PARIS Bed Bug Panic: Should you still travel to Paris?

I'm in Paris right now, I've been checking seats before sitting on them, and when I get back to my place, I take off all my clothes and do a thorough check inside and out. So far, I haven't had any issues. I'll do one final check when I return home after my trip before I bring anything in the house. I'm not gonna let this ruin my trip but I also don't want to get too comfortable and end up bringing them home.

Great sensible vlog about the issue of bed bugs. I always check every thing, but do love the tip about the luggage in the bath. When transiting through any city, I always have one set of clothes in my personal item bag, never unpack the rest of my luggage and that set I use gets bagged into a zip lock then straight into a hot wash as soon as possible.. anything taken on a trip is then washed even if it's clean we never put anything straight back into our property on return. This has always served us well. Suitcases are wiped out with an antibacterial before storing. A good steam doesn't hurt them either. Looking forward to coming to Paris again soon.❤

Unfortunately I had a bed bug infestation several years ago, in my brand new house which was spotlessly clean. Just to clarify for those who said in the comment section that this is “fake news”or that you never “saw them” in Paris or that this is a “ hype”.... Generally you cannot “ see” bed bugs: ( unless it’s a severe case) because they usually only come out at night whilst you are sleeping & baby bed bugs are tiny and almost transparent. They reproduce extremely rapidly, so the sooner you get rid of them, the better. You absolutely must warn your neighbours immediately about the problem, as the bugs can travel along electrical wires inside the building. ... and definitely get an expert to solve the problem. Home made remedies are not advisable. I hired professionals to fumigate the house, and thankfully, they were gone. It was a terrible experience and I hope this advice helps. Please be careful if you are travelling and beware of public laundromats as well. Professional dry cleaners are a better solution when you are abroad.

This is so blown out of proportion. I'm a flight attendant and have always had to watch out for bed bugs.

When the bed bugs are eating me they like a glass of Côté de Rhone and a cigarette afterwards.

bed bug infestation is a very real issue. unless you're super rich, those bed bugs will find their way to you (that's a guarantee), and it'll cost you time and money to get rid of them. bedbugs can spread anywhere, not just paris. in singapore, about 20 years ago, there's a similar outbreak. it got so bad, the entire chinatown (a place in singapore) was talking about it. and the most affected transport system was buses (because of all the upholsteries they use in buses). i had witnessed it personally myself, it can get pretty bad on some of those buses. although it didn't get nation wide attention, those bus companies were quick to disinfect and clean out their buses. for a long time, i had to travel around standing up. new york city had a similar problem too, many many many years ago. bed bug infestation is major source of headache, i hope they can develop some kind of pesticide to effectively kill off these creepy crawlies.

In Paris right now, and just saw a bug about half an hour ago 3:35 am Paris time 😳 Will inform the owner of the place we are staying tomorrow morning P.S. They two accommodation I previously booked got cancelled due to bedbug infestation too 😳

Paris used to be a clean city. My friend and his wife came back from Paris. They came back with back bed bug bites. They stayed in a 5-star hotel, and OMG, bed bugs are very nasty in Paris.

They are everywhere! I nearly got pickpocketed by one on the M1 line!

I’m heading to Paris in May and I’m sure they will have implemented a plan to deal with them before that. But I will definitely be on the look out when I get there.

The way I keep hearing about bed bugs situation in Paris in the news. Is that there is bed bugs everywhere and anywhere in Paris.

The worrying thing is, MTV has their European awards in November, Rugby world cup is in Paris, multiple people from multiple locations, a sure fire way to spread bed bugs internationally 🤷

I think the bed bugs issue is indeed not worse than other places. Why the massive media reaction to this but only about France? My theory is that the decline of the city and the French nation was just becoming too obvious to the millions of visitors. They then in turn adjusted their voting back home and hence, the tourism to Paris needed to be curbed by the powers that be. See the trend of Asian youtubers making videos about the situation in Paris or the fact that the Japanese embassy has an emergency hotline because so many Japanese people freaked out about the societal situation in Paris....

People should definitely not travel to Paris in June or July--- then maybe I won't have to make diner reservations every night a week ahead... 😉

I haven’t traveled over seas . I live in low income housing there are bed bugs in the corner of my bedroom, I ripped the carpet up and next to the wood tack I’m going to pull out with the hammer . I’m disgusted 🤢. I’m not paying 1,000 for a heater . This is not a Hotel. 🏨 I’m so sorry for Paris . The situation in NC USA 🇺🇸

Jesus Christ, just bought a tickets to Paris last week...

Due to visit in May but this will not deter, will monitor as we get closer.
