It's not about it being normalized. At the end of the day, none of us has been in his presence long enough to know the real him or what he truly does to women. FEW people are going to drastically change their behaviour off rumours. Also for those who are slightly older, a lot of R Kelly's old hits are tied to our teen/coming of age memories (e.g. first dance, first time, high school /college years etc) so regardless of what the man may have done, you're not going to wipe out the nostalgia attached to certain songs.
Yeah being a thot is so normalized that nobody even considers these girls throwing themselves on him and forcing him to just do it. Like he is so bad but the girl is a hero to say she was going threesomes at the age of 17 with other girls.
Or they just love his music. He was the King of RnB for over almost 2 decades. His ex wife says she still supports him musically and listens to him. So if she aint muting R Kelly then its not fair to put the owness on everyone else. And just because you listen to a song dont mean you like/admire them as a person or agree to what they do.
@@badddd People who just love his music were probably already listening. I was. I'm referring to the spike or increase in listening. The increase was probably due to new listeners.
oh yeah girl. Look it up. His sales sky rocketed. He is also making a documentary called surviving the lies where he calls everyone out. I can't. @@claudiamontoya5687
I’ve stopped listening to it. However I am guilty of listening to a few collaborations, like the one with the Isley brothers. But I definitely don’t listen to any of his music by himself.
Loni is straight lying.. I saw someone say this on iG and Twitter and it went viral... she's using someone else's story and acting like its hers.. whats new tho loool
I personally cannot understand the separate the art from the artist argument in this particular instance because his art was a depiction of his disgusting behaviour. If each song is about the girls as claimed (which I do personally believe) then I cannot listen to his songs in good conscience. He is talented but that's just not good enough.
This is why you are suppose to research everything because people should question all music, television show, performer, and just everything. Everything a person does should be questioned and research.
Rosette Ackesson S. You are entitled to your opinion, they are not worth anything but yet you are entitled because everyone has one because they are free
Loni interrupted Jeannie when she was saying something SO TRUE!! A lot of people feel this is normal behavior .. Loni and Adrienne should have taken this very moment to say IF YOU THINK THIS IS NORMAL .. ITS NOT!
Dont judge me or anything I didnt know who r kelly was until this all came out i didnt know he made I believe I could fly so yes I listened to his music cause I really didnt know him until now.
Excellent point Loni....People also don't realize they are BUYING it if its on spotify cuz you can get so much music on demand for one price. I feel like folks didn't connect the dots and did not intentionally support this man.
The reason his spotify went up is people are legit bumping his music still, go to his music videos in the comment section you'll see the majority saying they dont care they'll still play his music.
It's not because "black girls don't matter enough". It's more likley because people went "Oh, R.Kelly, I remember his songs.. google search, click, oh yea", I doubt people thought about it that way (in terms of providing him attention in the form of revenue, and profitability. But it's good to point it out so people are more aware.
People just like his music. People aren’t buying music to say that “black girls don’t matter”. We are all very simple.... a good beat makes you bob your head.
S W Lol that name is a little bit too rough, and long for a TV show title. But "Locking Up R Kelly" sounds better even though I'm not in support of that.
Because we as African Americans don't hold are people accountable when they do this stuff....they whole R.Kelly "secrets" have been known for years by many many people yet he is still famous raking in the $ and WOMEN and men still support him...hold this man accountable
Catie Quimby you don’t feel bad for his wife who he mentally and physically abused? The same wife that had to ask so that she could eat? The same wife who he locked up all the time? What’s wrong with u??
runchranda xo the same wife that still has her abuser’s last name even after being divorced for years? The same wife that went on a reality tv show talking about being a famous wife of a celebrity? Are we talking about the same wife that posted several videos, one of which was last year telling people to go to R.Kelly concerts so she could live lavish? The same wife that was just caught singing along to one of his songs on video? No ma’am. What is wrong with you?
It is said that his songs are stories “age ain’t nothing but a number” there for people are streaming his music to find clues, and people are using his song making spoofs and skits for social media..
