Had to comment again. Everyone who owns an addi should watch this video. I use an electric adaptor on mine, but since taking it apart and cleaning it, I'm no longer getting all those awful noises. Runs 100% better. Thank you again.

I’ve had my 2 Addi’s for about 10 years. 8 years ago, I took my King sized Addi apart. This is so similar to how my husband and I took mine apart. That sticky stuff is a grease needed for the machine. If it’s cleaned off, which we did, we used a silicone spray…. Just a small amount. I had the digital counter that wouldn’t work correctly, so I clipped off the wires 😂. I just purchased a small digital counter for my thumb. Back when I bought my King and regular Addi Express, they were both digital counters. My little Addi has never had any problems. I have a fun collection of circular knitting machines. I have the Sentro, a vintage Icord knitting machine, and a few other crafter toy knitting machines. One that I have is all in Chinese (packaging). I wish there was a larger King Sized Addi. I feel the King is great for children and people with small heads. I’m always checking for a bigger one, but no luck. Great job with this video!!! I watch your video uploaded after you did this one and it runs like a dream!!!! ❤❤❤

Hey hun, thanks for doing a video on this. The Addi isn't hard to clean after you do it the first, but that first time can be nerve racking. I do have to say though, you may want to take your machine apart again and take off all the lithium grease. I know a lot of people say it is okay to use that, I even used it the first time I cleaned my Addi. I noticed the smell as I applied it to my machine, so I did some research. Lithium grease is made from fossil fuels (petroleum) the same as vaseline. It will break down the plastic and the gears. The safest thing to use on your machine is Silicone, which is actually made from quartz ore. Not only does it protect better but leaves a non sticky lubrication that won't accumulate dust and fibers. Excellent video as always. Have a great day!
@koalaknitsandknacksaddicrochet
@@colleenmelton6735 thank you. I was under the impression that as long as it was “white” lithium and not just lithium, it would be ok. Thanks for the info. I shall research more. 😍

@@koalaknitsandknacksaddicrochet Pfft, girl I was right there with you. I thought exactly the same thing. The only reason I discovered it, was because it gave me a hideous headache and had a particular odor. The white color actually comes from zinc oxide which I am allergic to, thus the headache. But, it does protect from scuffing and wear and tear, however it is more for use in metal knitting machines and other metal objects since its base is petroleum. Silicone grease is actually an inorganic polymer made up of silicone oil which is made from silicon a natural chemical element and oxygen atoms and a thickener is added, most likely amorphous fumed silica (Diatomaceous earth). This makes it safer to use on plastics since its chemical makeup is more complimentary than costic to plastics chemical compounds. Hope this helps some. Sorry for the long reply. Anxiously awaiting your next project.

You did it! Congrats on being so brave! When I take things apart, I get it a muffin pan to put the screws in. I can keep each step separate, and if I am careful not to tip it on to the floor (it happened once), I know which screws go in next. My husband always had "leftovers" and it made me crazy! I would recommend that next time you use a non petroleum product such as silicone. Petroleum will eat plastic given time.

Great job. You are great at teaching and at keeping morale high while taking apart our beloved Addi. I watch “Gear one and 2”. He also made a gear I wanted to buy. but when I asked the group, they informed me the only other metal gear would have to be (Gold) because of the friction on a plastic machine. Because he had a made a metal gear he could use oil and Vaseline (an oil by product) but it will destroy other parts of our beloved Addi “a plastic machine”. I watched and tried Diane plastic gear video and it did help. There are several videos on You Tube about the type of lubricant that are safe for plastic. These have been tried and found to be safe. One being ‘White Lithium Grease’. Your video and “Addi gear1 & 2”, all 3 helped me understand much more how to put machine back together (with no extra screws). I had some problems trying to follow Diane’s putting the Addi back together Also; you pointing out that the Addi’s needles has to be extend beyond the top of the “yarn guide” to avoid dropped stitches. This is a brilliant discovery. I love your video and have found so many helpful suggestions, that is one reason I do not want anything to happen to your Addi. I was amazed at the amount of lint and dust on your gear itself. Vaseline is a byproduct of petroleum, petroleum and hard plastic are not friends, I would have used silicone oil that is friendly with plastics.

