A former village located outside Paris, Belleville - Ménilmontant is a popular neighborhood sitting on the highest hill in the French capital.
In spite of inescapable gentrification, 2021 Belleville remains as lively, diverse and welcoming as its reputation claims it to be.

My neck of the woods. And so much to see here! Then again, all of Paris is fascinating and the city is so small, for an international capital, that it's a great place for people like me who love walking 😁

That's where I currently live 😜 Will be visiting TEP Ménilmontant this afternoon. I've walked past that place so many times but this will be the first time I enter. I was thinking this could be the end of one of my walks. Should be perfect for the one starting by Porte des lilas and going through Saint Fargeau. Anyway, looking forward to watching more of your videos.

Very enjoyable and insightful video. I lived in many different neighborhoods in Paris from 1980 to 1985 and remember Belleville fondly. You do the neighborhood justice! You should do videos focused more specifically on the Commune in the coming weeks.

Thanks so much for this fascinating tour. It turns out - thanks to you - that My favourite parts of Paris are the areas with the rich recent multicultural history of the waves of refugees during the 20th century. I'm interested in the less Bourgeois parts of town (but I guess gentrification eventually devours the districts with the most heart). I wish I was there now to help celebrate the Communard anniversary. Each trip to Paris I visit The Communards' Wall in Père Lachaise. The last time I was in Paris I rented an apartment in the 19th in Rue de Meaux. Next time, I'll contact you and hopefully do a walking tour of Belleville/Menilmontant/Charonne. I assume you've heard the story of Ho Chi Minh being asked how he thought the French revolution had turned out - He replied "Oh, it's too soon to tell."

Bonjour Mike. Happy to hear from someone interested in "authentic Paris" :-) So much of this city's history focuses on the lives and achievements of the Parisian upper crust! Easy to oohh and ahhh at glorious architecture or the Seine river. Harder to do when you have to scratch below the surface to dig out untold stories in lesser-known corners of the French capital.
