The 64-67 Pontiac GTOs are by far the Best GTOs out there and they're by far much better looking than the rebadged Holden Monaro GTOs.

My father had a 67 ordered with the Hurst His & Hers so my mom could learn to drive. He designated me as her instructor when I was 13 years old because I could already drive a manual pickup. My mom took to it quite well despite her nervousness. The 67 GTO was a comfortable solid car with lots of go. Given a choice if money was no object it would be my choice over any car of the muscle era. My father traded it in for a 1970 Ram Air Judge which unfortunately didn't meet the standard of the 67.

I borrowed a '66 rag top from a friend of my Dad's for my Jr prom. Great warm Iowa April night, top down with the music on and spent most of the night cruising rather than at the actual dance.

Incredible to still have a family car. You a lucky guy. Early nineties I worked with a guy whose dad gave him his Hemi GTX that he bought new. The guy sold it for 25K, car was advertised for 42K a few weeks later. Later the guy lamenting that both the money and the car were gone.

WOW! My granddad was a Pontiac dealer in the 60s, he'd use me as a showroom floor selling prop on Saturdays- I was 5-8 years old and would sit in the GTO (and Firebird) going "Vroom, vroom vroom!" It worked!

I owned a 66 and a 67 GTO, the 67 was an HO car, and it would fly, the torque the engine produced was something, I never got beat off the starting line by a camaro, or mustang, but for some reason that car would eat ignition points like candy, I always carried a couple of sets in the glove box with a dwell meter and a flex shaft points hex tool :-)

As the proud owner of a '67 Chevelle SS 396 convertible I love the GM muscle cars from 1964 to 1972. I've been mostly a Chevy guy my whole life but I've had a few Pontiacs along the way. My first car was a '68 Firebird 400 convertible, butternut yellow with a 4 speed. Then an '85 Trans Am 5 speed with T-tops. My last one an '88 Pontiac Fiero Formula. I've also owned 3 IROC-Z's a C5 Corvette convertible and my current ride 2012 Camaro RS with a six speed.

My dear ol Dad had 2 GTO's in his day he loved them so much. His 66 was the tri- power and the 67 was the ram air 400. Both were 4 speed. He would lay a dollar bill up on the dash and tell me it was mine if I could reach and get it when he was going through the gears. I never did get that dollar either.

The ‘64 was the only one in the GTO run to be specifically designed by Pontiac engineers to dominate racing.A few of these were independently campaigned in various racing sanctions,including SCCA.They were low,lean,and mean machines.The ‘64 was the original,the hardest to find,and the greatest.

Handing package on GTO? John Delorian considered sway bars too switchy. It was Oldsmobile that had front and rear sway bars on their 442, and was the most balanced. Pontiac did start to have handling in their cars until Herb Adams started working in the 70's Trans Am.

I remember-------> in 1967 (I was 14) my older brother had a 1964 GTO, (389 four speed factory) it was a beat up car when he got it, the four speed had been replaced by a three speed trans, and some fool had heated the rear springs so the car would sit lower in the back, I remember to this day that the car had four different tires on it, (one on the back was a racing slick) my brother continued to beat the car to death, he wrecked it (totaled it in 1968?). My brother didn't care about cars, all he wanted was something to get him to the next Bar.

Pontiac was first to the muscle car party
@jeremythompson9122
@jeremythompson9122 4 года назад
Really the first high performance Pontiac's were the fuel injected 57 Bonneville's. The 347 V8 with the 3x2 bbl Tri Power setup was also available across the entire Pontiac lineup in 57. My grandfather always told me that the Tri Power Pontiac's were the fastest cars on the street in the years between about 1957 and 1962. By 1962 the 413 Max Wedge Mopar's, the 409 Chevy's, and the 406 Ford Galaxie's were all on the scene to compete with the 389/421 powered Pontiac's. The 64 GTO often gets credited as being the first muscle car but really the 55 Chrysler 300 was the first and also the first regular production American sedan to carry a 300 horsepower factory rating. Pontiac first came out with the Tri Power option in 1957 because the Hemi powered 1955-56 Chrysler 300 and 56 Dodge D-500 had completely laid waste to the competition during the 1955-56 NASCAR seasons. But by 1957 both Ford and GM finally had built some cars that could compete with the high powered Mopar's

I luckily graduated in 1964 and as such was entitled (that might be a little strong)or at least that what folks did for guys who found themselves graduating in 1964, they gave their boys a car of their choosing and of course the GTO was all the rage that years and for many more) it was a great car and I get through my Air Force days driving it through the South, the northeast and finally out west as well. I still miss that car a lot. Not sure I would ever buy one as they were real down to earth “gas hogs” but they were sweet cars to drive and turned heads endlessly, which back then was a must.

Just 2 years ago You could have gotten a 67 GTO for 20 grand Today 50 grand Without numbers matching, Now you have numbers matching body off restoration 100 to 120 grand, The problem is unless garage kept And not driven in the elements You were OK Except for people that could not handle the cars Power, The technology in those years could not keep the weather out Resulting in rust In most cases as early as 5 years at these prices your buying art Temperature controlled garages Sunny day driving And car shows ,ENJOY ! : Note in my years I've owned 67GT0 68GT0 70GTO 72 TRANS AM 66 OLDS 442 69 GRAND PRIX 428 police special Is my favorite 72 Grand Prix last Muscle car Until the 1986 tram am Show room Bought black gold bird gold Honeycomb wheels gold cloth interior tee tops fully loaded , Fun cars to have had in those days !

Sadly due to the BABVVO laws from 2030 on all combustion cars including classics will be banned from public streets in entire EU and Scandinavia :-( In Germany the Green Peoples Party gave order to shorten fuel supply from 2025 on by reducing all conventional fuel stations to only one state operated central gas station per city or county. Now they want to slow down all the gas station fuel pumps from 20 litre per minute to 2 litre per minute...From 2027 on in the EU certain car spare parts will be banned too....as exhaust systems, turbo chargers and even some engine and gearbox oils...California and New York will do the same from 2027 on.... So no investments should be done in oil burning cars any longer....They even created a new kind of crime here, called emissions and smoke crime :-(//=()()//()/()/=(

I don't get the attraction to that car. Like most American cars back then It looks like it was made for people with disproportionately long upper torsos and BIG HEADS. The symmetry is way off and the car is just plain ugly like most American cars back then.
