-Recording "Creatures Of The Night" and getting Heavy again -Ace leaves, Vinnie joins -Bill Aucoin gone Taken from: Gene Simmons - Kiss and Make Up Paul Stanley - Face the Music: A Life Exposed
He was awesome live on this tour too, creatures was my first concert ever. I was disappointed though only because I was always a huge ace fan. I was a kid. I was looking forward to going and seeing him. When I got to the show I saw all of the tour shirts with Connie, I didn’t know who that was, no one did.. no one knew ace left yet. That was the only let down. The place was half empty, Vinnie played well, the solo was way too long and idk he just didn’t feel right. Funny how all the churches in West Virginia were outside passing out bibles and protesting. Great memories though for a kid
I was 14 and when I got Creatures I didn’t know what to expect. I was surprised! Powerful songs and POWERFUL DRUMS! Thunder from Eric Carr. Eric will never get his due. He was a incredible player.
It did! You have a French name, You are a disgrace for the Las Vegas of Canada-Montreal the all time Metal Capital of Metal! When that album came out,Montreal was the only venue sold out-Forum. You should fucking remember that or you are no real frog but a squarehead.
@@patrickmoreau7592 I never said it was the centre of the world. Please use my words only. Europe is the main platform for Metal and music in general. Internet have killed that magic and mystery. Back in the heydays we were just happy to see them in 3 dimensions,,,when a band came to town. Now you have the drama, the human sides, ect of them at one click away. All best.
Hey Kiss Diaries- I’ve really enjoyed this series you put together combining audio from Paul and Gene’s audiobooks! Great idea and fantastic coordinating of the tales. Keep on rockin!
@@kissdiaries no thank you so much. All of the videos are very good. Especially the 10 part Playlist with the animation is just fantastic. One of those shows in Australia i was present. Eric Carr and no Peter. Ace ended up pushing the drum platform back Eric was on......anyway time to subscribe and again thank you :)
I was sure glad they came to my small city, ON MY BIRTHDAY no less, with the awesome Plasmatics opening, easily the best birthday I'll ever have! I missed being able to see them a few years earlier, in their peak, on the Love Gun / Alive II tour, because my parents thought I was too young, still but I'm sure glad this kind of made up for it, later though I still wish I could've seen the other tour, too!
My favourite KISS album. I wished this was Eric’s debut album instead of the elder because his drumming was great on this and I think if KISS went straight to making Creatures instead of the elder than it would’ve been more successful at the time.
Creatures is an Excellent Album that stood up the time. Still remember the excitement when I brought it home and dropped the needle. It was hard and heavy no compromise. Big respect to Paul that he kept the War Machine rolling in the hard times.
How did everyone not know how absolutely awesome Creatures was at the time? "I Still Love You" might be the most perfect power ballad of all time, if it wasn't for "A Million To One", that is... And the harder songs are so "metal" for these guys. The Vinnie lineup, regardless of Paul's "interpretation", is the most potent and talented iteration of the band. They had more energy and just pounded out those double-bass riffs when Vinnie was there than anyone else. And seriously, this is KISS we're talking about. Don't you think they had other choices than Vinnie? If Paul said he didn't want him, they wouldn't have had him. They loved what he brought to the table. They just didn't like "him". Vinnie made them better. Regardless of his personality flaws, he made them a better, more relevant band. Paul throws all 3 of them under the bus nearly every time he mentions their names. Gene a little bit, as well. Pete did nothing if not instigate. So his version is unreliable sometimes. Ace usually keeps it clean about insulting anyone else in the band. He will do it. But not as a rule, the way Paul does. Loved these guys, if you can't tell. All the way until the "imposter" years... Vinnie rocked. 🤘
Creatures wasn't accepted as one of the bands best works when it was released because by that time in their history hardcore fans had abandoned them after the Unmasked album and the teeny-bopper fans they amassed upon releasing Dynasty deserted them upon the release of The Elder. Save for a few diehard fans, Kiss' entire fanbase had dwindled down to nothing by the time Creatures was released, which explains why the album performed so poorly and their U.S. tour lost money. Had that album come out following Dynasty it would have been praised for being ground-breaking and ahead of its time. However, when it was released Creatures sounded like a lot of contemporary rock albums of the day. Thus, there was nothing about it that set the band apart from Ozzy, Motley Crue, Dio, Quiet Riot, Dokken, etc. It wasn't until after they removed the makeup the band received recognition again, but by that time they had become just another 80's hair band.
This piece just sugar coats the era. Kiss business manager Chris Lendt certainly captured the accurate pulse of the Creatures era in his book “Kiss and Sell” This book is truly telling…
Original line up most magical, love every member in the history of the band but the original line up and Carr and Vincent was my second favorite line up.
