Roy Eugene Davis is one of the last of Paramahansa Yogananda's personal disciples still living. He was ordained by Yoganandaji with the directive to "Teach as I have taught, heal as I have healed, and initiate sincere seekers in kriya yoga." In this video he recalls his time with the great kriya yoga master, the example he set, his open sharing of spiritual practices and his enlightened consciousness.

I'm 64 and first read the autobiography at 18 as well. In total it's now been six times that I've read it over the years and every time something new always came to my attention.

What a gentle and unassuming man R.E.D. was! Such a continuous, unhalting recounting of reminisces and anecdotes this is... giving new, subtle insights into Guruji and his closest disciples. Well worth sticking to this sharing to its end! Jai Guru.

Many years back he visited New York City, and I went to his lectures and bought two books written by him. I was very much impressed by him, and I loved his books. Glad to see him on this video. I send him my best regards.

Fine. Do you have the courage to personally greet Paramahansa Yogananda in the same way ?

I had two of Roy E. Davis's books on self-realization and a copy of Autobiography of a Yogi, and think that Mr. Davis did a wonderful job of bringing the teachings of self-realization to the Western world in a way that westerners could understand. No one should get hung up on having a guru or a "Master" - unless God/Spirit brings one to you. In the beginning and in the end the only one who truly guides you is your Self who is at One with God/Source/Divine Intelligence.

Only wish I would have been a disciple by his side in this life! I find Yogananda's voice so different that what his spirit seems to be, just reading his thoughts virsus hearing him speak them. Being such a strong soul, I Guess he knew he had a mission and had to get his truth out to the people. Strong soul, strong voice.

Like good Spiritualists of all Faiths, even listening to him talk about the same experiences for a little while, has an amazing positive effect.

I see a lot of criticism here..WHY?!...The man obviously loves God and Guru and if Guru, being perfect bestowed Kriya on this man he obviously knew EVERYTHING this man would do and become...Im a devotee of the Master and see no conflict here

"Because my spirit is in it." When I hear from my readers, the best comment I ever get is "I felt like you were sitting there talking to me." And I tell them that was my intent. That comment at the end of this excellent interview was very helpful, thank you!

I have studies with one of Roy's student first, and then moved to SRF. The teachings are different in many points. Did Roy ever mentioned when and why he made these changes? Did he ever talk more extensively about it?

I have no teacher. Did Master Roy Davis agree to correspondence kriya yoga?

If that was true, why did he leave the Self Realization Fellowship? He is not initiated in the Swami Order and is profiting from the Guru's teachings just like the Ananda guy....Wolves in Sheeps clothing????

I don't think he's on the same level as Ananda with all the litigation and things that happened between the two churches but I don't think this isn't good either.

Mercedes, i would first question the SRF and trust Roy more. Can't say the same for Ananda. There are some 20K initiated by Roy that likely would not have been if SRF was their only option.. "Everything that CAN happen DOES happen." it is not up to us to question it but to work on ourselves. Take what you can use and leave the rest. sure it is nice to go to a SRF property anywhere be it Lake Shrine in LA, Encinitas, San Diego, Hollywood, etc. nice services great energy but not all of us could be devoted to the organization as many are. Not to knock them but Roy has his purpose and place and "Master" has been overseeing and guiding him I'm sure. After all Roy said himself he was always an introvert. That's not a bad thing either. ;o)

Right. Like kriyananda, he definitely has the courage to talk ABOUT Paramahansa Yogananda but apparently doesn't have the right stuff to actually personally, humbly follow the true Guru
@timetryp5473

Sounds like R.E.D had very little personal contact with Yogananda. His book, As I remembered him. is full of misconceptions. He barely remembers him at all; at least not how he actually was.

So you personally knew Yoganandaji and are fit to pass judgement on someone who spent a lifetime of selfless service following Masters instruction to teach and initiate?

I understand that he was not meant to be a true SRF monk, but I am bothered by his obvious capitalizing on his few moments with Yogananda. Also, I think the ego could not tolerate that he was left in Phoenix and not invited to be a minister in Encinitas after Guruji's death. It seems clear that the powers that were at SRF knew he was not a long time devotee and had another path to follow. Some folks don't have the makeup to follow, but must be the leader instead. When he talks about PY his words are empty.

When we play detective, our opinionated words are just as empty. Mind's distraction from what is TRUTH. "Oh look! Something shiny!" "Oh look! Something dull!" There is no difference.

I find it rather disconcerting that the PATHOS behind who is a close disciple & who is not, becomes a sticking point for accepting other devotees dharma fully. The phrase;LESS DRAMA-MORE RAMA comes to mind.
