I've loved this place since I was a young American student in Paris for a Semester in 1980. I come back nearly every time I visit Paris. Last time 2 years ago, seeing Gertrude Stein & Alice B Toklas' grave was moving as well as the underground crypt spot of Maria Callas. Also this new Jim Morrison stone. It used to be a very simple block of stone that always was covered in liquor bottles and candles.

There’s a glass case around Oscar Wilde’s grave now. The last time I went to Père Lachaise, it was covered up and undergoing cleaning. It had so much damage over the years from people kissing it.

Just for information, Frederic Chopin's body is buried in Père Lachaise Cemetery, but his heart has been buried in Warsaw

Been to Piaf's, Morrison's, Chopin's, Melies' & Modigliani's in that place. Gotta go back.

My future third trip to Paris should finally be my chance to visit the cemetery, notably to see Morrison's grave...hope that third time will be the charm!! :)

confusing thing around Jim Morrison's stone: Rick and others are behind barrier gates, yet there are items actually on the gravestone.. can ppl get right up there or not?

well.... i consulted an online guide before going there and it said "just climb over the fence, no one will be there to stop you". So I obliged, and many others followed suit :P Left a cigarette for him on the grave

why does anyone leave anything at a grave KNOWING its trashed by the maintenance men? and after their days work...THEY CAN take those $$$ flowers home