If you’ve seen the docu-series, people may be listening to the music to equate it to what they’ve just seen in the documentary. They made a lot of connections between the women’s testimonies and the songs... for other people who may not have seen it yet, they may be trying to listen to their favorite songs before they disappear because the music might be taken out of circulation. I don’t think it’s because the victims don’t matter
So, if someone still listens to R. Kelly's music, that's bad? Ok, then we are all guilty because he has been doing this since, to my knowledge , since 1988, before social media! And most of the people he rock with knew too, even if they deny it. It is completely wrong to have sexual relations with minors, but he's not the only one that does.
Sooo when it was bill cosby, yall was seperating the person from the work..?? But now its r kelly and its wrong to bump and grind and listen to ignition..?? I noticed yall do this pick and choose ish a lot. Like when beyonce and jay z had their issues and got back together, it was different than khloe and tristan
Desarae don’t be comparing queen bey and that Kardashian’s they will NEVER be on the same level EVER. Khloe and tristian we’re together not even a year and popped out a kid bey and jay z were together over a DECADE it simply doesn’t compare
I think in general, people separate a persons professional life from their personal life. Whether he did horrible things or not, the man still has music that people will enjoy and listen to, and by listening to it they don’t feel like they’re supporting what he did.
That was a stance I originally took, I even thought it was ok that I paid a dollar to get TP-2 from goodwill since R Kelly wasn't getting paid. But when you have to face the truth, do you really want to listen to sexual music made by someone who committed statutory rape?
Unfortunately the law is a double edged sword, damned if ya do damned if ya don’t. And as far as police shootings there’s an education that needs to be had on both sides
People listen because the mere mention of his name in pop culture creates sales...that’s just how it is good or bad. Some people probably listened to remember or find out who he is.
His new song is called ( Ouch i Dropped the Soap ) get it on I tunes or Call R Kelly at Illinois State Prison and have him Sing it over the Phone but remember he only has 3 min of phone time per day
He's the king of r&b, that why. U want me to stop listening to his great songs cause u told me too?? Everyone should be looking in they're own backyards!
Tamar has recently commented under one of his photos in support with whatever the photo was about. On Instagram I saw it before he turned his comments off.
I'm a black female and I'm not going to stop listening to R Kelly. His talent doesn't have anything to do with what he does behind close doors. Because you don't sleep with young girls, but you sleep with a same sex person of your age and it's right. All of it is wrong! Sin is sin! When the Lord returns just make sure your soul is right and stop worrying about someone else's soul. I'm so tired of listening about this. Instead of talking about him, try praying for him!
Strictly from a legal perspective, this docuseries is slanderous considering R Kelly was acquitted of all his crimes in court. In the US, citizens are protected against Double Jeopardy- meaning, since he was found innocent, he can’t be re-tried for the same crimes. Thus, if I were R. kelly, I would cash in on this opportunity by filing a lawsuit for Public Defacement. There is a big cash opportunity here for him. That being said, I don’t think it’s always healthy to let public opinion judge individuals for their crimes, however, I do think special exceptions should be legally made from time to time regarding double jeopardy; if R Kelly is, in fact, guilty, and there is factual, objective, probable evidence supporting this (not just “he said she said”) then there is no reason he shouldn’t be behind bars. Sexual misconduct is very tricky and controversial these days. I wish there was a better process of determining innocence. I don’t like the idea that’s floating around that individuals are guilty until proven innocent, but I also don’t like how difficult it is to prove ones guilt. It’s a messy situation. I’m glad it’s being talked about, but I do wish the broader conversation (conversations like these) were less focused on the individuals supposed crimes, and more focused more wholesomely on all the evidence both for and against said individuals.
