it's kindof obsolete but some bands still march bells . and there are marching marimbas, too. but they're basically just single-double octave marimbas.
this is a very legit cadence for a high school line. the keyboards killed it and the snares had some pretty sick visuals. sure, the snares may not have had the hardest book to play, but that is what the actual judging book is for. the cadence is just a time to have fun and preform something that will catch the audience's eye. thats why all the visuals are in there.
oh that's my boy there with the shaved head - left over from Alex. A fabulous cadence, a great band - what a wild ride we took for 6 yrs. Bristol was a killer p-rade, though. So darn long and hotter than H. But, it got us to NYC... Go PCMB!! The best in MN, whether they are warming up and charming the gawkers or lighting up the streets in competition. love m
high school is generally the first introduction for matching. middle school is usually concert music were one person is playing the snare. i would expect SOME high school kids to play dirty we have to start somewhere.
In my oppinion, marching mallets takes away from the overall point of a "drumline" cadence. It takes the drums back to the backround or "backup" to the mallets, wich has the melody. Save mallets for the Front ensamble. Besides, It's very podunk.
Yeah, the bell players in this are pretty hardcore, but if you ask me their place is on the sideline, and that's where they shine, and they kinda make the rest of the line have to play quieter unless they have some wicked wrist/forearm strength. lol.
@KonguAwesome bells are heavy? i always would think tenors weigh more. the funny thing is, i'm the smallest and weakest person my school's marching band's percussion section. haha.
full shells weigh about 48 lbs, at least our pearls do. these are half shells, so i'm guessing somewhere in the 25-30 lb range? anyone who marches half shells, correct me if i'm wrong..
matched grip can look good on snares. we use matched grip cuz it looks and sounds cleaner. and we've won best drumline in all our competitions so that proves that it doesn't always look like shit
man u wana see a good drumline type in mchs drumline but it is from 03 we've changed alot of things but there r still good. imma try to put the recent one on there ill post wen i do
@KonguAwesome my school's bells are Musser. i dont know what brand our quads our. by the way if you mean marching concert style ones, do you mean the horizontal? by marching style do you mean vertical ones?
@KonguAwesome whoa. my school's quads are only about 40 some. what kind of bells do you have? horizontal (like in this vid) or vertical? my school has the horizontal.
Not necessarily. Most contemporary d-lines use flat marching snares making the matched grip perfect. The tradional grip is better used for the "old school" tilt we still see in some concert, jazz and marching bands.( i.e Ohio State's Univ's d-line. ) Overall, whichever grip is used works fine, if the d-line is in sync. I play all types of music and switch as needed and for fun. Don't paint yourself in a corner. Step out of the box and diversify if you want to be complete musician. PEACE
the santa clara vanguard did it in 2005, and i thought it looked pretty bad. i doubt you were better looking or cleaner than them. but thats my opinion
Sick cadance, it soundss fun! and thats what matters i disagree with everypne else it doesnt matter how complex the music is, as long as your having fun :D
@WestlyNeverDies yea i understand, readin my comment again i came off kinda harsh lol....i was just sayin that gettin punished for it would be kinda dumb, but the fact that he got to that point without it being zipped (or buttoned, or velcroed) is kinda weird and suspect
To anyone dissing marching mallet instruments, look up "1980 27th Lancers" or "1980 Santa Clara Vanguard" or "1978 Phantom Regiment" or "1978 Santa Clara Vanguard." :D
@KonguAwesome haha i can pick my school's bells up one handed. my school's bells weigh 20lb. i think bells are underrated. there's not many videos on youtube of them. atleast compared to other instruments.
I gotta agree when the snares were pressing the beads into the heads at the begging they looked like they had rods in their arms, drumming is about as fun as it gets guys, just relax a bit.
Bristol, RI oldest 4th of July parade route in the US nice drumline and yeah "palthis" too think thy should tilt their drums a little for traditional grip (their drus r high on that harness btw...-.-) i'd rather hear a drumline without bells...
Oh crap, that was my brothers file. Any way now that it is clarified no hard feelings so restrain your insults to a minimum or this is likely to go on forever. ps. I AM NOT YO DAMN BROTHER!!!!!!
