Part 2 of the Ultimate Coast-to-Coast / America's Longest Book Drive: 7500 miles for 7500 books on a 2003 Harley-Davidson Road King Classic from Key West, Florida to Deadhorse Prudhoe Bay, Alaska.

Part 2 begins with an almost unbearably hot and humid ride north on US1 from Key West, FL to Polk County, FL. After catching up with family and a quick visit with Blockhead Moto the next day, I waste no time in getting back to Charlotte for a night in my own bed.
The Iron Butt Association's Ultimate coast-to-coast challenge is Key West, FL to Deadhorse Prudhoe Bay, AK in 30 days or less.

I noticed your wearing a black helmet, black jacket,, your cooking yourself in the Florida Sun ! In this Florida heat I wear BRIGHT/REFLECTIVE Colors ,, it reflects the hot sun and makes me more visible to these wonderful Florida drivers ,, I put on the dark colors in fall when I want the sun to help keep me warm 😉👍🇺🇸

I find the Arai helmet to very well ventilated and the black jacket is a Dianese air mesh… I had no problem with either while moving, but being stopped or in slow traffic was absolutely brutal. I’m not sure color would make too much difference

Ive lived and ridden in Florida for over 30 years and it boggles my mind why people wear heat attracting black clothing. A long sleeve white silk or spandex shirt is golden. youll never feel hot.

While I was moving it wasn’t so bad, I had an air mesh jacket over an under-armor style shirt. But when I stopped or was stopped at a red light, it was brutal.

You may have hit higher temperatures somewhere else, but 93 degrees with Florida humidity sounds pretty brutal.