Adrienne wasn’t able to understand how people can separate music to the artist but can understand investing in the music for sheer curiosity¿ In all honesty I think there’s just people that are capable of separating the music from the artist and others that can’t Just about all the music I listen to I end up interpreting it my way and it’s usually different to the artists’ reason behind the song I can separate it, I just don’t bother with his music because I’ve never thought it was all that to begin with Also if I were to listen to it I would have to already have it where I’m not required to buy because although I can separate the song and artist I’m also aware that buying it will mean he gets paid and at that point I’ll be investing in his living.. With all that said if you’re that curious you can easily look up the lyrics without paying for the songs.. Just my opinion, to each their own..
I could not finish watching the docuseries because I was so disgusted at what this man is doing.I stopped listening to him about 15-20 years ago (right after his first hit) when it was back then a "rumor" he secretly married Aaliyah when she was underage. I worked with Aaliyah's cousin when Aaliyah died , and she told me the Hatred they have for that man is unbelivable. What's sad is I often hear the "Yes he probably is guilty but the boy got talent".This coming from men with Daughters.SMH
Everyone already knew this about R. Kelly years ago so why all of a sudden now it’s a big problem ? Why wasn’t this taken care of years ago while it was happening ?🧐🙄
Alexandra Nieves Everything has it’s time Sometimes God won’t allow consequences but when he does it is for correction and healing Not just for R Kelly, also for so many family members in our society that are doing the same thing, that has been going on way before R Kelly But nobody want to talk about that on social media. There need to be a surviving family members ,don’t you agree?
Uhhh... people have been protesting and allegations have been brought out about r.kelly since 2002!!!! Y’all are only now just starting to pay attention because his popularity has slowly been dying, his power and influence over ppl is waning and with the rise social media it’s much harder to hide what he is doing.
While you make a few valid points, you have gone to an unsubstantiated extreme by lumping homosexuality and interracial coupling into this matter @@jackpea7102 , goodness! While everyone is entitled to their opinions, your clearly biased view on gay people and interracial couples does not validate your arguments by even the slightest iota. While certain churches and other bigoted organizations like to incorrectly spew that homosexuality is a learned or conditioned "behavior", science and simple common sense has shown otherwise. Gay people have existed since the beginning of time (Biblical days mind you), and in EVERY corner of the globe, even places where it was and still is punishable by death, no questions asked. If you actually educated yourself on the matter, you would realize that gay people don't just wake up and decide to choose this & in fact, most don't want to be gay at all - which is why so many live a lie for as long as they can, and try not to be who they are. Humans have also always inter-married; when not between different races, they inter-married/procreated inter-culturally and between nationalities and such. Borders, laws, families disowning them and other methods of prevention has never been able to stop this, (or entirely stop gay people from being who they are). So whether these human realities are encouraged or not, they have always happened throughout history and will always continue to happen, whether you approve or not. So rather than put so much energy into trying to stop people from loving each other, perhaps folks with your mindset could re-direct that frustration into helping people come together against actual, real threats, and make this world a better place for those who are suffering needlessly.
It's like they say "Any publicity is good publicity". Whether people are curious, doing research, or showing support...the documentary spiked some form of interest or emotion that wasn't there before so of course his numbers spiked. I'm confused though because I thought Spotify banned his music??
They didn't ban it they just removed it from their playlists (you know how they make playlists based on what their listeners like) so you can still find his music on there it just wont come up unless you look for it
betty x angelus that’s what I thought the policy was too. But today I was recommended a Spotify playlist “I love my 90’s R&B” and R. Kelley is actually featured on it in “Back & Forth”, a song by Aaliyah. So I guess the algorithm is still not right.
Too many people want to say “well he hasn’t been legally found guilty so I’m still going to support him” which Is the first problem. Secondly, our girls, and specifically our BLACK GIRLS, should matter to us much more.
And that argument pisses me off because George Zimmerman wasn’t found guilty either, but we know he is a fucking murderer! Damn, the human race is so disappointing!
I did too. I stopped listening to him years ago! I had an ex coworker get angry with me for saying I don't support his music because she was a fan. I don't support pedophiles I don't care how talented you are. Molestation ruins a child's life forever.
