I flew out from California to catch Paramore at the end of Adjacent Fest Day 1 in New Jersey! They just started the North America tour for This Is Why. As usual they opened with You First. I got emotional seeing one of my top favorite bands so close. The News has such a powerful chorus. That's What You Get is an all time classic and one of only two songs off Riot! that were played. Another older song followed, Playing God.
Caught In The Middle is off After Laughter, one of four they played. Rose-Colored Boy included a bit of I Wanna Dance With Somebody by Whitney Houston and Genius of Love by Tom Tom Club. Hayley's screams in Running Out of Time are unbelievable. Decode is a more unique and older song that got the crowd singing. Hard Times is so fun, I was happy to see them play it last year too. Told You So rounded out the After Laughter songs.
What really impressed me about Figure 8 was Taylor's guitar outro. The Only Exception was the only acoustic song and I'm sure a lot of fans are happy to see it return to the setlist. Crave is an attention-grabbing song on its own but what made it even more special was that a couple behind me got engaged during the song! The anticipation was building for Paramore to play Misery Business and it gets every voice going.
As we approached the end of the set, they had some heavy hitters to bring out starting with Ain't It Fun. Following from the self-titled album they played Still Into You. The set was ended with the title track off the album, This Is Why!
