Yeah, Battle Coliseum had a solid set of mechanics, unique character choices that actually have sprites and context to help em fit within the game AND the presentation still works to its favor
@@angelriverasantana7755 And it didn’t just stick to fighting games, but went above and beyond to have a true reason to exist separately from KoF; we had stuff like Metal Slug tossed in too.
Something about this game that nobody mentions is that the SFIII characters having a standarized 2-bar meter and access to more than one Super Art opens up interesting posibilities that are rarely explored. The Urien combo at 5:16, for example, is impossible to do in the game he comes from. Or doing Alex's Stun Gun Headbutt into Hyper Bomb.
I liked this game for having dope sfx at least and a fun concept but the roster should have literally been 2x as big considering it was all inhouse conversions to the cvs2 naomi engine.
I actually believe SF6's success might help convincing the higher ups to allow a 2nd fg to walk along. Because they must still be concerned about the failure of MVCI (even if its understandable) and not much open to invest in a different fg. But it looks like any crossover with other franchises is threatened by the fact that all companies are too busy right now and their games arent going down. Its very different from the time of the making of CvS: SF died with Third Strike, other Capcom fg franchises were dead or about to end (like MvC), so there was little work left for the fg devs. And SNK as a whole was about to close, even cancelled Garou MOTW 2, so there was also had little work left for the devs. So if we look the current state of the scene... SNK, Namco's fg devs and Arc Systems are all super busy.
So to me that makes a Capcom crossover the easiest and most viable idea for a new crossover game to walk along with SF in the current age. And Capcom actually has a long history of successful games, even if some are forgotten, that is more than enough to make a big fg roster. If the range of choices is more limited it can still be a big fg roster... and if the range of choice is broader (like open to Megaman, Onimusha, Breath of Fire, Power Stone, etc) the roster can get to the mark of "50" if the devs can afford to do so. PS: I 100% dont believe Darkstalkers or Rival Schools have big chances of being chosen to be that "2nd fg". It would be a crossover, because these games are usually popular with their nostalgia fanservice. Like MvC revived the image of Strider, or CvS the image of Maki, or TvC the image of Batsu, etc.
This game, for its defense, had some cool and unusual character picks, especially for the time. Some of them, like Alex, Urien and Jedah, would find a new lease on life later. Others, like Leo, Kenji and Pyron, haven't sadly been seen since and unlikely to be with how Capcom is currently.
I had always called this game an “intern project that was accidentally released,” but every time I see this game running, it’s like looking into an alternate timeline. The mechanics are solid enough to be passable as a Capcom product, and if you were playing this hot off the heels of CvS2, the backgrounds weren’t THAT weird. I’m sure that if I play this game again, I’ll probably play it for an hour, then grow it back into the shadow realm.
@@_Jay_Maker_ Yeah, it sucks that Eagle end up not getting much respect from the devs. Gen and Birdie also are from SF1 just like him, but the fact of returning to the game in SFA revitalized both chars' image and their reputation to the point that they appeared in the "modern era" of SF... Gen in 4 and Birdie in 5. Meanwhile Eagle is still forgotten and was only remembered for CvS2. If he appeared in SFA (not the late A3 ports) his fate would have been different. To me its very strange how these decisions happen, because in my opinion Eagle is a totally worthy char for SF.
@@mikaela5938 She looks too much like Athena's looks from KoF 97, that is a very famous version, so i would like her to be redesigned if she was to return. To avoid comparisons of a negative tone. But overall i have nothing against her.
I didn't think Capcom Fighting Jam/Evolution was that bad, but this video just proves how broken it is to have the 3rd Strike characters not only keeping their parries, but also having all 3 Super Arts. Did they ever fix the wonky hitboxes on Alex's Boomerang Raid? It seems to be better here and will actually connect full hits instead of whiffing the last grab.
I don't think people realize how SERIOUS that New York stage song is. In fact its so serious, the dude parried the first few parries in the video with the beat LOL!!!
5:49-5:54 My favorite part in this video 😂 Ingrid should return. I like how the characters representing Street Fighter 2 don't have EX moves, Parry, Custom Combos, instead they hit like a truck, as a reference of how matches were in early 90s fighting games, those were quick because the damage was higher back then.
I dont know why everyone shitting on this game, its like a higher quality version of somebody's MUGEN, but I'll never know until I actually play it, I'll follow up when I actually play this...
Imagine a new Capcom vs Capcom game that's actually good(!) & has characters from Power Stone, Rival Schools/Project Justice, & Final Fight 1-3 in the roster.
It hurts my soul knowing this garbage game is almost certainly the last time a Red Earth character is going to be playable in anything. This was a really neat concept, but Capcom barely even tried with this game.
Red Earth was remembered in this game and SvC Chaos. Tragic bad luck for the game and the chars. I also dont believe they will ever return in a future crossover. It's already reached the obscure zone. Chars like Morrigan and Strider had their images saved from obscurity because of their presence in MvC1, a very successful and timeless crossover game, so they became sheltered by the franchise, while their own was already dead since the time of MvC1 and stayed buried. Like if anyone from Red Earth was in MvC2 the char' reputation would be different today. Probably not super strong but better than its actual current reputation anyway.
Considering how Capcom seems to now think that single player content is the way to sell fighting games, Red Earth would be an excellent candidate for a reboot. That would be of course if Capcom stopped being a bunch of risk averse fucks who only think inside the box. SNK liked Red Earth enough to feature Tessa in SvC Chaos and they like to do some unexpected character picks. Leo for next Samurai Shodown would be on brand for them.
this game definitely looks more distinctly “mugen-like” relative to other Capcom crossovers or the era. The sprites just don’t mesh together very well, even if they’re both from the same game.
@@blaire9524speaking of cost I recall when it came out it was priced half of what normal Capcom fighters were. It was a disappointment but I can blow $20-$30 ordering out for pizza, it at least gave me hours of entertainment.
i wish this game was better. i wish we could've gotten a good Capcom allstars game with like mega man and Phoenix Wright and all kinds of other fun characters like that instead of an unpolished mugen with only reused sprites and Ingrid
'Standing here, i realize Youre just like me, trying to make history But whos to judge? When your guards down, i think well both agree Violence breeds violence, but in the end, it has to be this way *parry noises* I forgot the next line, crap, uh...parries are sick :)
@@zacharyjohnson9562Totally was. Akuma could force a checkmate situation on wakeup if he had SAI and opponent in chip kill range. The opponent had no option but parry the fireball, which left them open to demon flip throw. Fireballs weren't quite as useless as often presumed in 3S.
Simply awesome, too bad, it's in the worst Capcom fighting game, ever. Let's just hope, when it's ever time for Capcom to create more than just Resident Evil and Street, we'll get a better Capcom crossover, either a platform fighter or an SNK three person team inspired game.
The only good part of this thing are those beautiful chain combos, is it that hard to include in SF, CAPCOM? is it really that much to ask?, the forced, made-up and pseudo chain combos in street fighter are nothing but a pathetic joke.
