This video is designed to give a basic and thorough overview of the Moog DFAM (Drummer from another Mother). The DFAM is a complex, yet simple, percussive synth that can be very hard to get the hang of. This series breaks down the complexities of the DFAM into small and manageable chunks. By the end of the series, you'll have a strong understanding of each part of the DFAM and how it contributes to the overall sound as well as how it interacts with the other parts. Additionally, the videos will cover how to use the patchbay and give helpful pairing tips so you can build your own DFAM patches.
As a bonus - there are some videos on building patches from scratch and videos covering completed patches for you to use.
There are more resources on my Patreon Page including a full color eBook of DFAM patches with links to tutorial videos. The eBook will be updated regularly with new patches and tips.

Thank you. Amazing guide and tutorial. I learned a lot from you. Day 3, I made a natural snare sound, which worked fine for a small record 🙏🌸🍻🎹

MAFD is a wonderful addition. And is always better than or! Can pendulum and run in reverse with MAFD, too. Plus, you get some CCs for additional mod sources.

Amazing series, thanks soo much, learnt loads. MAFD is total game changer I’d say. It’s a bit expensive but well worth it. I’m super happy I bought it, I use a Deluge to sequence the mafd/dfam like a drum machine using midi, works splendidly well. You also get access to probability that way. You also get aftertouch so that can be programmed and sent to the dfam patchbay, opening up loads of possibilities.

Thanks! Yeah. I've been debating getting a MAFD for awhile... Might get one soon.

Beatstep pro is a brilliant partner to the DFAM - can do trigger sequences and pitched sequences, and can act as a midi to cv converter

I think you make a good point The dfam is unique because of the design I've been tempted to add on but at the end of the dsybIm with you on this one

Yeah, I think I'm staying away. I might look into some other type of drum module or something, but I still think it's unique design makes it special.

thanks, its been very you know getting in to the analog world, its the most basic instrument of moog and it inspire you to make the unusual things you do not make with the MASCHINE im still studying the mother and the sub harmonicon, now its time consuming , it makes the guitars lonely in their sad corner but as sad as it is I will go back to them my idea is to get a stractural base to get more added using cubase , analog is not as versital as using digital tools that can sync automaticly , but ironicly it makes its own persona in somewat give its human like added taste,it sound crazy but in this new AI era that like a politician tells you what you expect it does the opposite and tells you the annoying and disturbing uncontrolable sound

The DFAM thing is great if you want to get out of 4/4!! Barely used any of the other functionality so far even though I’ve had it for quite a few months
@braintree56

Yeah, that's definitely one reason to get it! I saw on the Moog website that there is a way to skip steps so you could play sequences with fewer than 8 steps - however - it doesn't appear to be perfect timing... I think DfAM thing or MAFD is the way to go for this type of thing.

the Reset for DFAM is a fantastic option in my opinion vs the Midi adapters. most simple option and can let you reset the dfam mid sequence for more interesting longer sequences. Granted I am using my DFAM in a 4tier so I have the extra HP to accompany. I really wish they made the MAFD adapter work on the 3 tier stand
