When is an Aire not an Aire? Can you just park up anywhere? How do campsites differ? These are all questions European travellers ask themselves when looking for somewhere to camp for the night. In this video we look at the range of options open to the campervan and motorhome traveller and offer you our thoughts and experience of each type of accommodation.
After owning our VW campervan for over 5 years, we have just returned from our latest 5 week European roadtrip around Spain and France and we want to share with you our first hand experience of where we stayed.
We are Richard and Jackie and we live in the UK. Our plans for early requirement include relocating to the Yorkshire Dales, developing our forever home and travelling the UK, Europe and eventually the world in our VW campervan Nelson.
Please subscribe and like our videos if you like what you see.
Check out our blog earlyretirement...
Many thanks,
Richard & Jackie

Thank you for this information as looking at traveling out of season we will have to rely on the park4night in Germany but hope to stay at a site like yourselves in the Alps.

We also use the search for sites App which is about £7 a year but we find it useful. A lot of the European sites close for the winter months - we use google maps to see what campsites are in an area we want to visit and then check their websites to see when they are open. I think there is a site just outside of Chamonix that stays open.

A really comprehensive run down of the different places we (van/motorhomers) can find if we spend a few minutes looking at 2-3 apps. Thanks

That’s really informative my partner (semi retired )really wants to do that . I was brought up been dragged around mostly France in a caravan every year so not so much a novelty more horror at the time yet a seen so much more because of it . I travel (with friends) around Europe on my motorcycle and B&B but can see the appeal van camping. Maybe in a couple of years . Love the channel 👍

Very informative, thank you. We have plenty of experience with tents and caravanning, but new to campervanning, which it turns out is more different than you might first think. Have just booked the ferry for two weeks in Brittany later this year. Thanks again.

Thanks for the comment Ray. You will love Brittany! We would absolutely recommend dropping into Dinnan. There is a great field they open up as a free Aire under the viaduct which is only a short walk to the historic and beautiful walled city. It just blew us away! Happy travels!

Very informative and current for us Aussies wanting to campervan Europe and Scandi 2024. As early retirees We have lived now for 13yrs in our Landy/camper in Australia and it sounds very similar. 👍

Hi all, many thanks for the lovely comment- so good to hear from people around the world. 13 years- wow- we have a lot to learn! You will love Europe- there is pretty much something for everyone's tastes. We are also thinking about Scandinavia in 2024, but we are restricted by our Schengen 90 day rule so we are just trying to work out how to do the trip justice as we want to get up into the arctic circle and the Lofoten Islands which is a long way from the Yorkshire Dales! Good luck with the plans. R PS Also very jealous of your Landy!

Hi both loving watching your vlogs. A question (now that you've just returned from France) what amount of money do you budget for each day? 🤔

Thankyou, we really loved following the coast up with so many amazing places to share with people. We worked quite hard to keep to a budget of €140 a week for all food, clothes washing, cafe stops and a rose wine or 2!! Because we want to travel so much over the next few years we had to really have the frame of mind that we are experiencing lovely places and we don’t need to eat out as we might if we were on holiday. Just a couple of other costs - campsites/ aires totalled around £450 for the 5 week trip. mainly cheap as we were out of season and used ACSI card and we spent £325 on petrol. We are going to do a proper cost Vlog in the next few weeks 🚐
