Obviously they didn't put the dress on the cover, so you'd have to actually buy the magazine to see how cool it is. The old "Don't give them what they want until they pay for it" strategy.
You know what I just realize, the fact that a town named "Ponyville" in a world or country that's mostly populated by ponies is like living in a place called "Humantown" or "Manvillage"
You make it sound like a big deal, but it would only take about a minute if you grab a small portion out of a freshly opened pack and count them ten at a time by thumbing the corners.
As a fellow fashion designer they didn't really explain raritys aversion in the episode well but basically there are two main routes you can take. Haute coture and fast fashion. Your sin that she could do both isn't really accurate because the speed at which fast fashion moves and dominates the fashion scene can really impact how your more personal designs sell and contribute to wastage and poor labor standards. Rarity not wanting to participate in fast fashion is nothing but a credit to her character
Plus Rarity has always been about Haute Couture. Nothing about her character would suggest she'd even remotely go for a fast fashion route. She's always been adamant about not just making each dress unique and different, but about doing it herself. This was even called out on by Applejack in S1
I think the reason rarity didn't want to keep making the same dress makes her character so much more fleshed out, she's an artist after all, and artists see the problems with the same thing done over and over
The reason behind these "flawed designs" is actually explained later on. Rarity says that as much as her fashion line suffered, so did the princess dress, as since she had to create it over and over she started paying less and less attention to detail :D happens sometimes with fast-fashion and clothes in high demand. Take the chest-binder brand GC2B for example. Initially, their binders were high quality and considered safe. But lately, they have been recieved with loose seams, un-sewed sections and have been deemed unsafe as they cause pain when worn under 8 hours. (Binders arent meant to do that).)
What reaaaally pushes the boundaries for me about Rarity’s boutiques is that she makes EVERY SINGLE GARMENT herself, and for three whole shops in the later seasons! Do you know how friggin long it takes to design, make the patterns, cut the fabrics, sew and finish ONE simple garment, let alone a fancy couture dress with details and draping and beading and embroidering? Way too frigging long to fill A shop and keep it stocked and up to current trends, to say nothing of THREE (even if you weren’t also busy frequently saving a nation and hanging out with friends) ALL BY YOURSELF. Fashion designers IRL rarely even sew samples themselves, they draw their designs and pass them to pattern makers, who then pass them to seamstresses to turn into samples and so on. And btw, real design drawings aren’t those pretty fantasies with really skinny ladies with fetching watercolor strokes implicating how the chiffon blows in the breeze. They are very precisely drawn, black lines on white, with no human figure in them, showing exactly where every single seam, stitching, button and shape is in exact, measurable scale. Any other kind would be useless. Anyway, I digress. My point is, in a show with dragons and magic and pastel ponies with weapons made of friendship juice, THAT is the one thing that irks me in it’s sheer scale of NO WAY THAT WOULD EVER WORK. That being said, Rarity is best pony and I love her works.
@@haylinpm8973 Yeah, magic. Sure. But from what I’ve seen in the show, Rarity’s magic doesn’t do much more than very sophisticated telekinesis and such. She certainly doesn’t just poof the clothes into existence. Don’t get me wrong, TK would be MASSIVELY useful when creating outfits and would certainly speed things up. BUT. Consider that magic wouldn’t speed up the designing part, which takes A LOT of time and research all by itself, especially when the stores seem to have everything from high end couture to business attire to street fashion, including accessories, for both females AND males. I would argue that alone would be too much work for one person. And that is not even taking into account clothes have to be made in different sizes, meaning you have to create several patterns of the same garment. Pattern making is it’s own occupation, BECAUSE it’s so time consuming and technical. And then there is the whole process of making the garments, and that is a whole slew of jobs that need to happen before the boutiques are stocked. So yeah, Rarity has magic, but we have computers and programs and machines that speed up the work WAY more than telekinesis would. And even in the human world, it would take a couple of designers and pattern makers, a small factory of seamstresses and a well staffed couture studio to make all the stuff in her stores.
@@undertasty Woah thank you for replying even after making the original comment almost 2 years ago and yeah, the amount of designing and sewing and everything else Rarity has to do for 3 boutiques is insane. No idea how she does it, it would be impossible for any present designer that we have today. I definitely admire but don't envy her
@@haylinpm8973 Haha, to be honest I had forgotten all about this comment. But I read it after you brought my attention back to it, and I found my opinion had not changed. Anyways, I guess my point is, do not underestimate the work that goes into making garments :)
3:08-3:15 How is Rarity complaining about her artistic vision being ruined implying she's too good to work for a living? 3:48-4:06 Rarity probably knows that an assembly line style of dress making would be highly ineffective. Dresses can't be assembled in stages like a car or plane, and who's going to man the assembly lines to sew the dresses? 5:49-5:52 Well that and she has a British accent.
