Thanks for the video, I have been taking mine an hour away to the avian vet to get my babies nails trimmed and it’s been crazy expensive. I tried trimming them before but I worried about trimming too much and they did not like being restrained at all (My vet tried showing me how to hold them to trim and I do it the way he showed me, but it seems so stressful on them) or the nail clippers and I couldn’t handle seeing them stressed out. I usually cave and won’t force them and then I make that hour long drive lol. The way you did it seems so much less stressful for everyone!

Perfect timing! I want to trim our pineapple green cheeks nails for the first time at home. We took him to his avian vet for his first trimming and the vet literally cut every nail so short they were all bleeding and bruised and he couldn’t stand on them for long it was heartbreaking. We already trim our dog and cats nails so I’m not too nervous but this is extremely helpful!!! It seems so much less stressful then holding them still :) Thank you!!!

Thank you so much for this tutorial, I have an older crimson rosella and trimming his nails was always a nightmare for him, since he does not like to be touched. I have been able to train him in just 3 days using your method and he took the trimming so peacefully. Thanks once more!

Hi Sophie--- This was great!!!! I love your style of training.. Your videos were recomended by David, so I decided to check it out. Way less stress for the bird and for the owner. I tend to get nervous and shake too much and end up nipping the nail. At least I know about the corn starch to stop the bleeding. My dog's vet said to use it. Got a giant container of it after an incident with my dog. I am a new subscriber and now I will start binge watching all of your videos!!!!!!

I used to trim my Rosellas nails like this and it worked like a charm for him. I am trying this with my other birds but it's been difficult. I will keep trying.

I called my vet to ask how much it would cost to get my GCC’s nails clipped. This is what they told me. Before clipping the nails they would have to do a full examination because the trauma of clipping the nails could actually KILL my bird. Price for examination $166.00 and with that the nail clipping would be free the first time. After that it would be $45.00. Goodness me, I just got her in December 2023 and between the new (huge) cage, perches, toys, treats and pellets my little bird is costing me a small fortune. Also, important to know I’m Canadian, so those prices are Canadian currency. Thanks for the video, I’m really working on our bond so I can clip them myself. Lucky for me, she has white nails so I can actually see the little vein inside.

so its me again, the mamma of henry the cockatiel. i wrote you last month. so henry is 10 years old and never been held. once she had someone really scare him by sticking her hand in his cage and trying to grab him, long before me. so i got him on december 23rd, and he transferred himself to his new big cage on december 31st. i started excersises to earn his trust then. before he would hiss at me and get very upset when i put my hand in his cage to do anything. now he will take pumpkin seeds and millet spray from my hand. just recently he started molting and got aggressive and would try to fight his beloved brocilli crown. hes mellowing back out after about a week and a half, but occasionally will peck at me in the middle of going for his treat in my hand. he doesnt hurt me at all. and i dont get upset. i just try to let him know i love him and that he will always be safe with me. i really want him to start being out of his cage, but im worried that i cant let him out if he wont step up, is that correct? im worried that ill never earn his trust fully but i think its just going to take a long time. he has all kinds of toys even one i hand made for him, but he mostly just even trats them as decorations as hes never had toys and doesnt know, what if i let him out of his cage, will he be able to get back in without my help?

What kind of treats do you use? My bird loves being around me and loves interacting with me, and I can touch her feet, but she hates new things and especially clippers. (She probably remembers the vet grabbing her to clip her nails) I'd love to know what kind of treats to use that aren't bad enough for her that I can feed her this many treats in succession?

i have two questions! 1st; where did you get that adorable cockatiel plushie? xD 2nd; what is UP with plushie makers and bird feet? lol i have like _5_ of them, even a couple from the WWF... and they ALL have 3 toes forward... lol

I want to get two male cockatiels, how would I do that? At shops, do they usually keep them separate by gender, ( avoiding possible mating? ) do they keep them together, etc? ( GENERALLY, i know stores can be different . ) Sadly these arent any rescue / adoption centers near me so i have to buy them instead! I want two males because of the risk of mating, and the egg laying, etc. Or two females! I do prefer males as theyre generally more active and sing ( from what ive been told ) is there any way to know before actually buying them? Of course not 100%, but a good idea of it, ?

Hello, I was just wondering why my cockatiels might bite the top of my ear? They will just be relaxing on my shoulder, nibbling at my hair or something and randomly bite the top of my ear. It hurts so much! They are about 3 months old and love being with me they are the ones that choose to be on me. I am becoming scared to have them near my ear and I can't find any info on this online!

My birds are not tamed so the veterinarian will not trim their nails so I have to learn to do you have any suggestions because my cockatiel wants to bite me everytime I try to do it
