A slight oversight from Justin is with the beginning riff, where he hammers the D string on the 14th fret; Tony Iommi hammers the A string on the 14th fret at the end of the riff.
I find a lot of people do not deserve to have a music YT channel when they can't bother to correctly demonstrate how to play an easy song. Tony Iommi has said a few times that a lot of people get it wrong. He said that even he plays it wrong live sometimes from over-exhuberance. Anyway, like you said, the last note of the riff is the 14th fret on the A string, NOT the 14th fret on the D string. @@gastondubois896 Whether someone's worthy of having a music-themed educational YT channel or not isn't really up to us, although I agree that if you're going to do demos and tutorials, at least do your due diligence and teach the people correctly. Another thing about the Paranoid beginning riff many channels get wrong is that they manually do the hammer-on / pull-offs, instead of barring the three thickest strings and doing it like Tony does.
Typed "how to play...." this song in RU-vid. As it was searching I was desperately hoping you had done a tutorial for this song. I was extremely happy to see that you have. You are the best teacher out there Justin. If you haven't covered it, it's not worth learning 😝
Dear Justin, you’re such a good guitar player so I’m hesitant to write this. But I’m a big Sabbath fan and l have to tell you that the main riff doesn’t sound right. I think it’s the last note before you go back to chugging on the sixth and fifth string you get wrong. All the best though and thanks for doing a Sabbath song!
My God how I jacked this up so bad when I was a lad. I got a few things right, but mostly it was a mess. I am glad you cleared up how to do it right! Easy song to learn, difficult to play correctly (like most of Tony's work)
FWIW, this song sounds great with fuzz, but Iommi wasn’t using fuzz. The sound comes from a combination of a treble booster, with mids and treble turned up and based turned all the way down, and the natural breakup of having his Laney amp cranked.
Too late, too late. 🙂We played that live last Thursday. Slighty differently, I use the open E string to give it more oomph. There is also a brief lick between the E and D during the verse. I think I heard that the first time on the Speak of the Devil Ozzy live record. Brad Gillis might have copied that from Randy Rhoads, I can also hear it on the Tribute album which was recorded earlier but leased later than Speak of the Devil.
wait a minute, you are correct good sir. could it be that Justin messed up the most iconic guitar riff in his lesson? I say he owes us the lesson for the SOLO to make it up to us!!!
Hey Justin, it's not right with the intro. It's not ending 2 times on the D string on the 14th fret. The second ends on the A string on the 14th fret. Please listen to the original song...! But it is a good tutorial as always. Thank you for the good work.
i just bought an electric guitar and it sounds nothing like yours, when i hammer down the tone just dissapears, i want that electric sound that i was expecting when buying the guitar