Creatures Of The Night! What an exciting time on KISStory. It became and remained my all time favorite KISS album! Its thunderously heavy drumming by Eric Carr with incredible songwriting by Paul and Gene and ultra powerful vocals, along with chainsaw sounding guitar work by Vinnie, and several special guests like Steve Farris and Robben Ford.
I didn't even know Slash from GNR was trying out for the lead guitar position during the COTN era. Another interesting fact that Bruce Kulick was trying to get the position during this era. But, he didn't get it and two years later he will get the position after the whole Mark St. John situation.
I remember rushing home after getting my copy of COTN from "Penguin Feather Records & Tapes" in Annandale VA!! I remember thinking, "Man!! I've never heard ACE play like that! He is in amazing form!" Can you imagine my disillusionment when I found out that a number of different players did the Lead Guitar! It wasn't until February of 1983 that I saw a small note in Guitar Player that KISS had a new Lead Guitarist! Then I looked at the writing credits on some of the songs and realized that "Vincent Cusano" was the new member Vinnie Vincent!
He’s actually on it. Just some light rhythm guitar. Some recording session notes were uncovered proving he was there. Just another lie by Gene and Paul.
Look, V V was fkd up, yes, but so was Ace! People wouldve said similar bad things about Ace, too.. Paul talked all kinds of shit on Ace.. but they just couldnt tolerate the new guy being as weird as Ace
Not to piss of the KISS purists, but KISS with Eric & Vinnie in makeup was just as good as Ace & Peter!! It's kinda strange how Ace is my all-time favorite KISS member, but once he left and they did Creatures, it was my favorite KISS album of all time because it was so damn heavy. It sounded like KISS always should of sounded compared to their look.
The Eric/Vinnie line up was totally bad ass. Vinnie was hands down the baddest kiss guitarist. St. John and Kulick were really good. But Vinnie ruled them. All the solos were phrased amazingly let alone the writing he brought to the table.
With Vinnie the vibe was off. You can even see it their live performances, Paul really hated the dude 🤣🤣🤣🤣 His energy was not the same on stage with Vinnie beside him 😆😆😆 They had better chemistry with Eric and Bruce as the line up. Bruce like Eric had 0 ego so that works for better for the egomaniacs Gene and Paul 😂😂😂
U know I love Gene and Paul but it's kind of strange how everyone they work or have worked with has been torture to them but what if it's not everybody else maybe they're just kinda difficult to get along with. That always striked me when they say it was miserable working with this person that person but it can't always be the other person or persons. Maybe Gene and Paul are not the easiest guys to get along with somehow.
They don’t say it was torturous to work with Bruce Kulick or Tommy Thayer or Eric Singer in fact there’s been quite a few people that have said that VV was not easy to deal with not just Gene and Paul
Gene and Paul are all about money. They bellyache over and over about Peter and Ace. Yet they had every opportunity to not have them in the band. Vinnie also posed problems but they didn’t want to lose money by delaying the album and tour.
Well, what can I say about 'Creatures', except wow, what a departure from the previous album, the "infamous" Elder album. ( which by the way, I actually thought was pretty good). Songs like War Machine, I Love it Loud and the title track would go on to become favorites of the "KISS ARMY". I'm not really sure why the album didn't sell better than it did. One of the heaviest Kiss albums they've done, along with Hotter Than He'll and the much later release, Revenge.
I'm sorry for my ignorance here, but the Canadian musician Gene says who was brought in to help with Creatures...'Bryan Adams'....could this possibly be the same man as, 'Cuts like knife', 'Run to you', 'Everything I do, I do it for you'.....?
The picture on the left, you wonder when KISS had a woman in the band. The picture on the right fixes the picture on the left. Like waking from a bad dream. Sorry, Ace was basically the face of KISS.
Creatures incredible, solid album! They should have think things through and go back to touring clubs for Creatures. Would have felt and sounded much better selling out those again instead of empty arenas I find.
Gene and Paul hirer two talented but difficult to work with guitarists in a row. They turned down other people who were great musicians but "weren't the right fit". At some point it's kind of their fault. Also Creatures is one of their best albums and deserved way more popularity but they were damaged goods after the Elder.
Guitar auditions for Kiss? In California/ NY (??) Wherever.. and VV was the best choice, even though he was too skinny and small and didn't fit the image?? Why hire him then. Guitarists are like a nickel a baker's dozen at that time. WTH Gene.
thats what I dont get ,............... LA early 80s .........and you cant find a lead guitarist that wants in KISS , mindblowing. so u settle for someone who is stubborn, you dont like his solos, wont cooperate etc etc etc.
It's odd how Gene n Paul cling to the Creatures album. During the 80s they played more off it than they played their current album they were actually touring for. Creatures is okay, mostly bland music with laughable lyrics that reek of desperation. Danger, war machine, killer,,,,,lol really guys. Paul going on bout how he lives on edge is so fake
