This is not a story about sunny beaches and coconuts, rather wool caps and mittens. Part 1. From Manger to Bergen and out to the north sea, with a short "prelude". Bought a boat in Norway 2014, Naver 29 (29 ft) and sailed it to Iceland the next year.

I was very supprised to see this Naver 29 on youtube. I owned this Naver for about 12 years. I sold the boat in 2004. Originally the boat is yellow, but I painted it blue. My wife renewed the cushions. And according the pictures they are still in good shape:-)

The cushions are in good shape. She did a great job. Í painted the boat last year light blue. The dark blue collor was better so maybe i will change it back. Not to yellow though.

I had a Naver 29 myself (still have it). Well build, fast and sturdy. If I had no other plans I would keep her.

Hi, seen your sailing video's and like them a lot. Yes the Naver is stiff and sturdy. Suits me well and the condition here. Sailing plans or just life ?

Sailing plans :-) Got me a Bavaria 390 and will set sail in about 15 months time. While exploring the world, someone else will keep an eye on my Naver 29. And to be honest, I wouldn't dare to sail the Naver 29 across the Atlantic if she only had a bit more space for sailing and living comfortable enough long time.

Congratulation. Bavaria is a German design at its finest. Beautiful sailboat, well built with lot of comfort. To tell you the truth my Naver is on sale. I am looking for something in the 32-34 ft. range. Want to sail further-also crossing the Atlantic in few years time (or sooner). Caribbean and then to the arctic hopefully. If I don't sell then the Naver will have to do. Safe although as you say lacks comfort as newer/bigger boats. Hopefully you will record your travel for us couch-sailors. Safe sailing!

Thanks mate and good luck selling your boat. It's always good to have videos around about that type of boat. Helps a lot in building confidence. Your video of course does! I'll keep watching your channel to see further progress :-)

Thank you for watching and the encouragement. My movie maker has quit on me. Don't go well with windows 10 it seems ;)

Enjoyed your videos. I am interested in buying a Naver 29 but there is limited info available online. Wonder if you could give me an idea about the sailing properties of the boat and any isssues I should look out for. Looking to sail the Med with only 2 crew aboard. Many thanks

Thank you Steve. Well the Naver is stiff and sturdy and sails well in all wind condition. It is not the fastest boat although it won some races in the 1/2 ton class in Norway and Denmark when it was first introduced. It's a safe boat and keeps you dry. Only thing that bothered me was that the front cabin is narrow and really not for sleeping but rather to store things. Also its not much room from the floorboards to the "keel "so you can't really put a bilge pump there, but water will gather to the lowest point. I would not use a 150% genua. Just gets in the way when tacking. Rather 130%. The reputation of the boat s good and my experience also. In Reykjavík Iceland you sail in Faxaflói bay. Its wide and open to the Atlantic ocean so the waves gets big and it is a windy place. Never had problems with the boat. I am 177 cm and the headroom is about 185 cm. That is an issue. For longer trips it is vital to have a standing headroom. What to look out for!? Well just common sense. I would look at the rigging, the keel bolts and that the engine is in good shape. Cosmetic problems are often easy to fix. The Naver is good but if you are looking for Scandinavian boats in similar price and size range I would also look at Albin Ballad for example. Lot of good boats for favorable price in Norway and Sweden. Denmark a little more expensive. Hope this helps.

@@poeiceland1790 Many thanks for taking the time to reply. Your feedback helps me making my decision. The boat in question is in Crete and I am in the UK so I cannot just pop over to checkout the boat, so feedback is most helpful. Best regards Fair winds and keep safe
