Parents of Parkland Shooting Victim Cry While Hearing Autopsy Findings 

The doctor is not cold. He is a human being and obviously feels for the parents of the victims but it would be extremely unprofessional to go up there and start showing his emotions.

As a parent, sitting 15’ away from this animal while hearing what he did to your son or daughter would be absolutely gut wrenching. I genuinely don’t understand how they kept it together. The restraint the families showed during this trial is one of the most incredible things I’ve ever seen.

The doctor is amazing. I can see in his eyes he bears emotions and empathy for the parents, but you can't hear it and you can't see it from his body language. He is very professional and that's what I imagine the parents wants. They are going through enough pain as it is, imagine watching a professional break down that has dealt with death so many times. That would crush them completely.

The look on the faces of the parents absolutely breaks my heart. I could never be so strong as them.

I’ve read a few comments about Dr. Osbournes’ demeanor, and feeling that he seems a little “cold” when describing the injuries. Medical providers, whose job it is to deal with trauma/death day-in and day-out, definitely develop the ability to disassociate from their emotions. They couldn’t do their jobs if they didn’t. People having anxiety, shock, and stress reactions have difficulty thinking clearly. In these particular professions, we desperately need those among us who can put these emotions aside temporarily to do these very necessary jobs. These people, like anyone else exposed to violence in a society, do take all of this with them however. All of the witnessed trauma and violence to human beings, big and small, creates a type of PTSD that each deals with in their own way. The brutality of our world is an astonishing thing, and these dedicated professionals act as it’s witness.

As a medical professional we are trained to separate our emotions to our visitors/patients. There’s a certain extent that we have to protect our own emotions as well. If you allow yourself to feel everything we wouldn’t be able to work in the field we are in

I can tell you as someone who has worked in an ICU for 40 years, there ARE TIMES that our emotions for not only the patient, but FOR THE FAMILY , does get to us, and we do take it home, and its difficult to get it out of our minds. Many is the time I've got off shift, got in my car, and just sat there and broke down. Many times I've embraced total strangers and shared tears with them. My heart goes out to these family's whose lives are changed forever. Losing a loved one is always devastating, but to lose your child in this manner.....I cant even imagine it.

The constant frowns on their faces just breaks my heart. The pain they must be feeling is unimaginable. I just pray that in time they find peace

I appreciate the professionalism of the doctor. I can see he was masterfully covering them, but the emotions are there. That is clearly a man who cares very much about his job, and is ensuring that his testimony is as thorough and respectful as possible to get justice for these victims. Checking on his notes for accuracy is already important, but the fact that he ensured it was acceptable to refer to them each time - he wanted to be sure nobody had room to say anything about it later. He is a man covering his bases and taking his job so seriously. He has my respect.

This makes me so angry. I cant imagine sitting in the court room with a complete stranger who essentially took away the person you gave life to. Watched their first steps, their first smile and laugh, their first birthday, family dinners, movie nights, sports games, falling asleep in your bed because there scared at night, so many memories just for them to be taken away by one selfish person who you didn't even know existed. for no reason what so ever. it's not fair and I feel so awful for the parents

All I can think about is how that father began to cry when they read his child’s height and weight….I’m sure all he could think about was the day they were born and how much they weighed then😢 so sad I would never want to experience anything remotely this painful

Enormous respect to the doctor who kept it very professional and thanks to people like him in his profession, we can solve crimes and know what happened to our loved ones.

Kudos to the professional doctor. Must’ve been very difficult to autopsy all those children.

That poor man was suffering while having to explain the wounds in front of those poor poor parents...this is sickening and heartbreaking

Those burns on the second victims wounds and that fact that the entrance wounds were on the anterior aspect of the body means that poor girl was looking at this animal in face as it was killing her. I cannot express how much hate I have for him. I cannot imagine what the parents are going through. The doctor did an amazing job. My prayers lay with all the families which have to suffer because of this animals actions

The doctor is awesome. He’s provided great detail and explanations of how things are caused and why . You can see it’s difficult for him to speak about these children who died . He too goes home with these images and details in his memory . It’s hard to tell families how their loved ones died .

