I have the 440 and used to have the x terra 305. Sometimes when I find a target, then I use my pinpoint (on the detector) and it beeps anywhere I put it down, which obviously confuses where the target is when I don't realise this is happening. When I do realise sometimes I turn it off and on and it seems to sort it out. Can you advise how to get round this?
@TreasureOutdoors
@TreasureOutdoors 3 года назад
Not entirely sure to be honest... I haven't had much luck with the pin point button on my vanquish. Here's a tip that I do use now that really helps me to not have to use the pinpoint button if you are interested... What I really like to do is keep swinging over the signal while pulling the coil back away from the target until it stops reading and then you know the target is right in front of your coil when it stops detecting it. Apologies if that didn't help, I haven't used the pin point mode a whole lot, I do what I just explained almost every single target and have pretty good luck with it being spot on. Wish you luck out there! 👍
@adventuresofascotsman9090
@adventuresofascotsman9090 3 года назад
@@TreasureOutdoors Thanks buddy, I had it explained to me in a forum, it's long but if you're interested...... It sounds like you are not pinpointing correctly, The user manual is not very clear if you have no experience with metal detectors, here's what it says "Holding the coil away from the approximate target location, press and hold the Pinpoint button to enable Pinpoint" It sounds like you can hold the coil anywhere & hit pinpoint so long as its not over the target, YOU CANNOT DO THAT, When you hit pinpoint the machine turns off all discrimination & switches to none motion, It also sets a threshold or starting point of zero signal, If you raise the coil away from the ground then press pinpoint & move the coil back to the ground the ground will cause the machine to think there is a target under the coil even if there are no targets & the machine will make a tone everywhere on the ground To pinpoint find a target, move the coil to one side a little keeping the coil parallel & the same distance from the ground as you sweep when detecting, How far away from the target you need to move the coil before hitting pinpoint depends on target depth & size & how much other trash there is near the target, Getting it right comes with practice, Vanquish & Nox have Ratchet pinpointing or resizing whatever they call it, It means that each time you pass the coil over a target in pinpoint mode the sensitivity of the machine ratchets down a notch to help you home in on the target, Ratchet pinpointing can confuse some people that are not used to it, they lose the target & have to turn pinpoint off, pull to one side & start again, If there's junk near your wanted target & you move the coil over the junk the machine will ratchet down over the junk, If the junk is a bigger signal than your wanted target you can lose the wanted target, If you move the coil to one side & its over junk before you hit pinpoint it will set a threshold on the junk if the junk is a bigger signal your wanted target will be lost or reduced & you can end up pinpointing the junk, pinpointing in clean ground with only a few targets every sweep is MUCH easier than pinpointing in trash filled ground, In trashy sites you can raise the coil up to narrow the wedge of detection with DD coils or move around the target to see if that gives you a better look at the target, It all comes with practice & digging, On my old machines I could turn ratchet pinpointing on/off I hope I have cleared up any confusion with your pinpointing, good luck

Hey bud, The other day my son and I went to the park but we honestly couldn’t find anything cause the vanquish was going off every step that we took and honestly it was just discouraging. I hate to bother you with a dumb question but as I said before I’m really new to all this. You had mentioned in this video to lower your sensitivity and I thought of doing that but was worried if I lowered it that I would not be able to detect coins etc. If you have the time can you please let me know how the sensitivity affects detecting coins over other sounds.
@TreasureOutdoors
@TreasureOutdoors 3 года назад
No question is a dumb question especially when you are new to the hobby! To be honest if you are park hunting and looking for more recent drops you can lower your sensitivity to almost the minimum without having to worry about losing much performance. Usually coins are big enough in size that even at the lowest sensitivity you'll be able to find them within the first couple inches and those are the ones you are going to want to focus on at first.... the quick and easy ones close to the surface. So when you lower your sensitivity you don't go as deep and the detector won't pick up as many small objects like the small aluminum foil around the park. If you want to only look for coins at first I would try to go and look around for some numbers around 29-30 which is usually a quarter and 24-25 is in most cases a dime or a copper penny. It DEFINITELY can be overwhelming when there are lots of targets around... Also I was curious do you have a pinpointer? definitely makes the job WAY easier! One more thing if you are still reading.. the vanquish has a few different modes coin, jewelry, relic & custom if you go to coin mode it will eliminate the lower numbers which are usually aluminum foil to quiet the machine down when you are swinging. You can also use custom mode to really eliminate any numbers you want so if you are swinging around and there are lots of a certain set of numbers you can notch them out and you won't hear them when you swing over them. But if this was too long and confusing, don't worry! Just get out there and give it another go... once you find that first quarter you'll be hooked! 🤣 another tip is try going to another spot that doesn't have as many targets around.. where there are too many beeps it can be confusing, hard to know what to dig! Just stay optimistic, once you get the hang of it you'll be pulling crusty pennies left right and center! lol! good luck out there man!

