't solid fuel (I am using that) safer to flight ? The matress as a back protection is interesting, probably weak but better than nothing. Inspiring and impressive, thanks.
@KingaMasztalerz
@KingaMasztalerz 5 лет назад
Solid fuel is good and light, it's just super messy and everything gets black, the methylated spirit is cleaner. On the NZ South Island I had only solid fuel and I wished I had methylated spirit. And yes, when I need to save fuel, I'll burn wood but higher in the mountains, there is usually no wood available.

Hey there Kinga.:) You inspired me to start vol-biv so I now want to slowly get my gear together. Can you tell me what kind of tarp/mat you use ? Hard to find a good one thats light enough i feel like
@Stephane1995
@Stephane1995 3 года назад
Mat looks like some kind of Nemo to me, I'm very happy with my tensor insulated (but watch for punctures with ultralight mats!) For tarps consider a cuben fiber tarp

And one more question, how did your solar charger performed? What brand is it? I saw on the film from your trip that you had it set up to charge during flight, how did it work?
@KingaMasztalerz
@KingaMasztalerz 6 лет назад
Dawid K it's 16W Choetech from AliExpress. Cheap, efficient and reliable. It works very well for me, the exact setup will depend on you harness, you might also have a look at wider and shorter two panel chargers, like Goal Zero type.

Hej Kinga, What was the total weight of your kit?
@KingaMasztalerz
@KingaMasztalerz 6 лет назад
Dawid K With all this food it's 23-24kg + water. For Europe it's less.
@dawidkrajewski9932
@dawidkrajewski9932 6 лет назад
Wow, that's a bit of load to carry, with water easily 26kg I imagine. Great adventure thou.
