In part two, I tear down the cummins onan QG 4000, show it's inner workings, as well as narrow down the root cause of failure.

I tore my generator out last spring to fix my mounting bracket. I thought I had everything labeled good however, I cannot figure out where the 110 neutral wire is suppose to be hooked up to. The wire should terminate under the control panel

Wish I could help on this one. honestly can't remember, other than I remember not really needing to pull apart that section of wiring. Hopefully this summer I can get a hold of a used unit and break down every part for you guys.

That neutral wire is connected to the same bolt as the ground.

I'd say show the first and last bolt and either cut the middle or speed up the video. Exceptions would be if there's something unusual with those bolts or if you're using that time to explain something.

I appreciate the feedback. I was really new to making videos when I made these. I hoping to bring more generator content here soon.

They did away with the low oil level sensor and if one runs low on oil they usually blow up. The rod breaks and might break something else. I don't usually replace engines or fix them when they have a major failure.....To costly in parts and labor.....I work on them all the time. 20+ years ....I am an Onan dealer.....

I think its very silly they did away with the sensor. I imagine it was corporate/cost savings that made the call to do away with it. Thank you for the input.

What year did onan stop adding low oil sensors?
@richb4099
@richb4099 Год назад
@@TJ-bl6lr I don’t know exact year but it was not long after they went to that design. It caused random shutdowns so I assume they did away with it. I’ve seen a number of blown engines due to low oil.

The low oil pressure switch was just too sensitive I guess. I can be frustrating when trying to figure out the problem with that switch causing problems. I wish they would keep the switch, but make it easier to get to so you can just quickly test it.
@richb4099
@richb4099 10 месяцев назад
@@prohomevideos That was a low oil LEVEL switch...not pressure. There is no oil pump in one of those there is nothing to make pressure. Lubrication was splash only. The level switch was like a float design. Many small engines have a similar switch and they can cause problems.....It grounds the ignition if triggered.....no spark....unit shuts off.....

That one will probably never run again

Got it to run. Had to get a used unit that was in a fire. Put the two together and it works!

Its rare to see the guts of an rv generator. You could really grow your channel if you focus on generator and rv engine troubleshooting. Its hard to find a shop that will take a motorhome due to size.
@aiyogarage
@aiyogarage Год назад
I’d like to as well. The hard part is I charge by the hour out at the RV lot and I wouldn’t want my customers to feel like I’m taking advantage of their time. But honestly trouble shooting an rv engine is the same as just working on a big truck or work van. I will say most of the time. Do you have anything in particular you’re having trouble with that I could help you out with?

Those 3 bolt holes in the flywheel are to pull it off with. A factory manual is readily available online for free , you obviously have no clue what your doing

Hey thanks Kevin. Really appreciate the feedback. I also really appreciate all the videos that you've made showing people how to fix things and take things apart. CLEARLY you know whats up. Thanks for checking out the channel.

You destroyed a multi hundred dollar part that only requires a basic harmonic balancer pulley, factory manuals are free to download. Bad information is bad information regardless if it is free.