🤣🤣🤣🤣Oh pandemonium! I got my machine apart OK, but my row counter was actually wired to the chassis of the the machine and when I lifted the top off the wires came off so I don't have a counter now, 😔 however, I'll get my husband to solder the wires back on when I take it apart again when I get the dielectric silicone grease, I could only get the silicone spray. Then putting it back together again it sure was a challenge, it certainly got the brain working, then I ended up with spare screws, even though I had them all in order they still got missed so I had to take the bottom off again and screw the middle part down then put the base back on, phew! By the time I take it apart the second time I'll be an expert almost, and I noticed there was a bit of a difference with your machine compared to mine, with the handle and the row counter. I got it altogether again even if it took me half a day and the loss of some hair🤣🤣🤣🤣, I made a little gasket for the handle out of aluminium foil like you suggested and there's no more wobble in the handle and she runs pretty good now although the red needle cage (?) Rattles somewhat but I'll look at that when I open her up again. Once again thank you for being brave for the rest of us and thank you for sharing your video. Cheers from Australia!

Hi Shelly, thank you for your great video on how to clean the Addi. I followed along with you (going back and forth many times), but eventually got it all back together. I note that you mentioned skipped stitches and therefore you wanted to bring the needles closer to the yarn feeder. Now I've had my machine for about 4 years and have never pulled it apart until today. On putting it back together, I noticed that there was a little rubber square attached on the panel where the row counter is situated. I've never had a problem with dropped stitches, so I'm wondering if the manufacturer made an additional correction and glued this bit of rubber near the row counter. I don't know how to attach a pic on here, but can show you if someone can tell me how to attach a pic. I've seen a few Addi's pulled apart on RU-vid, but none have had the extra little rubber square attached. I have the version you do, with the manual row counter. Thank you again for taking the plunge to do maintenance on your Addi machine. I'm sure this video will be invaluable to all of us. After a clean and a grease, my Addi is running smoothly.

I have never used compressed air so I can’t speak to it but I have heard others have. The thing is you need to still grease it when it’s sounding like it’s needed and that means taking your machine apart anyways. So you may as well clean it. White Lithium Grease.

I wish this would've been life. I would hold you to separate the screws.
@koalaknitsandknacksaddicrochet
I’ve cone to realize after doing this several times now….lol….that there really are only two different kinds of screws in this machine. The pointy ones and the flat bottom ones and I now know which ones go where. 🥰

For some reason I can’t like this video so I wanted to put my “like” here. Just bought an addy and it’s problematic right out of the box. Wondering if I shouldn’t make the adjustments now before I get frustrated and give up. Thanks.

I would it take it apart if you just got it. If you are sure that it is not just the learning curve that you need to get through then send it back. I honestly feel that people think machines are faulty and send them back when really they just need to learn how to use it. Proper yarn is the key. Go buy Bernat “PREMIUM”, Caron Latte Cakes or Heartland yarn and try that till you figure out what your machine likes and what tension and speed works well. If you don’t have all 3 things correct - especially the yarn, you will tuck stitches and think your machine is junk when really it isn’t. Don’t take a new machine apart. That is my suggestion.

I still don't get how you made the guide closer. Can you explain please? Thank you 😊
@koalaknitsandknacksaddicrochet
When I screwed the inside pieces back on I pushed the sides closer together before tightening the screw. The score may have been loose when assembled at the factory so tightening it seemed to help ever so slightly but I’m convinced it made a difference.

@koalaknitsandknacksaddicrochet
Go to RU-vid and look up how to replace a needle on addi. Or you can also watch my video on cleaning the addi. Only take it apart as far as you need to change the needles. I also show you where the black needles go. There are two parts to the video.