I don't believe the part about being curious and buying his music to hear the lyrics. You can do that for free on RU-vid. What happened was all of his supporters started buying his music on Spotify
Hafsa Umm Zakai- you don’t buy music on Spotify. If you have Spotify premium, you can just play anything without any cost to you and I’ve never thought about how when I play things on it, the people are getting money from it.
He was abused as a child and like so many who’ve experienced abuse he became the abuser. Instead of using his platform to help others with the same past or even protecting his children and wife he used his power to control and abuse. He needs help and to be locked up why is he still getting away with this?
He was abused and that is terribly unfortunate, but he has been caught multiple times and has taken it to a level where he literally has a cult of women, most people once they are caught that is their cry for help and they feel relieved. I remember being a teen about 16 or 17 and seeing that video with the 14 year old. Not completely understanding the severity of the situation. This was long before social media and the types of child porn laws they have now. Peeing in the mouth of a 14 year old is beyond being abused, this man is a deviant. He has allowed his demons to take over and doesn't want help.
I think that's another reason people need to have zero tolerance for lies. When my mom would clean she would became irrational and violent. I guess she became part of a cycle herself. The situation wasn't even , oh you're making a mess when I just cleaned, spank. It was.."you cleaned this slightly wrong" dun dun dun. BUT, at least she was honest, and had the balls to admit it's wrong and apologize. And when you do something That wrong it is extremely difficult to admit it. Because of her explaining that it isn't ok and talking about it; I really do believe that's why I was able to break the cycle. So at least she played a role in protecting her grandchildren from the cycle. (And, at least I only suffered the cycle of Physical abuse, sexual abuse is such a much more awful thing). Teach boys to respect women by not hitting others or tolerating yourself to be hit either. (I don't think the guys around him had much respect for women considering).
he first needed help when he got abuse, apparently he did not get the appropriate help.. same thing when people suicide from depression.. Hopefully they start some legal action against him and then he could get some help while serving time. so we can move on to bigger issue.. Honestly, this is not news at some ppoints
Well actually women and girls have always made up the majority of of rape/sexual abuse/sexual assault if what you said was true , it would mean that at a certain point in history , most sexual offenders/rapist would have been women and most victims , men and boys which never EVER happen on planet earth so...
I feel like a lot of these victims had neglectful parents. And they all knew what he was like in the 90s but they just didn’t care enough because they were money hungry and wanted a shot in the industry... hold those parents responsible and if the girls were over 18, hold them responsible too
Lexie M incorrect, The federal law establishes the age of 12 as the minimum age of consent, while the age at which there are no restrictions for consensual sexual activities is 18 (sex with someone 12-18 is not illegal per se, but can still be open to prosecution under certain circumstances). Look up “age of consent” and this is what you’ll find.
And that's what one of the victims said, when she first meet him he asked her all these questions about her childhood and her parents/family and so on. He preys on young girls who are vulnerable and some coming from broken homes.
Electra Jolie well maybe you need to gather more facts about a situation before you go spouting off biased information. What helicopter parent that you know would let you UNDERAGE daughter do ANYTHING with a man that had his reputation. Use your brain please.
Funny them females was crying and etc but kept going back to him multiple times. One of the females was seen shopping with him and another was front row at his concert last year. Them girls was old enough to leave and old enough to know right from wrong. Only victims in that is the 14 year old and aalyiah sorry but not sorry. He is definitely wrong but he ain't the only one to blame. Blame his sister for starting the cycle, blame the people around him for feeding fuel to the fire, blame these girl's parents, hell we all know it's fast teenage girls in the world but it ain't no excuse but they was willing to lay down with him which was wrong period
I think people just want to know who he was talking about in the songs since specific songs were about specific women and their stories. i.e. you are not alone by Michael Jackson being about the woman who got pregnant by R. Kelly but had a miscarriage.