Hearing the autopsy findings, it’s like being able to see/ understand how it all played out and the fact that he literally doubled back to kill people he had already maimed and shoot them at point blank range shows that he knew exactly what he was doing. He wasn’t insane or having a mental break, he was just angry and full of hate and wanted to do as much PERMANENT damage as possible. I feel really bad for the families. They didn’t deserve any of this and neither did the kids who died / were injured and the teachers.

My deepest respect to him. His testimony is crucial. I'm sure that as much as he tries to control his emotions, he carries that horror with him. I think he reminds himself of the importance of his testimony to at least bring some justice to the victims.

How horrible for the parents to see the pictures of their children in a table after an autopsy! That’s the worst nightmare that a human being can live through! I can’t even imagine…

This comment isn’t meant to suggest the women in the courtroom aren’t feeling exactly the same but I’m beginning to see as much anger in the faces of a couple of these fathers as I see grief. The self control it must take to keep yourself from getting booted out of the courtroom in this situation is immeasurable.

Not a single parent in that court room, didn’t have bags under their eyes, from all the tears & sleepless nights, since the day their child was taken from them. You can feel their despair, anger, sadness, & inconsolable pain & loss. No parent should ever have to bury their child. They are unbelievably strong for remaining in that room, where the murderer of their child, while they hear, how their child suffered & died. I know that not a single person that watched those poor parents cry, didn’t shed tears along with them, felt their pain, or sympathized with them. I’m a single mother of 3, one is no longer with me, in person. But he is always with me I’m spirit. I can sympathize with these parents, & know the never ending pain. ⚠️Edit: some people commented that these grieving parents have bags under their eyes, because they are old. Obviously those who commented this, are young, or fortunate enough to not have felt the horrible pain of loosing someone. Another said, they feel no empathy for someone “they don’t know, or knew existed”, & basically called me exhaustingly, & needlessly “emotional”. If feeling sympathy for a fellow human being that is in pain. Specially over the loss of their murdered child, while they hear how their bodies were damaged, & how they died. Make me a needlessly emotional person, then I guess I’m needlessly emotional🤷🏻‍♀️.

The doctor thought 100x times before choosing a word about wounds to not hurt families. He was so professional yet I felt how the first father catched every word like "chest, heart". I am rooting for those people.

imagine having to hear such specific detail of the wounds that caused an immense amount pain for your child and ultimately killed them, in the same room as the person that inflicted the wounds. these parents are strong for baring this. i am usually good at maintaining composure, but if i were one of those parents, i know i would break down. i would have to try so insanely hard to not physically lash out at the killer when he’s in the same room.

The implication of defensive wounds, the burn marks from the barrel being so close, and multiple fatal shots is really damning, feels like a good argument for death penalty.

I'm actually crying looking at the dad's reaction. How could anyone do this to another human being let alone a child

Gina Montalto's parents broke my heart. No parent should go thru this. I'm shedding tears for all these families who lost their babies, there are no words.

I’m not a parent but I feel for these parents so much. I’m so sorry for your loss.

I'm a medical professional and we are definitely trained to separate our emotions from our profession. Early in my career I learned this the hard way after having preemie drug babies die on me. Emotions create burn out. Burnout creates negligence. This is why we're trained the way we are. 16 years later I can assist in any death or postmortem care and not react.

Covering your ears while the screams of the children you slaughtered play, scribbling in a notepad while their horrific autopsies are recounted. Just unfucking believable.

I wanted to be a Medical Examiner growing up, but decided to go into Pharmacy instead. I made the right choice, there’s no way I could mentally withstand doing autopsies on anyone, especially children… my heart goes out deeply to this doctor and the victim’s families… 😞💔 Bless them all, please…

The way all the families look out for each other is remarkable. I'm so sorry for all the loss you've had to suffer. No parent should have to bury their child, but this is a rotten world we live in. I pray for everyone involved. I hope you find peace and healing.