That and for the reasons many small businesses like keeping to small locations, it's a personal enjoyment for them and a cathartic hobby and job, not everything has to be streamlined, sometimes you lose profits by streamlining too much
How does Rarity wanting to hoof stitch each dress herself, and make every single dress a unique one rather than all the same, make her a one dimensional character? She literally throughout the series is adamant about making every dress unique and beautiful, and doing it herself. That's why she's against the assembly line. She has two songs about it too. Art Of The Dress in S1 and Rules Of Rarity in this episode..
Either it's an outtake that somehow snuck its way into the episode, the animators and writers wanted to mess with us or it's a reference to the Creepypasta Cupcakes
I watched this episode who knows how many times, and only after you pointed it out did I notice the later dresses were flawed, That's such a great little bg detail! You've got quite the eagle eye there, Littleshy.
Let me just say that I love this episode as it touches on a real world thing about how when things become more readily available they become less valuable. It used to be that owning a Tesla was a huge flex, but now there are so many Tesla owners it’s just a flex. Goes to show that the more people have something the less luxurious they become
0:38 I’m pretty sure that twilight is the only one with her kind of magic where she can do so much and every other unicorn has more basic magic that is Taylor we to whatever their cutie mark purpose thing is. One example is on multiple occasions where rarity had trouble moving a boulder that Twilight would have been able to move with less effort.
@@Cantersoft I just did a quick research, and her canon name in Incidental Pony. Whoa Nelly is her fanon name. According to MLP Wiki transcripts, Applejack says "Whoa Nelly" in four Season 1 episodes and in one Season 2 episode.
An outstanding and marvelous vid as always Littleshy i love it, Canterlot Boutique is one of my favorite season 5 episodes, although i always thought the obese mare at the end was a bit of a freak show.
Before you guys ask why this comment was made 2 days ago, it’s not because I’m a timelord (I’m not a timelord), but it’s because the video is released as unlisted a few days before it’s scheduled release for the hardcore fans
3:34 I like that you used real-life paper to make a comparison to what the show's 100 sheets look like! You're basically doing what CinemaSins never could do. Research.
To be fair about sin 32, part of Rarity's established chracter is someone who creates art, and tries to bring out the best in indiividuals by matching them with equally unique creations. While a mass-produced, one-size-fits-all design would undoubtedly be very profitable, it would also go against her design ethos. If anything she's showing integrity to her core principles rather than them selling out for maximum profit. That said, she could still licence the design to a third party manufacturer, unfortunately, there doesn't seem to be that degree of economic specialisation in Equestria.
I mean the way that Rarity ran her business was similar to the way a normal high fashion company, although that normally there would be other products from the collection that were less expensive and more readily available
Idk if you have noticed because the flaw I am saying is not in 'This' video, its in the real episode After Rarity understood what she really wanted to do she starts singing a song. In that song you can see a pony (the pony is sea swirl) blankly starring and smilling at a mannequin. Please notice me :,)
The problem I had watching this episode is that sassy saddles looks almost EXACTLY like my childhood OC. Only difference is she was an alicorn, and her hair was fire (she was a total Mary Sue)
After hilariously experiencing sticker shock, it appears you can stick a pin in Sea Swirl's dream of owning the only dress that Rarity felt the need to put a tag on.
*after adverts* IT'S ALIPONE! Ash: ...it's a what? Dexter: Alipone, the Royal Pony pokémon. The fully evolved version of Pone and Unipone or Pegapone, the version that Alipone evolves from determines if it will be stronger physically or not. This also determines if it's wings or horn will be bigger, as well as what colours it may be Ash: ...WHY THE FUCK DON'T WE REALLY HAVE MORE COOL POKEMON LIKE THAT!? Me: shush you...
The fact that “TLC” is not on spotify (and was never created as its own separate soundtrack) pisses me off. I can sing “At the Gala” and freaking songs from Equestria Girls Everfree crap but NOT THIS SONG WHICH IS SO GOOD LIKE WTH I AM MAD
rarity: 1...hundred more princess dresses... sassy sadles: just fooled her by giving her 10000 more orders ** eventhough there's less than a thousand ponies in equestria...**
