Mine were always pretty clunky using 8/0, but when tied with 16/0 Nanosilk or Veevus, the fly becomes more delicate. Great tie Charlie!

I tie something similar but with 2 separate posts. I then wrap hackle around each individual post. Called a Water Walker style, and first introduced to me in Terry Hellekson’s classic. According to Terry, the alternating tilted hackle provides for a superior, realistic profile when compared to conventional Catskill and parachute styles. I think it offers the benefits of both. Admittedly, the style is complicated like you said and as Terry says, it’s not a style conducive to commercial tying. To give appropriate credit, Terry says that the style was introduced to him by Frank Johnson of Streamside Anglers.

Great video, Charlie. After watching Jack's video numerous times, I cursed at that pattern many times! Once I got it figured out, it worked amazingly well.

I learned to tie flies with Jack Dennis’ videos but I don’t recall seeing this pattern, probably because it is an advanced pattern. I agree that the double wing probably doesn’t buy you anything more but headaches. Yes, Adams are essential fly patterns.

The rib is a killer. A few years I ribbed some Hendrickson Parachutes with Mirage Opal tinsel. We had a hatch with what seemed to be thousands of bugs on the water and they did not want anything I was throwing. Why would they? There was plenty of real food without the pointy thing sticking out the back. I put one of the ribbed flies on and wham! Turned out to be a good outing. Yes, rib those dries! (Gotten, caughten...hehe)

I tie Dennison’s “ Bastard ADAMS” from one of his old books. Very similar variation and it is my confidence dry fly. I use Sulky tinsel as a rib.

It seems awfully complicated and time-consuming to make a parachute Adams dry fly, but on a cold, snowy winter day, why not?

What about using a drop of uv resin once you get the wings separated? Split the wing, a little uv… press/pull to desired angle and set!

Good vid. If you were to tie a traditional Gray Wulff what would you use for the wing hair? Moose hock?

Charlie calls complicated. Tells me I should still be able to do it or just being lazy. I accept I am, and shall remain, lazy.