To carry a child in your womb only to one day be taken by an evil soul- heartbreaking. My heart goes out to the Mum and of course the father. God bless them.

This man is extremely smart you can just tell in how he talks, and how much school did this man do and 2500 autopsies is crazy to think about, and 120+ forensics cases is even crazier and I can’t imagine how he felt working in these poor young lost souls

That is so horrible. I'm not even halfway through it and I'm already bawling. These poor people didn't deserve this, I hope they rest forever in peace. And I hope the murderer goes out a horrible horrible way to make up for the horrible actions that he did not only hurting so many victims but also their families. The coroner has my full respect. I could never be in a job where I could witness that and still be sane.

These families are exhausted. Look at the bags under their eyes. The grief of losing their child and sitting through this is more pain than I can imagine.

This Dr not only is professional he is COMPASSIONATE. He cares

The fact that Cruz is just sitting there scribbling in his notepad while the descriptions of the autopsies are being given is driving me crazy.

I can’t imagine the horror of listening to your child’s autopsy in court with the monster that murdered them right there. My heart breaks for Gina’s and all of the other victims parents. I would lose it and try my best to get my hands on him.

This is the most heartbreaking thing I've ever seen. I don't understand how the parents are even functioning during this.

For those of you who don't work in Healthcare, you have no right to judge. He is a professional doing his job. Would you rather he joke and laugh at these morbid descriptions? As difficult as it is to hear for these families, I'm sure they appreciate his professionalism and informing us of what these poor souls endured. Would you expect the same or less if it was your child? Until you have walked in those shoes, as have I, your opinions are undignified.

So, so very sorry to these families. The fact that none of them tried to kill this guy in court is truly astonishing. I am so very proud of these mother, fathers, brothers, sisters and friends of all the victims. So very proud of their resilience and strength. God bless them all. So sorry again

The agony on the parents faces is unbearable. So terribly sad they’re going through this. Unimaginable pain and disbelief.

The look of complete rage and utter heartbreak of her father is super telling. It's taking every ounce of strength he has to contain his composure and not strangle the piece of garbage who killed his daughter.

The doctor btw did an amazing job testifying. I can't imagine how hard it must be to testify in front of families about the cause of death of their loved ones.

I am a Doctor, and I can tell he did an excellent, professional and necessary description , but at the same time I am thinking about how painful was for parents to be there and hear that in details. My profound respect for all of them. 🙏

I don’t think the Doctor is being cold at all. I actually think he’s trying to be professional whilst recounting all of his horrific content and doing his best not to show too many emotions in a room full of the victim’s partners. Hats off to him for doing his job in such a professional and composed way.

I couldn’t imagine sitting less then twenty feet from the person that executed your child, I wouldn’t be able to sit there and be quiet… these parents are completely broken inside. You can see it in their eyes when they’re looking around… this is heartbreaking. Something’s got to give guys, we can’t keep this up.

This ME has my respect and I appreciate all persons in the medical field that can keep themselves composed and professional. Also, the ones who say he’s cold, he’s testifying 4 YEARS AFTER this tragedy happened! That’s 4 years to compose himself. I’m sure the days and nights after doing all those autopsies for those innocent souls were some of the worst he’s had to go through. Plus after doing over 2500 autopsies, I’m pretty sure he has a way to deal/heal with what he sees. God bless him and all medical professionals that have to see, find out a diagnosis, and give the news to the families of loved ones that they have treated. 🙏💕

What makes this doctor "cold" exactly? Did a single person question any of the indications he reported during the autopsies? No. He is maintaining his composure and remaining level-headed so that he can accurately deliver all the information needed to complete this trial. He could not have been more respectful to the families of the victims than he was by his professionalism.

It's a little comforting to see this father with his arm around his wife. An incredibly high number of couples who suffer the loss of a child don't succeed at maintaining their marriages. I am glad they still lean on each other. 😔

Seeing these parents with a constant frown and deeply saddened just hurts man. Just hurts. I couldn’t believe having to be there for your dead child whose killer is sitting across the room.

