I'm confused you calling merle Mm and merle carrier Mm...... are you calling carrier and visual the same thing what do you mean when you say carrier because typically a carrier is a dog that carries a gene but do not visual show it

Like I just got a mwrle and a blue. The woman said the blues grandfather was a merle but it's fine to breed them and now it finding out it's not fine to breed the merle and blue because of some cryptic merle gene and now I have two dogs (that I love) that I probably can't breed because I was told the wrong information by the breeders. Thr dog is a solid solid blue color not even any white in it and the male is a merle for sure but this just ruined things for me i think. Can anyone answer please 🙏
Almost all pups that have a merle parent but I’m not visibly Merel do not have the Merle gene and can be safely bred to another Merle without any bad consequences just a few of those non-visual merles are cryptic but those dogs can also be bred back to a Merle safely too And the only way to know if you have a cryptic moral is to do a DNA test
I'm so lost on how I got a fawn pup from a breeder who bred a merle with a brindle. When you say you do not get a fawn from a brindle. Does that mean my fawn may just be merle and I don't see it?

question, i had my male tested and he say he have a copy of merle then the number n/268 but he visually do not show merle anywhere eyes ears coat nothing test was done at UC DAVIS he is a cream so he carries 2 copies if cream one copy of blue one copy of intensity now is it possible that the 2 copies of cream is hiding the merle visual gene it's not one copy but 2 e1/e1 cream gene an having the intensity gene do not help much far as expressing it? that's first question second if he is merle can i breed it out of him in his next litter so it can show with a non cream dog i would think an a dog that do not have the intensity would i get visual pups or did UC DAVIS make a mistake thanks for the video i like an been subscribe you i watch them all good videos
How do you know if you have a cryptic merle ? I have a full cream that has a copy of merle dna test from animal genetics , shows very very little merle to no merle , no splotches but a little color change on his back. Is he a Cryptic ?

Hi my merle dog is the same, I think it just depends on where you get the test done do M is Merle and n is the second gene non merle, so it's not a double merle.
Thank you a lot I have a cryptic moral Murray female her father was hegazig's Harlequin double, He had all the bad jeans to it so the breeder that I got my female off of he brought it back to AM staff Coby doll low quality staff ashire but she produced a try points on a female, It was a litter of 13 it was only 4 females 1 female die I needed to know that because this dog shows the Gray on one side to the other side and black of underwear, So you can tell that she is of a double Is Merle because Harlequin.

My female is mostly all white she has a little black spots around both eyes thag about jt (I know I need to get her color tested to see exactly what she is ) I want to breed w a Merle is there a good chance to have Merle pups ? They range the merle count up to 280, my stud has a rating of 266/280, if he was 4 higher, a 270/280, he would move from M to MH (merle harlequin). “In brief, eumelanic dogs with two copies of smaller allele sizes (lower numbers) display little to no merle pattern often referred to as "cryptic merle". Eumelanic dogs with 1 or 2 copies of larger alleles (higher numbers) are expected to display the merle pattern. Eumelanic dogs with one or two copies of the highest numbers (~270-280) display a dramatic dilution/white pattern referred to as harlequin.” -UC Davis (where I got my studs merle count)
Kind of like how a square is a rectangle but a rectangle is not a square. Every Merle is a merle carrier however, you cannot carry merle without showing it, unless it is cryptic, which is a whole different gene.

Side note : the female isn’t Merle and the male isn’t Merle but they both each had one parent that was Merle so I’m curious to know if I’ll get a Merle considering the two bred aren’t Merle
Remember that Merel is always a single coffee so a dog that is Mauro will produce on average half merles and a half not the puppies that are produced to aunt Merel will have no more jeans and then constantly will not produce more puppies
Let’s try that again merle Dogs have a single copy of Merle so half of the litter will get the mole Jean and the other half won’t the non-merle puppies will have no more water ever and will not be able to produce merles
The two I bred had a parent each that were Merle but the two I bred aren’t Merle, I’m asking will the two non Merle produce Merle even though they both have a single copy of the Merle gene ?
@FireOfficerBraman so cryptic merle are merle carriers that don't display a merle pattern. This is just all confusing to me. Like it can only be a merle if it looks like a merle but it can also not look like a merle but still have the merle gene but it can also be a merle parent and only half get the merle gene the other half don't unless it's a cryptic "hidden nine displaying gene" but it can only carry the gene if it displays it. It's a confusing circle to me. Like how can you (not you but in general) say it can't or won't have the merle gene if it doesn't show merle physically but wait oh yes it can have the merle gene it snuck in but it doesn't show. So I can think I have a full say blue or chocolate dog because it doesn't show merle but there is a possibility it had merle in it because one of the parents or grandparents or whoever thet passed the gene down was a merle. But physically visually you can't have a merle because it doesn't display so I breed my dog to a merle and oops now you have a % chance to breed deaf and blind puppies. Whew sorry for the rant this stuff is just driving me crazy lol
