A very clear and concise explanation of the differences between the two EQ designs. I realize that these concepts can get MUCH more involved, but you chose to avoid the tendency to "jargonize" the purpose of the video -- and I commend you for it. Please keep up the great work. A definite like.

Very interesting and informative. I’m interested to know why the fixed EQ frequencies were chosen as 250, 500, 1k etc. Was this a choice made purely for the convenience of easily to round numbers or some other reason. To me it would make more sense to use octaves starting at a standard pitch such as 440, and divide it up like 110, 220, 440, 880 etc.

Good video. I've always used graphic eq with pink noise to set my stereo system. I never tried a parametric. Thanks for the explanation.

Same here! Master "Room EQ" is another great time to use a graphic EQ. You can also accomplish the task with a parametric EQ, though! Thanks for watching!

I’ve always loved the precision of graphic EQs for taking out offending frequencies. I find them useful especially if I have two or more instruments sharing the same area. Particularly in the lows where we have bass and kick. What I take out in one instrument, I’ll leave in the other and vice versa. Since both instruments are occupying the same space, it’s barely noticeable because those frequencies are still there except no longer doubled. Typically, the only thing that happens is more clarity without loss of character. And supposing some of the character does get lost? Well what was left can be sweetened by bumping with the passive magic of a Pultec in the SubMix Bus.

I need further understanding about the changes the Q is makin. Say for example, i choose 4khz, the adjust the Q from .50 to 1.7, will it sound dark or brighter? I mean, how will you describe the changes once adjusted?

I've heard that graphical EQ's usually introduce much bigger problems than parametric EQ's in terms of phase shifting. Is that true?

Hi! I have a question. I'm using AUTO EQ by jaakkopasanen to neutralize the sound signature of certain headphones/earphones. In there, there are fixed band eq and parametric eq configurations. My question is when I apply the parametric eq to Equalizer APO Peace, should I apply the Fixed Band eq to my Windows equalizer (Realtek Audio Console)??? I apply both eqs and I'm pleased with what I hear unlike when I only use PEACE or Windows EQ. Thanks for your reply!

If you’re using correction software, I’d recommend using it for every program. That way, you can get accustomed to that sound signature.

I’d recommend applying whatever makes the end result most accurate. (Probably only one of them).