It’s sad bc I feel like a lot of these parents feel DEEP down that this is the last time they can be close to their kids and find out their babies last moments !

The Doctor sounds like such a sweetheart. You can tell he was getting choked up but kept it professional. I’m glad he couldn’t tell in what order a person was 🔫 no one needs to hear how a person suffered before they passed. 🙏🏽

If this young man doesn’t get the death penalty there is seriously something wrong with our legal system

Oh man, those looks of pain mixed with disgust mixed with anger mixed with hurt, despair, grief...They're all there in the same faces at the same time. It's agonizing.

I honestly give so much respect to the parents of the victims i can’t imagine what it’s like to have to essentially relive the horror of that day with this trial, let alone sit in the same room with the person who took their children’s lives without wanting to scream or lunge out at him. I hope that their journeys to a more peaceful life comes to them.

Those poor parents look so sad, lost, confused and angry.. you can just tell their lives hasn't been the same since that day.. you can tell they've cried everyday since, like it happened yesterday.. that pain will never go away for them. God bless them all.

25:00-26:00 he didn't just shoot far away like you think. He stuck his weapon right to that 14 yr old girls skin. He was up close. How horrible. We need to know how evil this is.

I know how it feels to loose a child. 2011 I lost my 11 yr old son in a fire. I was devastated. I still cry. The parents of these angels need our prayers and love. Stay strong!! Never give up!! And when this animal gets the ultimate penalty, make sure you live long enough to be there to show him you enjoy his fear.

I get this Doctor. I respect him. He's professional. I've worked in a funeral home, housekeeper at a hospital and now as a caregiver for the elderly. We care, we show our emotions at the proper time. We Must stay professional on the job. Or we end up neglecting our clients, patients and/or the families. And we are there to help them.

This doctor spend his life gaining expertise in a very emotional domain to try and heal a little part of a broken world. It must take a strong character to be able to live the life that he lives and for that he and all others like him have my deep respect.

My heart bleeds for the families of the victims. Our justice system not only failed the victims but took a crap in the face of the families.

Imagine working hard all your life to raise your children and you plan every steps of the way to try to raise a good healthy child and then to be taken away just like that by another child bc he felt like it. I cannot imagine the pain those parents have to endure. It’s truly beyond words….

This is devastating not just for those poor children to die in such a horrific way, but for the parents as well. You know EVERY SINGLE DECENT parent would trade positions with their children in a heartbeat. It’s unthinkable to know you’ve gone your whole life, raised a beautiful child, and have that ripped away and then having to carry on the rest of your life having lost all your purpose.

He explains things so well. I am in admiration of his job and heartbroken for the parents who bravely listened to all the details.

My brother is a Forensic Medical Examiner for 13 years. I have a tight bond with him and I can say that he changed just a year fr working in the morgues and hospitals. He rarely talks about the deaths his worked on due to confidentiality probably but when he does, he talks vaguely and seemed to not be bothered by the scene he was just at. However, during his first few months, he would come home mortified, spaced out, or I'd often see him drink water more often than when he's just at home, not working. All I'm saying is that Dr. Osbournes' demeanor is completely normal for me. Watching my brother over the years, I feel like he got used to sucking up whatever he's feeling, no matter how mortifying the scenes he's seen -- he got used to it that he now talks like it just doesn't bother him at all --- otherwise, he'd long quit his job.

He explained it as professionally and clinical as possible. My heart goes out to the victims and their families.

The look of the parents pain is the most heartbreaking thing. I can’t help but to cry. The ME is phenomenal. Intelligent and professional.

As a parent, I would probably sit through this too because although sad and gruesome, it would be like the last time I'd hear anything about my child. The last person who has been with my child describing what he saw last.

These parents are here for their children. Bless their souls.

