So many hint and tips I could try to share, but to a degree, you gotta do it your way. I've built Cumbria fun fighters, which aren't the same but looks like yours in similar. Feel free to shout with any questions. Im on the Faceballs group if you want to PM me. Two tips for now. Looks like you haven't fitted the wing seat doublers (part 21I think). These sit on the inside of the ply fuz side and help spread the load when you're wing is mounted. Easiest to fit before you start to put the fuz together when you can glue them on to flat fuz sides. Worth getting them on sooner rather than later while you have most open access to the fuz. I have put wing servos in mine doing my own thing. I should have done the torque rods as in your plan. Some oil them etc. The best tip I heard was to put heat shrink on the bit stuck on the wing. Oil metal then put on and gently shrink the heat shrink. Then as you glue it into the wing the heat shrink becomes a bearing. It's what I'll do with my next one. Have fun!!
When I was a kid I made loads of balsa models......The secret is to put the big plan on a big flat surface with a sheet of plastic or greaseproof paper on top then pin the parts to the board. Then stick them together!
I think it's cool you are doing this Matt.... My favorite part of balsa kits was the sanding and shaping. Balsa dust floating in the air, coating every flat surface but seeing it come into shape really got me. One of the reasons I like my HC44 is that it actually gets "built". It reminded me of the old days of actually building a model like you're doing now.
Hey Matt it looks like this one's going to teach you more than you bargained for. Far way away from a foamy with thumbscrews holding it together. I love it! Thumbs up!
Looks like building by numbers. That bulkhead has a hole at the bottom for the front wing retaining dowel. A single centre servo driving the ailerons with torque rods is quite common on trad builds. It results in a nice strong clean build.
after 10 to 20 builds it ll becomes second nature ;-) The picture showes the centre trailing edge material has a "V" cut in it to accept the Torque Tubes with a notch to allow enough movement of the arm, as Heady 2008 said this is very common SEAGULL do it a lot on their ARTF`s as it is cheap and simple, Personaly I would fit small wing servos
Hey Matt Awesome series, great for someone like me who's new to all of this, only been flying (mainly crashing lol) for about 3 months so far. But the thing I love about your vids is that you totally include the newbies! Everyone else talks to you expecting you to have 20k years of experience in the hobby! I also love the fact that your real, by that I mean you don't edit the feck ups out! Lol you show us your human and you make mistakes, but then you show us how to rectify those mistakes, and they are the same mistakes that people like me, newbies, are going to make! So thank you for being real! Now on to the reason for this comment... where is the next episode of this build? I want to see you complete this 109! Lol I want to see the build and the maiden! So how far have you got with it? (Btw I've not been a subscriber for that long, so haven't got through all your playlists yet lmao) so please please please show us the rest of the build! Cheers Tim 😁
Howdy Tim, there isn't anything to show really other than a few half built photos of it in the FB group. Balasa models are not for me, they take too long and are too fragile. It's been stuck on the top shelf until I get bored with it being up there or sell it, Matt
RagTheNutsOff Lol I get that bro, my problem is I love building stuff, specially planes and quads. I've built so many Flite Test models over the last couple of months its unreal lol I get as much joy building as crash...... er... flying 😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣 I can't wait for the day I can fly a full pack without having to make the walk of shame at least twice! Lol 😜
Oooooh....Matt's building a real model....Proud of you chap....it's character building stuff....I think it's cheating though having the luxury of laser cut formers etc....lol...These Funfighters were really popular years ago you know.....Makes me feel all Nostalgic.
Well, at least when you have built this proper model, it will make you appreciate your ready made foamies more methinks...? Even if they are shit in comparison.
Hi Matt..Would have liked if you had said in the beginning like " Howdy..I am Matt..& in this episode you are going to watch me Getting Frustrated..".. ))