Ok here’s my thing right : I think people sometimes really do have an issue with letting go/ separating the artist from their artist... but for me I can’t support just one aspect because to me if you support his music then you suppprt HIM & the things that he is supposedly doing ! And I cannot respect or be friends with a person who would rather shy away from the fact that there is literally EVIDENCE of him dating / marrying younger girls... for instance him and Aaliyah ( may she Rest In Peace ❤️🙏🏾) she was 15 & he was 27... why couldn’t he date a WOMAN not a young girl ! It’s like he preys on these girls just to attack
Myronn Coleman that is where his mental growth stops and why he can’t connect with a woman his age. Allegedly he went through some trauma as a child and when you’re introduced to something traumatic at a young age your can’t process it correctly so your mental growth is stunted. I don’t agree at all with what he has done, I’m just why he allegedly did those things. Also you tend to repeat what you learned as child in your adulthood.
it only works if they ban his music online.. You cant stop somebody that got through some serious problems with his music to stop liking "The Music". He i the king of RnB (I am not a fan of his music but he got Hits on Hits) R kelly was abused as a child so of course nothing of what he did is good or understandable but the roots of the problem is in his childhood which he has nothing to do with it. Of course he could have done better growing up but sometime you don't get back from being traumatized as a child or do not get the appropriate help, Therefore others pays the consequences.
@ifabulocitygirl Well killing and raping is not the same .We have people that still support Nazi's and Kkk and you're suprised about what world do you live in?
Myronn Coleman In a lot of cultures that normal, and happens all the time. Younger girls marry older men. And in many parts of the Unites States it legal and age of consent is 16/17. In HS a lot of my 17year friends had boyfriends in there 20s. So that is another reason is normal to some folks.
My take in it *people are gonna support whoever they want to despite what they have done. R.Kelly is no different. It just boils down to a person's character.* Look at trump he said all those nasty things about Mexican people and muslims and I'm neither but because my character I chose not to support him. George Zimmerman killed Trayvon Martin I seen pictures of disgusting people getting Arizona tea cans and skittles signed by him. So with R.Kelly it's no different. Most times people will never care about what a person does until it affects them or someone close. There is something off about this R.Kelly situation because how is he not in jail after all this. I've seen comments saying on Twitter and here that it's a distraction from the government shut down. Idk I'm always open to theories tho but I don't too much believe that one, but at the same time us common people will truly never know what goes on in the government or music industry or Hollywood
So true about people not caring until it affects them or someone close which is honestly sad. It shouldn’t take something especially something like this happening close to home for people to care about the young girls who were and are still being affected by this. Also I’ve heard the conspiracy about the shut down but the government shut down is still being talked about nationally in addition to R. Kelly. Commentary and elements surrounding the shutdown haven’t been put on the back burner bc of the R. Kelly thing. It just depends on where you watch your news bc some news reporting shows and sites are more likely to talk about news concerning entertainment arts as opposed to politics and vice versa.
To be 100% Real about it.... I wanted to look up his music so I could hear his lyrics now with open eyes to what he has done.... my fav song by him is “seems like your ready” I did not listen to the song again itself but I did look up lyrics on google. I think many of people just wanted to hear his music now knowing what we do about him. Not to jam along but to hear it in a different light now. I resisted looking up the songs an actually listening but I did look at lyrics. I don’t want jada to think we don’t care about ebony sisters. It’s just curiosity that is making us want to look up our old fav songs. I feel terrible for all those years was loving those songs. An very hurt knowing the lyrics were truth to his actions . It’s like a slap in the face to us female fans we were supporting a pedo all these years
Jeannie needs her own show to empower women. Everytime she opens her mouth, WISDOM comes out of it. "we are being lazy, we're not being responsible". That right there is a whole SERMON. We need more women like Jeannie in this world.
people should be mad at many more folks in Hollywood. BE REAL! As your show is. So many ppl have dirt that's covered up nicely. You guys are just talking about him bcus you guys don't have other men or women exposed.
