How to create the 2.5D / Parallax Effect in Photoshop:
1. Create a selection around your foreground object with the path tool
2. Convert that path into a selection with 0,5 pixels feathering
3. Copy that selection to a new layer
4. expand the selection by 15 pixels
5. apply a 'content-aware fill' to the background layer within that selection
6. Now open the timeline and create a 'video timeline'
7. Make sure both layers are converted to smart objects
8. Now animate the 'transform' value (position and scaling) to your liking
9. When done export the animation as a video from the lower left corner (that little arrow) with the RU-vid FullHD preset.

Thank you so much for this tutorial. It is exactly what I needed and seems simple enough to do a few images quickly. Thanks!

Hello! The motify and content aware options are blanked out (I can't click on them). Any advice?

Hi, thank you for this tutorial, I am stuck at resizing layer 2 at 5:00 since smart object can't be modified with ctrl+t. It says it contains no pixels. So I changed it by double clicking it, but then it opens a new tab and the timer doesn't consider it anymore. It works fine to "move" the image, but not resizing it. Do you have any idea on how to do that ? Thank you again !

That's exactly what I am doing ...I'm modifying the smart object with Ctrl+T

@@videomarknet Thanks, but it doesn't work. If someone encounters the same problem, just use presets effects with the little "play" icon. I use panoramic+zoom, it does the job.

How did you get the selection border back after you made the "layer via copy” to expand the selection by 15 pixels? I watched every move you did and I can’t get it to come back. I’m on a Mac.

You're right. I didn't mention obviously....when you CTRL/CMD + Click the little preview icon of the layer it will select the content of the layer!

@@videomarknet It worked when I CMD + clicked the top layer. Thank you!

Why you do not use the object selection tool and use the pen tool?

Object Selection doesn't always give you perfect edges. Which would be more obvious when animating. Also practicing the pen tool is always a good idea.

on a side note ...there's a new experimental project from Adobe called 'Stardust' ...which is aiming for object selection with AI support which will do exactly what you mean. Selecdting objects with one click with a perfect mask/edge. Look out for new experimental features in Photoshop Beta.