The parents are so brave sitting through that, listening to how their child had defensive wounds and were shot with the muzzle touching the skin. The images that must be burned in their minds of their child's last terrifying moments. They force themselves to stay in the room to honour their children. They must have to fight the urge to just go for him.

I don’t know how these poor parents suffered through this man’s testimony. I feel bad for him for having to give this testimony. You can tell he’s uncomfortable doing so. Watching this makes me so angry. I would not be able to control myself with that monster killer sitting in front of me. Prayers for all the families affected by this.

Watching this my heart absolutely breaks for the parents, siblings, friends and loved one's of the victims. I can't even begin to imagine the pain of the parents, that they endure sitting there, having to hear about and see the autopsy of their children. I'm crying for them....and send out so much love to every single person affected by this evil act.

The anger they feel is palpable and I lost my daughter almost 5 yrs ago 11-24-2017. I feel that the anger would consume me and it’s so heavy. God bless these families

He's amazing. How he speaks for the victims & their families even through discomfort & the pain. His strength & knowledge is such a blessing. When your beloved child die like that, there is no words in this world can describe the pain in your heart.

This Dr's eyes show so much compassion, and sadness yet is able to remain professional and neutral like expert witnesses are supposed to.

I can’t even begin to imagine how hard it was for the families to sit through this trial.

I wish the cameras wouldn’t focus so long on the parents. They’re doing this for their reactions. It kind of disgusts me to be honest. They’re going through this unimaginable torment yet the news is determined to constantly film their grief. Shame on them!

He should be forced to have to look up and see and also hear everything that is being said or recording of that day. He should have to look at every face he destroyed and murdered that day.

His professional demeanor is required for legal specifics. He did an amazing job and internalized his emotions, which must have been extremely challenging. Respect to him and the victims' families. I am truly sorry.

I can’t imagine being one of these parents. Knowing your child was scared out of their mind and tried to prevent being shot! Knowing the fear they were in in their last moments of life…..sickening. This just made me weep for these parents.

Dr. Marlon Osbourne Pathologist did an excellent job explaining the wounds that caused the deaths of these unfortunate young people. He does this for a living and has many years of experience in this field. It is certainly very brutal for the parents of the deceased people to hear, but they do not have to remain there, they can step out, if it is too much. It is necessary to understand, precisely how each person died, so that if there will be no doubt as to why the Death Penalty has been imposed, if it has been imposed. After listening to this gruesome testimony, there will be no doubt that the Death Penalty does fit this heinous crime committed by Nikolas Cruz.

The pain for the families to hear their loved one as being presented by a letter and a number and all the horrific details of their suffering… it’s unimaginable and I can only pray for whatever peace they can find in life from here on out 🙏🏻❤️

When those parents break out in tears, I too become tearful. I worked as a psychotherapist for over 35 years. I do not believe I could listen to those parents pain, and not cry along with them. My heart goes out to each and every one of them. I wanted to volunteer my time when I heard of the shooting to the families. Unfortunately, I was unable to go to the hotel, since I had eaten at a restaurant that day, and had a serious case of food poisoning, and could not function that evening. There is no greater pain than a parent losing their child.

Imagine holding yourself together and professionally enough, to describe each childs wounds. In front of the parents. My mind is blown. I can't even imagine being strong headed enough to be in that line of work. Peace and Love.

As a father of a 15yr old girl I could feel every emotion of the parents in that court room... I say leave him alone in a room with the parents & let justice be served!!! I wish these parents are able to find peace/closure someday & may all of their children's souls rest in paradise 🌅

As a mother of 4 daughters & 1 son 5 grandchildren I cannot express my deepest sympathy for all the families my heart breaks for you. I am so so sorry. God bless all the victims of this horrible tragedy.

Can you imagine how these parents feel 1st to have lost their children 2nd the way they lost them 3rd then to have to hear their children become evidence an exhibit number 202B no parent should have to go through any part of this. I don't think there is a word to truly describe/capture how they must feel. Then to be the parent of someone who commits this type of violence can't be easy either. My heart goes out to everyone that has been affected by his actions.
