We set out on a 5 day trip up Highway 395 in the Toyota Tacoma and stopped at this little slice of high-desert paradise. This was a great first day of the Sierra adventure. We’ll do some site seeing in the Mammoth Lakes area, some truck camping and a little fishing in the episode to come. Thanks for watching. TbT #travelingbytacoma

I grew up in central California before moving to Texas in 2005. I wish I'd explored more of this area in my 30+ years of calling California home.

It’s a great area for sure. It would take a lifetime to see it all on the 395. Thanks for watching and commenting. ✌🏼. TbT.

A small town Marklyville, near lake Tahoe.Take the road west over the sierra range. Very beautiful woods, granite mountains and huge waterfalls in summer months.

Those strange buildings down by Owens Lake was the Pittsburg Plate Glass Company plant. You can Google for more info.

I grew up in A little town called Lakeview on 395. If u travel east from Lakeview about 80 or so miles on hwy 140 you will find the peacock opal mine sign. If you take a right at the sign it takes you to an amazing warm pool with a shower house and camp grounds all about 5 miles off the highway. Also Boghot hot spring located on Boghot road. If you hit the town of Denio you’ve gone too far. Just an idea for ya.

Just as a warning, if you do come across these springs please do not assume they are all well kept and clean and SAFE, key word being safe. Some idiot threw a broken bottle in one of the ones I came across and I don't know how I escaped getting seriously hurt but i happen to find it while peering under water. I did remoe what i could see but the bottoms of these springs are muddy due to the sediment buildup and it can be a very risky proposition when jumping in feet first withour protection!!!

My girlfriend and I are heading out there in the near future and I drive a 2wd GMC Canyon with new Cooper Discoverer A/T tires and an automatic locking rear dif. The gentleman that tipped us off said I could probably make that drive in my truck. Since you've been there, what are the road conditions like? Do you think I could make it? The only thing I'd be worried about is long stretches of deep, soft sand.
@TravelingbyTacoma
@TravelingbyTacoma 3 года назад
You’ll be fine. The roads near here are just basic dirt roads. With the locking dif, you’ll be able to go all over in that area with no worries at all. 🤙🏼

Out of curiosity, the swimming hole isn’t really a secret. Why are you keeping it a secret? I already know where this is, and I know it’s very easily found and accessible, but I’m curious.

@TravelingbyTacoma

It’s water from the river right next to it. They drilled these to pull more water out of the ground from what I have heard. It’s coldish, but in summer it’s great. Thanks for watching and commenting. TbT

Same here! I just traveled to 8 creeks/rivers and 7 lakes this past few weeks and finally found this spot. The best part was the hunt! I won’t deprive someone of that adventure. I found soo many other great spots further out. I’m already day dreaming of going back.
