Fascinating to hear your self commentary, a technique also used by advanced motorcylists. It focuses the attention, ingrains the habit and cements the skills. As a management trainer in defence (and who was Hawk Project manager at Warton for 5 years) I applaud your instruction. Absolutely top drawer, thank you from this flight sim novice.
Your tutorials are brilliant. Your delivery is perfect, providing just the precise information needed. Thank you, this is the channel all MSFS users should be watching and learning from.
I stumbled across your channel by accident and thought I'd watch a couple of videos. You've got a sub from me. Very clear and concise and nice to see how to fly the Hawk properly. 👍
Fantastic thanks for sharing I was an engineer on the hawk at Scampton in the 80s and in the late 90s i worked for the uae airforce in the mk63 and mk102 hawk ,super aircraft Regards Dave from Scotland
@@cgaviator yeah these days the aircraft are all computer operated ,flyby wire etc . Im now a caa licenced aircraft engineer type rated on 6 passenger aircraft ,each type course lasts about a month ,not like the old days . By the way i can honestly say that your you tube clips are amazing Thanks Dave from Scotland
Great video. The first thing I did with the Hawk was aerobatics over the Duxford Airshow scenery. Not as disciplined as yours but now I know how to do it properly. I do like the smoke on the hawk, coming out of a loop and flying through your smoke is great fun!
I was tempted by smoke but figured I’d do a routine sometime view from outside. The smoke could be a little more realistic in how it dissipates but that’s me being very particular! 😅
Excellent video - my old man was an instructor on the hawk also and i grew up watching these jets go in and out of RAF valley so it's amazing to see how to fly them properly!
Brilliantly done! Interestingly I always do military circuits with a 45 degree bank into finals all the way round at 130 knots, but then I used to watch the F3s doing that at EGXC - different airplane altogether so higher airspeed but I think the method must have rubbed off on me :) Great aerobatics instruction, look forward to the next video.
Thank you! Tornados need about 180kt final, much heavier beast! 👍🏻 I should have checked more because it’s not outwardly advertise, but are you gents the master minds behind this aircraft?
Perfect vid for me just what I was literally just looking for. currently using Airshow assistant with the hawk for a full red arrow formation show. But this vid is perfect for me right now as I am learning from you how to actually do these manoeuvres correctly (first thought the jet felt a bit off, but no just me lol) refine my skills with your help your amazing Chris thank you so much! (Just started this bird up from cold with your help tonight too, my smile was golden!)
Excellent. First time I’ve heard a commentary that includes all those small but important details like 5 degrees nose up, entry speeds etc. I will try this on msfs but will appreciate airshow even more with these insider insights. Thanks for taking the time to do this.
Amazing content thank you! I have consumed so much YT MSFS 2020/SIM content over the last year or so and yours is up there with the very best I have seen along with Tim @ FJP and flightdeck2sim. I was lucky enough to witness refuelling Tornados from a VC10 during Op Jural and it's a memory that will never leave me, truly awe-inspiring!!! Gives me goose bumps just thinking about it lol! Please keep content like this coming, subbed!!
Really enjoying these - thanks for making them. Had a flight in a Hawk once during a fighter evasion sortie versus 2 Chinooks…have never felt as sick in all my life! Great little aircraft and can’t wait to get this when it comes to Xbox too. Keep up the good work
Have you tried knife edge? It exposes the flight model of MSFS quite badly. Roll the hawk on it's side, and impart some rudder to hold the nose up - it causes the simulator to tumble the aircraft completely randomly after a specific level of rudder deflection.
Again another excellent and informative video with much improved audio! It would be good to hear more about your background and what youre doing now my guess is without a doubt Ex-RAF but no longer in the UK, it would be great to hear the story of how you became such an excellent pilot These videos really are special and 300 subscribers in only 12 videos really is a special achievement, Well done
Great video!....Subscribed.....now I have to start up the old PC and get to work on my Aeros! The Hawk is amazing, I fly lots of warbirds in real life but just the old WWII types, never got to fly that jet!
@@cgaviator believe it or not the Harvard! Most challenging one to fly and I’ve flown just about every version, T6, SNJ-5…I love the Stearman and the Chipmunks, P-51. The Nanchang CJ-6 is also a joy to fly. They are all great and it’s truly an honour and a privilege to fly them
@@cgaviator indeed you should! You will fall in love with the chipmunk! That is after you grow a third set of hands to handle the taxi 😉😉. It’s the kind of airplane that you wear! Pure joy
Thanks! The limitations of the base sim I think make the flight dynamics twitchy. But big picture, it’s flies low level like it should, and the pitch/power/airspeed combinations have been working ok it’s certainly once of the more authentic models in the sim so far.
