When you said “leave your lids shut” I thought you said “leave your legs shut” 😂 I was like ok we’re doing life lessons now lol but very informative video. I appreciate it
It's been a month since I put the seeds to germinate. I did get a good germination rate. I was growing impatient on them, as they don't show any visible growth. Thanks to your video in which I hv learnt that patience is the only thing required. Really liked your video, looking forward to the updates.
I ordered seeds on January 12th and I'm patiently waiting for them to get here so I can start them! I didn't have great success the first time around with echeverias, but I'm confident that I will have better luck now with all the information you have shared. I have a couple dozen sempervivums that I started from seed that are doing fantastic though - I have found that they grow much quicker and are a bit more resilient than echeveria seeds! Would love to see an update video on your succulent collection!
Just stumbled upon the first part and now I'm here. I don't even like succulents. But my best friend does, so I will learn and maybe have plant gifts for her help from this series
When you get them you will probably forget you even ordered them 😂 it took so long when I got the package I was super suspicious of what on earth was coming to me from Serbia hahah
Thank you for these videos! I have such a hard time finding good resources for growing from seed and you cover so many topics here. I have a few questions and I'd love your thoughts: 1. If you do discover some fungus in your seedling tray (say you maybe didn't sterilize the soil perhaps...), what can you use to manage it? Have tried both cinnamon and adding a small amount of 3% H2O2 to my water. H2O2 seems to be better but I might be imagining it. 2. How close together can you place the seeds in the potting medium? 3. Have you grown sempervivums from seed? I've had very low germination rates for them and have heard sometimes you need to leave them in the cold for a while and try again if they don't sprout.
oh also! if you guys open the lid for your seeds and let stand for 10 mins or so it really helps w fungus and algae. check the soil and then put the lid back on.
Thank you so much for these videos! I found your channel from one of your older succulent seed videos (I think 2019?) and your videos have given me the confidence to jump into gardening. Just planted 4 species (3 echeveria and a sinocrassula yunnanensis)! And I swear I’m just sitting here watching them lol. How do you stay patient?? Lol.
I saw one of your other previous videos on cactus seeds! I hope this info is the same for cactus germinating! I already have 3 sprouts in my first seeds and I’m so scared and nervous not to kill them :O
Thank you so much for the great information I bought seeds from over seas last year and totally thought it was the same as any other like flower or vegetable seed . So I bought 500 seeds for a little over a dollar and now something tells me their not going to grow but I will try anyway using your method after 4 or 5 months if nothing happens I will go to the link you provided and buy more seeds.
Yes! I’ve been waiting for this video. Loved the tips at the end. When you transplant the succulents in their own pots, do you keeps the same sand/perlite/soil mix or change it up?
Hi there, this is really great and informative! I also took a shot at trying to grow the bunny ear succulents like in your previous video ( i couldn't find them in my area) - when do I know when to re-pot them with new soil/container? like how big should these little sprouts before I move them?
This was sooo informative thank you!!! I am growing mine from seed ! It took three weeks to see a little stem it makes me sooo happy! Big thank you for the window talk tip info. I am in Canada and right now they are near the south window indoor. But our winters…:/ I’ll have to invest in a light… do the light keep the succulent warm ??? Do you have any recommendation ? :)
The lights kept mine a little warmer, if the room is still cold, you might want to get a heat mat too but I have got success without one, probably depends on the space. I absolutely love gardener supply lights, but they are pretty pricey. You can find some on Amazon for pretty cheap, they sell ones that are just a single bulb and if you have a small set up, that might work for you. Our nursery also sells lights, so you could check a local nursery to see if they have any. If you order on Amazon, I would just read some reviews to make sure other people are liking them and there aren’t any safety concerns. There should be links in the description box to some recommendations.
I'm waiting on my seeds to come in to start growing. I'm new to all this but I'm so in love with everything about a succulents.. can you guide me with the soil and sand combination what is the best sand can I buy it online..
Do you feel like it's faster to grow by leaf cutting? If so is there a reason why or an advantage to grow them by seed? Love the 2 seedling videos btw! :)
New viewer and grower of baby cacti lol But I’ve grown up in ag and went to college for the same and I think you could manipulate your succulents into flowering. Maybe watering slightly more often and simulate a rainy season. The plant knows it’s seeds have to have a lot of water to grow, so making the plant think it’s raining all the time it may spit out a flower. Like I said at the beginning I’m completely new to this but listening to the past two videos this is my “uneducated hypothesis”
How do I know if my seedlings are stretching? I'm seeing sprouts after a week and they appear pretty tall for there size so I was wondering what to do?
Im having some troubleshooting, my seedlings etiolated and i think the bottom part of the stems rotted, is there any chance they’ll grow more roots from the top part of the stem? They have like 6 leaves so they’re not that young
I usually just have the issues with this green stuff shown(my guess is it is algae). But yes, keeping the lid shut does cause this, so that is why I try to bake the sand in the oven to have the best luck possible. I don’t think it hurts the plant to much, but it is important to keep the lid shut so
hello, I’m buying a bunch of seeds for me and my grand mother to take care of and I’d like to know what temperature do you consider warm? my country is hot almost all year round and my warm(normal) is 30ํ celsius but some info on the internet tell me 15-20 celsius is good, while some says 25-27. we’re learning this together but still confuse a little bit.
You can also let the pot dry out and moisten it again after a few weeks. Sometimes you have to dry out & rewet then a couple times before they germinate.
