This video helped me get my son's Dodge Ram 2500 4 X 4 repaired quickly after water pump failure .... and put on new belt and even clutch fan... I removed shroud before I did repairs/replacement... since I am a big guy and need arm room... :)

I've replaced many Belts over the years and it wouldn't have occurred to me to "Remove" the Tensioner... I just Bought a 2011 last night and the Belt needs Replacement.. So Glad I found you while looking for a New Belt. Much Appreciation, Thanks.

Your welcome Aubrey. The way that belt is routed behind the tensioner arm makes it a pain to replaced if you dont take the tensioner off. Once you do....it helps alot. Still not the easiest belt job bny any means. Appreciate you finding my video. Make sure to subscribe!

Thank you for this information. My water pump started leaking when I changed the coolant. I guess it did not like being flushed. I would not have known where to start without this video, but I had the pump off in about 1/2 hour. Put a spacer on the lower fan shroud mount also to gain more space to replace the belt while I'm in there. 2009 6.7L

Thanks for the video. I've got an '02 with the 5.9 Cummins. Your video makes this look like a very do-able repair. The belt tensioner tips are handy too!

Glad that the video helped and that it happened while at home which is rare.....usually it will be 1000 miles away from home, at night, in the pouring rain, and on a sunday when everything is closed. Thanks for letting me know how it went and for the kind words as well. Make sure to subscribe!

FYI...threw the belt this morning...bad water pump...so changed that out along with adding a new tensioner. Getting really good at this...heheheh..Nick

Thats pretty much the main causes of belts coming off. The waterpump is the weak link for some reason. Well at least you knew what to do to get to it and replace it. Thanks for the update!

Great video as usual. I have a 2018 ram 3500, 6.7, 320k miles. I run out west in phx. Going to change the hoses due to heater hose ripped 2 days ago. My question is would you recommend changing the water pump at this point with this many miles or if it ain't boke don't fix it approach? I'm thinking I should but not sure.🤔🤔🤔

I have a question on this Mopar purple OAT coolant. Is this coolant actually rated or created for a heavy duty diesel engine? Would I be better off switching to peak final charge OAT coolant. Which is truthfully actually created for a heavy duty diesel engine.
@MotorCityMechanic
@MotorCityMechanic 6 лет назад
If we are speaking of the Ram diesel trucks then the Mopar OAT is recommend and I havent seen any issues with using it. I cant speak of other brands but for the Ram....its what is called for and designed to work with that system. Thanks for the question and for watching. Make sure to subscribe

Yes I am speaking for the 6.7L Cummins turbo diesel. I just purchased a 2017 and I was curious if this engine is better suited using a actual diesel rated coolant? Since so many questions have been put out about this purple Coolant and very few of these questions have ever been answered besides it is a OAT coolant. One thing over my 54 years of experience is it just because the product is recommended don’t mean there are many products out there that are actually better suited. Thanks for your answer keep putting out your great videos.

I guess the way I look at it is that I havent seen any issues related to the coolant causing any failures or other issues that might cause damage to internal parts or eventually cause an overheat condition. Iam sure that there are items on the market that are considered extreme but the question comes up is when is extreme needed. Based coolant operation....lubrication and cooling.....the OAT covers all those and has a longer life span of 10 years/150,000 miles. I know alot of hotshots that drive constantly cross country pulling car equipment trailers and they have had zero issues related to the OAT. I feel that there is no benefit to pay for another version when the benefits wont be noticed or have any affect. You can be for sure that when it comes to Cummins and their warranty......they wouldnt allow anything that would survive the abuse in their engines. The OAT is what they went with and for the most part all of the Chrysler branded vehicles. It also comes down to what we classify as heavy duty diesel. Over the road semi trucks might benefit with the higher end coolant for the medium duty/light duty trucks such as the Ram series dont seen to benefit due to their design and pulling limitations when you compare them to the much larger commerical trucks. If there were issues with overheating when pulling or parts failing due to the make up of the OAT then I would say for sure....switch it out. I just havent seen that issue. Thanks again for watching and for the conversation. Have a great day!

How many miles do you usually want to replace the belt and water pump? I heard every 100k miles is that accurate
@MotorCityMechanic
@MotorCityMechanic 6 лет назад
When it comes to the waterpump.....I dont until its needed. I have 230,000 miles on mine with no issues. The belt....100k is a good interval. Appreciate the question and make sure to subscribe

I have 72870 miles on 6.7 2014 and saw some water on the ground. Checked the engine bay and it seemed to have slung water around some. Some time later saw a small spot under the truck. Topped off the coolant tank about 1/2 gallon and never saw another drip. Going on a trip so I bought a pump and belt. Wasting my time changing the pump at this mileage? Or just take it with me just in case.

Why is Dodge using so many metric fasteners, what happened to SAE?
@MotorCityMechanic
@MotorCityMechanic 6 лет назад
For the most part everyone has moved to metric and Dodge has for a long time now.....its a more precise measurement. In my opinion it makes more sense to standardize things so that we dont have to keep swapping from metric to standard tools and have to keep buying both. Makes no sense to me to have both. The world is metric but we have to have it a different way and go standard (SAE) from the beginning.

man that pump must bin leaking for a while, everything is soaked! or a catastrophic belt failure
@MotorCityMechanic
@MotorCityMechanic 8 лет назад
Hard to say......It certainly should have been making some noise for sure. Once the bearing fails.....coolant leaks and then the belt slides off the pulley. Thanks for checking the video out Kevin. Make sure to subscribe
