Another change that could help would involve those contracts that actors sign with their sponsors and entertainment firms. There should be a clause to prevent these businesses from withdrawing income and support until after the trial has concluded. Because the impact from a crazed netizen community is also a major factor in these situations.

So the celebrity in contract won't lose so much (income, image, psychological damage) even if they're proven innocent. Knowing these days anyone can point fingers and make senseless claims, giving the authorities an excuse for witch hunt as a way to boost their achievement in public's eyes
@@shintarusli3532 I work in advertising and this would be difficult. Imagine someone on trial for rape, an advertiser couldn’t use the celebrity in those circumstances even pre-trial. If they are proven innocent or no charges are made then the advertiser or entertainment company should be obliged to immediately reinstate and extend the contract to cover the period in which it was paused.

@@shintarusli3532 well anything is possible, it’s just that advertisers tend to try and avoid any negative or potentially negative associations. The contracts as written currently seem very one way. The accusers can be sued, to recover lost earnings but they are usually broke keyboard warriors or nefarious individuals without assets to cover the lost earnings and reputational damage. Alternatively the celebrities’ agency can take out insurance against lost earnings in these type of circumstances but that is very expensive so I suspect they don’t do this often. It’s not a perfect solution as investigations and trials can take years in which the actor/celeb can’t work. Plus no one can see a malicious attack coming. It’s also probably difficult to sue the police as they can always claim error or incompetence and these unfortunately are not criminal acts.

I'm glad that Bong Joon Ho is leading the cause for a full investigation. Someone needed to step forward to the unjust way Mr. Lee was being treated. This will hopefully save lives and reputations of all South Korean artists in the future.

This is a bold and admirable move by the respected Director Bong Joon Hoo and the other artists who are willing to stand up for what is right and avenge the wrongdoings committed against their beloved colleague Lee Sun Kyung. May justice prevail and his name cleared. He is dearly loved by fans and colleagues alike not only because of his immense talent but also because of his character.
This was a classic textbook of how things went wrong. Law enforcement, without due process, was irresponsible in the handling of privacy investigations of celebrities. This led to the dramas and chaos of the media circuits for money and greed pushing him to state “there was no other way”. I hope the family will sue the women and law enforcement. He still had a full and vibrant life to live for his family. 🙏
It's good to know that the amazingly talented director everyone praise for his talent is a kind-hearted people who is brave enough to stand up for his colleague. I think an inquiry is required, he was innocent of the drug charge. To me it appears the police investigation may have been flawed. And he was a target of a witch hunt by the media. Here in the Netherlands we have an Im Memoriam on national TV for wellknown public figures who have passed during the year Lee Sun-Kyun was also shown, and my heart broke. The world is watching you all, South-Korea. Do better for justice because an interrogation that lasted for 19 hours straight is only done by countries ruled by dictators. Test after test showed that he did not have drugs in his system and yet he was hounded by the media and netizens.
It’s such a shame. His projects were brilliant and he was a delightful actor. The pressure that was put on him felt very stigmatizing and hurtful. I hope that the parties that were involved in the investigation will be hold accountable for situations like these in the future.

From Washington State USA............Please do all you can to change the way celebrities are treated. I think the police, news media, Sponsors....all should be taken into account for Lee's death. It was horrible horrible news and I applaud his friends for finally stepping up to help him though he has passed away his family deserves all you can do and prevent in the future. Espically his sons who have to live with the fact their father committed ( supposedly ) suicide for the rest of their lives and when they need him his absence will be even more painful. I do not advocate drugs or cheating but in the male world they have a secret society ( you men know ) and it has gone on for hundreds of years...even more....and it will go on. So why was he made a scape goat for what probably the men condemning him are doing the same. I found that to be so very sad. I am a Grandmother and have seen the way of the world so I know he was turned on by so many people. Even his friends turn away. Some of them or all of them. The agencies should also support the call, this is for the protection of their artists, who were used and blackmailed if not by the authorities, but also by common criminals, because they know how fragile the image of each artists, and will definitely obey what they please to not tarnish their names in the media and social media. The image of each artists are their bread and butter.
I know some people said, it's too late and that they should've stood up for the late LSG earlier when there's a chance. But I think, we never know the real story between them when LSG was in police investigation. I'd like to think LSG's friends were there to support him non-publicly, because LSG himself would tell his friends to not speak up about his case in public. Knowing such a good friend he is to his friends, he wouldn't want his friends got dragged down with him. But you see the impact of LSG's death was so powerful and felt unjust to them. His friends want to give him justice and peace after his death, willing to stand up together against the police department publicly demanding a clear closure with truth. This is not only for the late LSG, but also for the sake of his family and to prevent this to ever happen again to another individual(s) in SK entertainment industry.
Why is this keep happening to these artists? This so unfair to him, his wife, children, and family. Was he a Saint maybe not, but who are we to judge and ruin someone's life. And it's always the media who makes things so much wrost. The police needs to give an explanation period. 😭

