The harsh servitude and bondage of the Children of Israel begins in this week’s Torah portion, and Pharaoh’s decree of withholding straw from the people ‘is the last straw’… and places the Israelites in an untenable, torturous predicament. Their rescuers were none other than the ‘officers’ of the Children of Israel who protected their people with selflessness and compassion, teaching us an eternal lesson: we can all shine a light that illuminates a path to Redemption from the midst of the darkness of exile.
The Torah portion of Shemot (Exodus 1 : 1 - 6 : 1) is read on Shabbat, Tevet 21, 5783 - January 14, 2023

"Our deliverance beckons to us from within our crisis, as our true selves, our essence, our potential shines forth, enabling and empowering us to journey from exile to redemption". These words are so profound Rabbi and Hashem uses you mightily to speak such beautiful wisdom. Thank you for your heart, thank you for your service, thank you for your work to speak the truth of Torah to precious souls. Shabbat shalom 💓

Great teaching Rabbi, I have a question, I'm reading in Leviticus about the grain and bread offerings. If all they had to eat for 40yrs was Manna where did they get the oil, grain, wheat ect for offerings Egypt? or the booty from waring with other tribes, thank you so kindly for your time, Shalom 🕊

the narrow place, why was it the narrow place? so many connotations.

Torah, like its Author is endless, infinite. That's why there are so many connotations. Your answer, one of many, is in the video.

In Hebrew, Egypt is called Mitzrayim. According to the text on Jewish mysticism, the Zohar, the name is derived from m’tzarim, meaning “narrow straits” (mi, “from,” tzar, “narrow” or “tight”). When God took us out of Mitzrayim, He extricated us from the place of constricted opportunities, tight control, and narrow-mindedness, where movement was severely limited. Each of us lives in his or her own mitzrayim, the external or physical narrow straits of financial or health constraints or, perhaps, personal tragedy; universally, the psychological burdens to which we subject ourselves. Like the duality in virtually all of Passover’s symbols, they work in two ways: they turn us into both slaves and oppressors, of ourselves and others. Passover leads us to question the values and attitudes we hold and which hold us to those roles. From: My Jewish Learning