@@TreasureOutdoors First off thank you so much for taking the time to reply with such details. It shows the type of person you are and we are truly grateful for your help. I had my settings I believe full sensitivity or maybe one notch back but we are definitely going to try it at it’s lowest setting until we figure out exactly the right settings. I just bought a pinpointer the other day. It’s called a GP Pointer, it’s not a top brand but honestly it seems to work really well (home test) so maybe I just got lucky with a well built one. As we get better at MD we will expand and get better stuff but for now it perfect. I believe you are located in Florida and we are from Toronto so the numbers on the vanquish may be a little different but I completely understand and appreciate you providing some great examples. It’s starting to cool down here now so I figured it might be a good time to hit the beach as there will be less people and hopefully we find some stuff as well we live right beside a army base and I know they tore down the houses the troops use to live in roughly 30yrs ago and turned it into a park. So I these 2 things will be really good to look at. I have the 340 so it doesn’t come with as many options but it does come with a few so I will definitely try using them. I honestly just had it set on all medal mode figuring it would give us the best chances at finding something but I actually think it may have made it harder. Sorry this is so long but you took so much time to respond that I figured I would share some insight on our future outings. Also on a side note my son is 10 and he can’t believe that you responded to us. I think cause he sees your channel he thinks your famous and it’s kind of funny. He’s been telling all his friends. He wants to start a channel like yours. I laughed and told him let’s just figure how to MD first. Anyway enough wasting your time, I just wanted to let you know we appreciate your help and you will have a follower for as long as you keep your channel going. I wish you all the best my friend Cheers

Would you suggest the 440 or the simplex?
@TreasureOutdoors
@TreasureOutdoors 3 года назад
They are both great machines... I would say if you are planning to go to the beach often go with the vanquish because it does a lot better there, otherwise the simplex is built like a tank and I would recommend it.... if you end up getting the simplex look into the SP24 coil it is my favorite I use it most often.

@@TreasureOutdoors I ordered a Vanquish 340 to hunt some old gardens for silver. I`ve only had Bounty Hunter detectors and a top of the line ancient Whites back in the 1970s. I found an 18K ring with it and silver coins back then though. One day in 1996 using the best Bounty Hunter they had then I found a gold earring, gold rim glasses, and two very heavy 14K men`s rings and a smaller 14K 1/4 carat diamond ring in under 45 minutes plus a lot of coins and several watches on a freshwater beach. I found a lot of various rings with it. My biggest score happened when I took a trip way down the lake to a big camping area with a swimming hole. As soon as I got there I saw little flags in the ground and holes everywhere in the swimming area, which was exposed because they lowered Toledo Bend Lake to work on the dam. Somebody had beat me to it. I hunted anyway and found a few coins and a silver ring. I decided to rest and went up the hill to a table and the guy detecting before me had left a big dirty pile of gold jewelry on the table. Needless to say I quickly exited the area with the large handful of loot. It only had a 7 inch coil but did have threshold all metal mode and manual ground balance and was very sensitive to tiny objects. It could detect a number 6 lead shot at two inches when set properly or very thin and small wire bream hooks. I had it with me one day and dropped my only hook in tall grass and it gave a strong signal, but it was still very difficult to see it.

what do the numbers mean when you detect something
@laurikraft399
@laurikraft399 Год назад
and the sounds like the lower tones
@TreasureOutdoors
@TreasureOutdoors Год назад
In general it kind of gives you an idea of the conductivity & sometimes shape of an item under the ground. A general rule of thumb in metal detecting is silver usually reads up "high" while gold most of the time falls more towards the lower numbers & sounds.