Great videos, I love it. The cleanliness and the precision are a joy to watch. Like your Mach Loop video, this is fantastic. May I ask if you ever tried flying with a VR headset?
Really great, nice to see the speeds and what to look out for. A video of the Mach Loop with commentary on the features and waypoints, taking off and recovering to Valley would be great.
This is the best tutorial I love watching your video's. I have downloaded some of your flight plans which are amazing, what joy stick do you use. I use the warthog which is amazing flight stick.
Excellent! Can you please comment my tests on MSFS Hawk. Trying to fly at or over normal envelope, It seems that JF Hawk refuse to fly high AOA with high drag. Example: Pulling max 9 G turn at 350 kts it is able to fly several 360 turns, then dropping down to a stable 200 kts and 4G turn with no stall. Is this correct, or Asobo limitation? (My only experience to compare is DCS fighters). In future videos , could you please demonstrate Hammerhead? Thank you both for your videos and Just Flight for the Hawk.
First I would say that you’ve overstressed the aircraft. Max g is +7.2g. Generally crews will train to max rate fight at +6.9g. It will bless speed if maintained. I’ll try the max performance tonight if I get a chance
Another great video, loved the instructional parts - that's what's really missing from a lot of sim videos. Audio levels are great now too, appreciate the 60fps also! Seems the encoding quality feels a little lower than previous tho, I see your bitrate is fine so maybe there are some other encoding options that might help. Not sure what editor you're using tho
Thanks for the feedback again, I’m slowly getting there! Switched to Davinci Resolve, first time using. I’m working the system hard with the ultra settings and recording so perhaps that’s something to do with it. I’ll keep tweaking!
@@cgaviator Ah, I think my replies are being withheld as I posted a link to a screen shot of my Resolve export settings. They're probably in your Dashboard > Comments > Held For Review section.
Very good observation. Yes I have dampened the movement around center as well as increasing look up so I can see behind during loops etc. I’ll try and remember to post it on my website this weekend.
This was great and learned a lot, many thanks I always seem to be fighting with the trim though - in your opinion is the trim the same in the real Hawk?
Nice vid, good parameters and demo. Patter very CFS😁. As a point of accuracy, the RAFAT jet threshold speed didn’t start with the clean 110kts plus 1kt per 100 kgs of fuel. It should be the 115 kts (for the gun (smoke pod)) plus the fuel. In reality a 125 kts blanket speed was often used (wake turbulence). Didn’t seem to mess up the arrival.
I do dabble know in DCS but I find it much harder just to load up and have fun. In MSFS I can explore familiar areas and all the key bindings are the same for each aircraft.
Research the official requirements, meet or exceed them, practice your interview technique and put that application in!!! I'm thinking of doing a video on just this subject. That's a ways away for now.
Love these videos. Just purchased the hawk on Xbox and it doesn’t perform anywhere near like the PC version. Rolls like and a380 and nothing like this video. Gutted!
@@cgaviator please let me know if you figure anything out with it. Most noticeable difference is the agility of the aircraft is really sluggish and it struggles to hold altitude. It’s constantly pulling up and the trim function doesn’t seem to correct it.
@@scoobisam2008 Yeah, I've reported it plenty to the devs. The flight dynamics have suffered over the years with MSFS updates. At least that's how I understand it. I hope they update it and make it agile again. I believe that's what's happened. Presume you're using the latest version?
@@cgaviator yeah I only downloaded it earlier this week so all up to date. Really gutted it wasn’t as expected, especially after spending $50 on it lol! I really hope they correct it, my fear is they will invest time and energy into something for the new 2024 release in November now and this will be a thing of the past.
@@scoobisam2008I have the same issue, this fix might work for you but if you go to assistance options then turn off ‘assisted controller sensitivity’ that might make it a bit better 😉
I believe there’s been a lot of updates with the flight model. It may be that they dialled back the roll rate to minimise the uncontrollable snap or wobble. This is just my speculation as I’ve not had chance to try it. When you roll, make sure you neutralise pitch as that can slow it down.
Grateful for your time making these hawk videos. I find my hawk to have a very twitchy and some times over accelerated roll. Is this true to real life? Have you found the same with the same version
Roll rates in these swept wing jets is significant, true to real life! Flying the real one with finesse takes smooth inputs. You wouldn’t use max stick deflection to roll it into turns. Also depends on the controller you’re using.