D Shut the hell up. You know nothing about me. I’m entitled to my opinions just like you are. How insecure you must be trying to play the race card just because you don’t agree. Girl, 👋🏻
D Like I said you don’t know sh*t. Go sit you’re ignorant a** in a corner and take a time out. What evidence? Just because they make a bogus docuseries doesn’t mean it’s evidence. If it was evidence why are the criminal authority begging and pleading for others to call in. Why??? They are thirsty and don’t have anything on him. What do you think is going to happen when you sell your soul for money and fame. How about #getafclue
This isn’t a Lifetime movies based on a real story it’s a Docu-Series. Look at the facts and do your own research of you don’t believe Lifetime to be a credible source.
Why now did you decide too boo R Kellys music?... Because of a docuseries of women who are alleging a variety of abuse...COME ON!... People knew what R Kelly was from his marriage to the underage singer and from his tape of abuse to a 14 yr old girl which was many many years ago...but because he was aquitted when everyone knew he was guilty ..people went on supporting him in various ways...the docuseries was a little far fetched to me...im not saying these women were not abused..but not one of them was held against her will...and not one of them pressed criminal charges..they are saying they are coming out now in hopes of saving another young woman😒... Pressing criminal charges long ago may have saved many women...there is a much bigger picture and motive here...
Honestly, realising the truth of what was going on I think people were like A. Just wanting to rehear those lyrics and find the clues or not so subtle links to what he was doing. It’s a sad sad situation. It’s not about colour it’s about power. There are many men that are rich or have some type of social status (not just celebs but in all walks of life) that secretly take advantage of their influence on others. It’s disgusting and they need to finally face the real consequences of their gross actions.
I have a hard time separating the art from the artist. I like a couple of R Kelly songs, chris Brown's songs, I used to love the Cosby Show. How do I go from enjoying those things to disliking them? Should the art and artist be separate or should I see them as one?
@@OnlyHim7 I still have a hard time separating them. Do we need to look up everything an artist has done and stands for before deciding if you like the art?
Personally I feel I can't really separate the two as his art is a reflection of him. Alot of his imagery and lyrics reflected his lifestyle therefore I find it extremely difficult to listen and not feel disturbed by the inspiration behind it. It's as if he was literally retelling his private life stories through music in order to share with us and create memories for himself.
Everyone knows who r Kelly is and his music. His sales went up because of his fans. I feel the documentary failed because they failed to get one person who said yo I never wanted to be with him or anything from him. Every person said they had their own intentions and I'm not saying that that makes it ok but it does make it hard to call it rape. I feel that r Kelly needs help. He had been having sex since he was 6. I mean think about it. The first thing you learn about a girl is she likes sex? His own family got time to teach him how to hump but not to read. And the ppl he trusted to help him like his manager to over come his issue decided to put his niece (Aaliyah) in his face and said work with her. Like r Kelly may be sick but those around him are just as wrong. And all I'm saying is he needs Jesus 😇. I wish more ppl would pray for his healing so that less victims would occur. And pray for the victims too so that they don't turn predator
the fact that his wife who struggled through this (on Hollywood-Exes) trying to protect her kids finally came out to talk proves it's not just an allegation, He is a bad man.
Y'all have been making R Kelly jokes all these years though... We've just been laughing it off. There's no where to go from here. We let him continue. We failed.
How does not listening to his music serve a purpose tho 🤔 I genuinely wanna how does it make wat happened better. These things are already and stopping his music now doesn't change a thing about the past. And Wat about the people he featured and produced for and wrote for are they cancelled too. Cause if u gonna be technical they enabled his behaviour especially post the sex tape and marriage to Aliyah. Anyway my 2 cents on it.
I truly do not know how you or anybody else can be comfortable and listening or dancing to his music knowing what those lyrics mean knowing what he has done and still doing; knowing he is telling his story the bump and grind with these young little girls. how can you dance and not have that images in your head or are you that self-centered and don't care enough about those young little girls?
