This is how my instructor taught me to parallel park, its pretty easy and nailed the parallel parking of the road test. - Match your cars mirrors to the other cars mirror (like how you did in the video) (Make sure to leave like 2 feet or so of space) pretty much how you spaced it out. - Turn the steering wheel 3 quarters to the right (since were parking to the right). If you want a visual of what I mean. Look at 3:32-3:36 in the video -Shift the car into reverse (make sure to check blind spots and whatnot your instructor covered) then proceed to let the car fall into place. Note- The car should fall into place where your mirrors are matching with the taillight of the other car - Finally turn your steering wheel all the way to the left and finish your parallel park. Super easy Secret tip that even my instructor uses when he parks by himself- Before you start your parallel park and you just pulled in next to the other car you will park behind (where you are mirror to mirror), you can bring your right mirror down to where you can see the curb, so when you back up the curb and your car should make a V shape. The size depends but its said it should look like a normal "V". I find it good also to see whether or not I am going to hit the curb. Note you should know for the road test if you havent taken it- The road test includes! -Right and left turns - Stop signs (both all-way and normal stop signs) - Parallel park - 3 point turn Please and PLEASE make sure to prioritize observation, got so many points dinged for it but I passed thankfully. Remember- My instructor said himself that each professor teaches differently especially when it comes to parallel parking, you should most likely follow what YOUR instructor says. Though I find my instructors way a bit easier because all I have to do is line up the mirrors, turn the steering wheel and then let the car match its mirror to the taillight. Your instructor had to make you back up a little in order to initiate the parallel park (where he had you back up to the second door handle) which is okay but as I said i found mines a bit easier. If you want learn the way your instructor says it and do it on the road test, and later when you drive by yourself you can try out my method of parking. Do what suites you though