@@BANDIT_NOOB trouble with joysticks is they’re generally short throw. Not much movement required for large input. I have an extension to my warthog stick and it makes a bit difference
Does the Hawk have an attitude hold flight mode? As in, can you just use the joystick to point the nose in a certain direction and the aircraft computer just holds that attitude?
How do you keep level when inverted please? I'm having difficulty with this plane that when inverted the nose drops even with full stick forward? Using Hotas 1 stick.
If you’re too slow it won’t hold. Try 300kt. Also check your trim, if you’ve accidentally trimmed ‘up’ it’ll hurt you when you’re upside down potentially.
I am having trouble with pulling loops and hard turns, as soon as I pull up the Hawk kind of bounces and then it starts to pull, same with hard turning, as soon as I turn hard it bounces and then turns. Yours is smooth, any ideas?
Yup, don’t pull hard! 👍🏻 You’re likely G stalling the aircraft which is to say that you run out of lift, you get heavy buffet (the nose bounces). Try keeping an eye on the g meter and keeping your manoeuvres to 4g. Hope that helps
Thanks for that, I tried to do this but my artificial horizon goes awol (flag pops out) and the generators fail. This happens any time I try manoeuvres, any idea what I am doing wrong please?
It happens to me as well but I haven’t had chance to fault find. I believe that would happen if you have a HOTAS switch bound to relight. Check your bindings. You can easily reset it by pressing the electrics reset buttons
@@cgaviator sorted it. It seems to happen if I throttle back to less than 80%. To correct it I press the two inverter buttons for 1&2 inverter and the generator button at the bottom. The buttons I mean are vertical to the left of your left knee. The first buttons you come to on the same panel as the gear n flaps. Worked for me every time tonight.
Can you say why the JF "T1" does not have a MM (Moving Map) in a right DDI position and a HSI on the left DDI? There is then a MFD center position, duplicated in rear cockpit. The cockpit layout is not current RAF T1 standard. Additionally, no TACAN's are functional in MSFS, making radio navigation impossible using TACAN.
Are you confusing T1 and T2 perhaps? T1 has no digital displays other than the optional GPS. And yes, frustrating about Tacan. Better make it a VOR approach!
Nice video, I’m surprised to find I’ve been doing these Maneuverers about right (speed / G / technique) but this will refine things somewhat. Question. I’ve tried barrel rolls in the Hawk, seem to pull a lot of G’s doing this, they are not as easy to pull off as other aircraft, any tips?
Yes! I'll be including the barrel roll in my next aero video. Tricky to explain by text. And my way is not the only way, all depends on altitude and aircraft fuel weight.
Hawk will be coming to Xbox soon. I believe JF are focusing on a few others first. I enjoy aeros most in high performance prop aircraft such as PC-21 (by Iris). AzurPoly TB30 while less powerful also good fun. If I had to check another jet then the M346 by indiafoxtecho though MSFS FBW simulation can cause some interesting side effects at low speed. The Griffin is a lot of fun to handle and looks great. And the CS Sim typhoon is currently the king of alpha! Lots to choose from!
Ok thanks! I see they’ve added the top Mach f22 and a new a10 so I’m probably going to get them soon but I had no clue they were working on getting the hawk to console.
Just a quick question when I fly the hawk in mfs the plane does not react that quick for me when I want to role there aircraft in verged meaning that when I do it my heading is not where I want it to be
Should have used the smoke for a more spectacular result. This aircraft has to be flown in VR it will blow you away. There is some amazing free scenery for RAF Valley available that i use.
I’ve tried the smoke effects and they’re not particularly realistic in how they dissipate. You may be able to tell me how to assign smoke on to a control input?
@@cgaviator You choose the Hawk that has the smoke panel upper left select the switch and choose a colour. In VR this is spectacular as you can see how accurate your loop was when you reconnect with the smoke on completion.
Nice aircraft, but the elevator seems to always be pitching up, even when inverted! Does the elevator actually move with stick input on this Just Flight model or is that a bug? Also noticed that the ailerons don't move during rolls either ...
@@cgaviator If I do them at anything below 300 feet I’m in the runway picking cockpit glass out of my face! I’ve even tried setting the controller to plus 100 on the sensitivity. I WILL get to the bottom of this
Great! I am going to do this right now! Although I am still struggling with my controls setup. For instance the rudder … when taxiing it steers like a madman, but during takeoff it doesn’t do what I want as if there’s a speed dependent rudder pressure reducer or something. I’ll read up on this first.
