Everyone you see, except for the Ranger, is a volunteer, having paid for or made their uniform or "kit," their weapons, their horses . . . They deserve our thanks for putting on a great demonstration.
Here's what you see taking place:
At the beginning, women and children who have evacuated their homes along the Bay Road in anticipation of the King’s Troops returning from Concord on their way back to Boston along the same road, are fleeing to get out of harm’s way, taking a few essentials with them. (Thanks to Ruth Hodges for this note.)
-53:15 (about 10 minutes in): Phil, an NPS Ranger who is pictured in the thumbnail, explaining today’s re-enactment of Parker’s Revenge at Minute Man National Historical Park.
-19:00: One of the men portraying a British soldier tells the story of how he became interested in reenacting when he was 13 years old.
16:20: Explaining how a musket is loaded and is fired.
13:30: A short conversation with Elizabeth Sulock, who brought two of the youngest reenactors there today. Elizabeth also creates great reenactments and other public history programs for the Newport Historical Society and she writes about creating authentic 18th century clothing on Instagram @Sew18thCentury. (I'm embarrassed that I referred in the video to the garments as costumes. Sorry, Elizabeth.)
11:00: Musicians portraying a fifer and two drummers answer questions about their uniform and their role on the battlefield.