Interesting how my post about exposing celebs to photo-shoot lines every time they were called on hearings in ongoing investigations also constitutes as unlawfull leaking of informations about ongoing investigations, suddenly dissapeared. Okay. Then once more. Other potential suspects involved always have their faces physically covered (and blurred by media) , as well their names hidden. But not in case of Korean artists. Which is not only unlawful, hinting their guilt like that also breaches presumption of innocence till THE COURT proves their guilt. Nobody is supposed to prove their innocence as were forced to prove their own Lee or G-Dragon or Yoo Ah In. It is the opposite - guilt must be proven. It is up to the police and a prosecutor to prove their guilt in the Court of law. Police is not the entity that decides about someone's guilt, but in all these recent cases police was doing exactly this. Korean LAW prohibits leaking of informations about ongoing investigations, and yet police was leaking it. Calling press to be there after and before every hearing of actor Lee, G-Dragon or Yoo Ah In, IS LEAKING INFO ABOUT ONGOING INVESTIGATIONS. Police should protect the Law and Constitution, not breaking them. It is time that someone takes responsibility for this. It is also time for Korean journalists to form an ethical professional Committee if they still don't have one, accept and implement their national journalist codex of of ethics in accordance to global journalist codex of ethics, and inspect as well as take professional measures of expellment from profession for each and every Korean journalist that breached the codex of ethics. This simply must be done. Lee's case is a wakening call. Clean your own lines too, Korean journalists! Protect your own profession!
South Korea, such a futuristic country yet so outdated and archaic in many of it's thoughts and practices. Despite negative tests, this man had no one standing beside him when he needed them, everyone is scared of being 'tainted by association'. And let's say he did do drugs, so what? Don't people deserve compassion, sympathy and help rather than being run into the ground? I hope more protections are put in place for entertainers, artists and idols. Bravo to friends and colleagues for stand up for what was done to him ! Just in reading about how this police investigation was handle anybody can see a lot of mistakes were made ! He told them that he was blackmail by this woman , she never talked to until after his suicide ! The press hounded this man to his death and there is blood on there hands ! I don't understand how entertainers are judge simply for living there life ! And holy hell if they make a mistake as all humans do ! There a famous actress who got involved with a married director ! She has been called every name in book but the man is still making movies ! And only work she gets is in his films ! A singer was accused of drug use no proof but still front page news ! He took his life , even though it was revealed after his death that all drug tests were negative ! And the list goes on and on with those in the public eye commiting suicide ! It's easier to stand up when the public is on your side. But when he was alive getting bullied by the police, media, and netizens... they were silent. And when he lost all his jobs and was getting fined unjustly... they weren't defending him. While he was alive and under investigation was when he really needed his friends and colleagues supporting him. If they call themselves his friends and claim to care for him... they owe him an apology too. I was hoping to see more people speak up about supporting your friends when theyre alive. Im kind of disappointed that everyone is looking to see who can take the blame. This is my personal experience. I have been bullied and it was the silence from people I thought cared that made me want to give up. Silence from people you hope care can make someone solve a temporary problem with a permanent solution. I am no way say the blackmailers and police aren't responsible for starting this... because the police definitely tried to force him to take the fall so some higher ups can have a win on a high profile suspect. But another fact was he was under investigation and he losing everything without even going to trial.

It's normalized because the media doesn't have high standards and integrity. Someone who is losing his job .... getting black balled... getting fined millions.... wife selling her properties. He had to send his son overseas for schooling after this started. He was dropped from all his projects. He had a family to support. The companies dropped him because of the bad press from media and netizens. He went through 19-hour interrogation before he died. Asking someone what happened doesn't take 19 hours. He was being pressured (bullied) in order to take a fall so police could have a high profile sacrifice. When he was going through this... I didn't see anyone from his industry speak up for him and say this isn't right to fire someone and fine him for not completing the projects because this is just an investigation. I didn't see anyone questioning why his name was leaked to press during an investigation. If he felt like his future was still secure because all his industry friends and peers were going to continue to work with him, i don't think he would have felt as hopeless. He is a grown man... but words do hurt when you're an entertainer with a clean reputation, and the stain caused you to be dropped from everything.
I am impressed by how they came forward. The police, media and hypocritical netizens pushed him over the edge. No one burns its public figures faster than Korean society. I hope this is the beginning of a mentality change.
