Many of you know that my favorite movie is Coraline, and it was produced by the fabulous animation studio, Laika. In this video, I dive into Laika’s second movie, Paranorman, by discussing characters like Norman, Agatha, Mr. Prenderghast, and the Court Judges. I then set up a massive timeline for the whole universe, question who the first curse holder was, and dissect the last scene of the movie!
The Theory Channel
Music: By Epidemic Sound, and the Super Paper Mario OST.
DISCLAIMER: I DO NOT OWN ANY OF THE VISUAL CONTENT IN THIS VIDEO. ALL MEDIA IS FROM GOOGLE. THE ONLY THING I OWN IS THE THEORY ITSELF.

I think that the 7 judges died shortly after Agatha did. Because if they would have died later, then they would look a lot older than they do. In fact they look the same as when they were alive.

The thing that struck a cord with me in this film was the capitalisation,which is still very true in our society. Around where I live,there were a group of witches who got executed,and now there's a Halloween walk based around them where kids dress up to go and have a laugh. It's like after all those generations we forgot that these were real people with real lives,who actually got killed. This film is about a little girls death,and how the town seemed to forget that's all she was,a little girl,not a tourist attraction. We take people's deaths and make costumes and plays,and pretend like all of the fear never happened,we wash away their story's truth,and leave a hollow pretend idea. We act like those people never died,and it scares me...

Yeah, it is really sad to see that most forget about just how damaging the witch hysteria really was, it wasn’t just in Salem either, witch trials have roots that go back to the 1500s or so, the first record of such was in Ireland, I don’t think anyone was executed in that trial fortunately.
@Behlsy
@Behlsy 2 года назад
Now that I recall, it may have actually been in the 1300s that this trial took place.
@Behlsy
@Behlsy 2 года назад
It was in 1324 to be exact, I did research for a podcast episode i did a while back and I still had it in my notes app.
@Behlsy
@Behlsy 2 года назад
And there was people that were burned at the stake that we’re accused of witchcraft in this trial sadly, but the one that is named (Alice Kyteler) escaped before she could be executed.
@colinmoore7460
@colinmoore7460 2 года назад
@@Behlsy I don't think many, if any, witches were burned. At least not in England. Catholics (and Protestants, depending on which one the King or Queen was) were burned, witches were hanged, slow death by strangulation not quick with a broken neck.

Norman had to stop the curse for good since he botched his job as curse holder and the judges came back from the dead for the first time in 300 years. Also couldn't we theorize Agatha had an older family member with the gift and that person kept the curse at bay and they managed to live long enough, nearly 100 years, until the ability could be passed down once again?

It's been a while since I saw the whole movie. But, in the final confrontation between Norman and Agatha, he points out that she has lost her humanity, i.e. that hate has turned her into something else. It's wrong to suggest that these are "magic powers" that she has acquired. Or, at least, that is a very different interpretation than what was given in the movie itself. She's angry about having been punished unjustly. She's right to be angry, but she's wrong to seek revenge. Her hatred turns her into a monster that terrorizes the whole town. It's not like a superpower that she can use for good. She becomes evil by seeking revenge.

Lol it was common sense for me at the end of the movie lol what did the witch's curse had anything tondonwith the spirit ofbthe dead? He was supposed tonstop the dead from rising not get rid if the spirits of the dead lol it made perfect sense that he would see his grandmother in the end what i wanted to know was where the hell was she the whole movie and why donwe only see her in his room if she claims shes always watching out for him why wasnt she there helping him with Aggie? She gave great advice but i believe his grandmother was special she wasnt just a ghist who passed she explained that naturally she was supposed to pretty much be in paradise with her husband and his grandfather but she CHOSE to stay to look out for him what does that sound like? A ghost? No more like his guardian Angel to me. I find it weird shes the ONLY spirit we see in the end but no others but it would make sese for her tibstaybsince her unfinished business is/was to take care if her grandson the activities where just a bonus reason she stayed lol i deff considered her more a guardian than a normal spirit who died suddenly i wonder if the promise she made had any significance on her staying vs going to the land of the dead as well. Where was she for the entire movie? Watching tv in Norman's room? Lol 😆

In defense of "The Boxtrolls" I should say that it also has a long timeline where a mystery is unveiled of an abduction about a dozen years before the start of the story. I think it is a better movie than Paranorman, although they are both very good. The Boxtrolls has a memorable performances by Sir Ben Kingsley as the villain and Elle Fanning as a friend of the protagonist. Also the random philosophical reflections of one of the villains henchmen (Mr. Trout, played by Nick Frost) are hilarious. Despite the immense amount of humor in the script, the story still has an overriding heartfelt message. I would not have even seen this movie if someone had not given me the DVD as a gift. Looking at the cover I thought it probably would not be my cup of tea, but I was very wrong. It was great.

Who says the "curse" only follows the paternal or male line? There would have been more females down the years.And with a small town Agie could have been Normans multi great aunt on BOTH sides. And it may not have skipped any generations, they just kept quiet about it, not wanting to get their necks stretched too.
