I had a Soundstream Reference component set (RF-60c) and the 6.5" midwoofer looked very similar to those. 3" coil, just like the Dynaudio driver these are a copy of. They did sound good and had very good passive filters.
I’m working on getting some subs. There stuff seems solid. They aren’t really a company that designs anything but rather a company that has build houses put stuff together for them. Price and quality seem good.
@@Hi-Fire-do yes I agree, but they tend to seem to set the trend before others do. Or before they have some type of special spec that is put into a product that makes it unique from others. I know they’re new versions of their subs and the last versions are really something special. A lot of people have tested them out and they talk about how surprisingly the SPL is there and maybe not as loud as others but yet the SQ at those high thresholds are much more pleasing to the ear , than other models from other companies. They don’t do well to the typical SPL woofer that box builders will add another 10 to 20% of box volume to get out more SPL. They do much better in their own speck build and give out very high numbers yet with attention to detail with SQ their new line of subwoofers are to keep up with a lot of the SPL competitors out there , but much more responsive than just muddy booming base.
Maybe. Showing actual Frequency response per speaker and phase shift for the crossover helps. Explaining how the parts of the crossover affect sound and then explaining how speaker placement and phase shift matter, would be a good start.
You had me at German. Almost 20 years ago I bought a Canton surround sound system for my house and I've been a fan ever since. I'm going to look into these NVX components and you've got a sub from me as I'll be watching the rest of the test to see how they fare.
Did a quick search of the website. Looks like they attached that German made stamp only on the tweeters. Any chance you can verify the origin of the other components?
@@pimpovic2 I was told the set comes from Germany, no made in China anywhere, but you never know. I think these are great options for the price and quality, the biggest draw back is the not included hardware and the size due to the fancy baskets. Thanks for watching!
I like the way they sound but after all being German made is a + imo. The vcw series subs aren't bad either. Still using the old school q series 6.5' component set quartz,German made. Holy cow, $400, Maybe one day 🤞 ty sir for sharing your review
Thank you for watching. I hope to get my hands on some of the subs NVX VCW124 Version 3. If they are on par wit the quality and sound of these I think they are a great bargain at $199.
Have you seen the new XCW NVX subwoofers? They look legit. I own VCW 15s version 1 and 3. I have been impressed with them. I also own kicker solox 15, JL w7s, sundown U, x, and lots of other brands just for context.
The baffles you used are fine for testing just you might want to move them away from everything. if you listen to when you moved the camera to the left side you can hear the corner loading on the low end. they still sound great. I noticed no one driver really stands out. it sound like one cohesive unit.
If that was when they were played with the subwoofer, that would be because the port on the sub box is just left of the bench likely. The sub box definitely has a bit of direction to the sound from the port side. thanks for watching
I considered this set actually. But the 3-in mid-range or 3 and 1/2 in whatever they call it with. That cast basket is just so huge that I just couldn't find a way to put it on my dash or a pillar or a pod that wouldn't look ridiculous and stand out and flashy because I live in an apartment. If I had an older car that I didn't mind cutting up the doors I would have probably done it. I went with Infinity kappa 3 way and was able to drop the 3 and 1/2 in straight into the dash. Almost flush without modification in a 2012 Highlander. A little bit of modification is upcoming to get them under the grill. And I think they are pretty okay. I'll be at the stock crossovers have them I think at 800 HZ bandpassed and I think that that should be lower. Maybe $300 or 400 HZ but I haven't got a DSP installed in there yet to play with it. Looking forward to the rest of this series!
You are correct, that fancy cast basket kinda hurts installation options, same goes for the woofer. We will be including the 3 way Infinity Kappa as well. You might want to plug your ears for that video, they aren't my favorite.
I have the midranges and after a short test and comparing them to the Lavoce Fan030.71 i was not impressed, they are smooth sounding, similar to the Diamond Audio, but the Lavoce, for the same price, are much more efficient even being a 8 ohm driver it gets louder with the same power and sound awesome, and the neo motor makes it easier to mount anywhere.
I will do a video on that, make sure you subscribe. I also have a second identical power supply for sale. you can always message me on instagram @hi-fire-do
Does a $150,000 Mercedes AMG really drive $120,000 better than a Honda Civic? LOL. I would pay the $300 more. BTW all these speakers are auditioning for my car! thanks for watching, these are the "cheap" ones of the test!
They are likely built in the same factory, but the speaker leads, as well as the cone material are different. The tweeter is similar in the diaphram, but doesn't have just bare wires coming out It's likely that NVX "used" a existing design and tailored it to their product line by adding the carbon fiber cone and some other details. It also looks as if Recoil no longer sells them. Including hardware would have been a great addition. Thanks for watching
No offense to NVX because these are good speakers. But you can get the exact same setup from Recoil. And I mean exact. Same speakers, same crossovers, same lack of hardware and mounting position on the tweeters. Even the same boxes. But for a cheaper price from Recoil.
@@Hi-Fire-do yeah I think I saw DS18 with that same basket. But they're good speakers. I'm not knock them on that. Just you can get them cheaper. I've bought a few things from Recoil and it's all been great experiences. So what ever built house that is they make good products.
@@timothy5977 I'm gonna say that there is a liklihood these drivers are similar or the same as what recoil may have offered, but it looks like NVX is the only one with them at this time. Other than the size of the baskets and the non existent hardware, these are a good value and performer for sure.
The differences are not always in plain sight, lower grade components in the crossover, lower tolerances, cheaper grade copper wire in coils, and stuff off the assembly line that doesn’t pass Q.C. is often sorted and sold as lesser brand names. Not saying that is the case here, but you generally get what you pay for.
Ugh. While the speakers *look* ok, you won't know until each one is properly measured and then measured with the crossover. The speakers probably measure "good enough", who knows about the tweeter. The crossovers are complete ass. I would expect a single iron core for the low signal crossover but there are so many iron cores there and the air core inductors are TINY. Of course they're using cheap electrolytic capacitors, but those could be replaced with good poly caps instead. Same design but much better construction. Those ceramic resistor MUST go. They are the absolute cheapest trash you could possibly go with. Replacing the chea trash parts in the crossover with good stuff wouldn't be too hard a hit in their budget for those speakers, especially if you cut back on a lot of that stupid packaging. It's so overkill and expensive while adding zero value.
I agree. The packaging is stupid waste of resources and cost. I would like to see a bag of screws that properly fit the mid range speaker grills, or yes maybe better crossover components. I will say they do look better than most crossovers in the test.
@@Hi-Fire-do the mark up on the speakers is unreal. the set previous to this utilized SB Acoustic drivers. im unsure of where these are from now. the mid and woofer looks like a random chinese driver, as ive seen that exact basket and cone design in many other brands. doesnt mean its bad, just means its not part of an actual spec'd design philosophy. the tweeter is claimed to be made in germany. i have no idea who that might be. also, for the tweeters, the crossover frequency is 2800hz. the midrange has a Fs of ~76hz, meaning they shouldnt really be crossed over lower than around 160hz or so. they have 1.5mm one-way xmax. i would imagine the mid is crossed over around 250hz, but its impossible to know without seeing the crossover network
