Wow! That dude who got pile driven into the ground was a bloody big hit! I’m finding this to be a common link for PPG pilots, they do a pass, back off the throttle then power up and they face the earth!, why? Why is this a common error so many are making? Even one of my mates had it happen to him and it took him over a year to recover from a broken back, but as both a PG and PPG pilot and CFI instructor I question why am I noticing this common mistake??

@FritzMeowstro
@FritzMeowstro 2 года назад
Ok I know this is an old comment but there’s some misconceptions in such a short comment and I don’t want anyone to get the wrong ideas. 1. Towing is waaay more dangerous than free flight if it’s done incorrectly. You can “lock out” where you’re too far to one side and the rope pulls you towards the ground instead of keeping you in the air 2. Low heights are actually more dangerous. When you’re way up high if you suffer a wing collapse or lose some altitude for whatever reason you have time to recover or deploy your reserve chute. If you’re low down you’re hitting the ground.

@TenMillionYearProgram42
@TenMillionYearProgram42 8 месяцев назад
I guess to answer the question, in proper training, pilots are taught about all of these things. It's why the sport is actually pretty safe (relatively, of course), because most people choose to get training, and so know how the wind affects our wing and flight dynamics, and can read the weather at a basic enough level to mitigate most of these risks. Put simply, we would not fly in these conditions with training, and would not make the mistakes in these videos you see on RU-vid of accidents.

That's the common theme in most of these videos. While I love the freedom we get as paramotor pilots, I do feel like some requirement of training may not be the worst idea to visit. It's a slippery slope though and before you know it we're regulated into the ground too. Idunno...

@TenMillionYearProgram42

Kites aren't designed to handle 5+ G's, with lines made of things like Kevlar and Dyneema... So no, they're not "kites." I do get your point, but calling a paragliding wing a kite is sorta daft.
