Hi Chris. If you've never configured MIDI I/O in pro tools, you won't be able to assign the output the midi tracks to an external controller. I've never used PT first but it's probably the same. Just go to 'Midi Studio' menu and create an instrument. Then and only then you'll be able to route the midi track to your keyboard. You certainly could! If you can import your Yamaha Styles as midi into your DAW, then you could use the same techniques to edit the files.

I don't have the M50 but the first thing that comes to mind....You wanna check and see if there's a filter section where you could actually filter out or uncheck the type of midi events that get sent out. If not, then you could also check your VST host to see if it gives you an option to filter incoming midi messages. Normally you should be able to do that.

Question. When you're programming percussion tracks, do they play just fine flow your DAW? If yes, then that track should be imported as Style. First you want to verify whether or not the notes for percussion tracks actually got imported. So what you wanna do is go to Style Record mode ....select the percussion track and press the menu button. Select "Event Edit menu" (if i remember correctly). That'll show you everything in that track. If it's empty then you gotta go back to your DAW and see what's going on. If the notes are there....then it could be a number of things. Is this track assigned to user samples or factory samples?

Hi Daniel...The international version is the regular one. The other one is geared towards Austrian/German folk music, because it has many sounds and styles for that genre. I think it's called "Musikant".

Thank you MF04...Yeah, it's definitely a lot of fun creating custom styles. I don't have access to that midi file right now, but if you google the midi file for "I'm an Englishman in New york" you'll easily find it.

What instruments are you using on each track in your pro tools session?

You'll see all the Program Change midi events in the video. First you'll see the default general midi sounds that come with the midi file....but later on I change the sounds to better Korg alternatives (all captured in the videos)

+DANIEL VIRGEN ...yes you can definitely use the Pa4x to play the church music. I don't know about the midi files that you would like to download. You might want to check with Korg forums members for that.

It’s a midi format. All channels are merged into one track. Logic users do report about their work on Korg forums regularly, so I’m sure it’s possible. Besides when it comes to midi, Logic is way more powerful anyway.

You CAN edit the midi file with or without the keyboard. In fact you can use a notation program to write/edit your tracks using your onboard sound card....but there comes a time when you really want to hear your work with actual keyboard sound to make fine adjustments. For keyboard specific features such as Guitar Mode you would need to be connected to the keyboard. Another example would be a custom drum kit that doesn’t follow the conventional drum mapping. That would also require the keyboard for playback reference for obvious reasons. Other than that you don’t really need the keyboard for the most part. It also depends on how well you know the process. Once you get more efficient, you’ll know how your edits will sound before you even load the midi file. I highly recommend that you listen to your work with the keyboard connected, before exporting the midi file.

@@KorgKeyboardTutorial also in the same tutorial part 1 at time 11:11 you change the channels and assign them to the keyboard (pa4x) channel, this was confusing to me how to get this into the DAW-

I know Sonar from Bandlab is free but I’ve never used it myself. Maybe if you post this question on the Pa4x Korg Forums, someone would know about this. Be nice to know actually…

I did check the Korg forum & someone had mentioned there that Anvil Studio was free and had those functionalities but I couldn't find a way to add markers. My wife & I sing every Saturday evening in Church. I have been using the Dopamine collection so far. Just looking for some new styles to add to my collection.

Changing the name of the track does NOT change the midi output. I just did that so people could see which track is assigned to which channel. Other than that, you'd need to physically assign the output of each track to a channel manually.
