Would love to see this video go viral and inspire some kind of a padlock-building competition amongst woodworkers; who can get closest to your standards, all the honourable failures, variants, etc.
OK, I'm mildly terrified with the tolerances you saw with the table saw. But, your work speaks for itself. I am becoming convinced your are a intergalactic visitor you just stopped by to show us mere mortals a few things.
Ok. I've watched parts 1 & 2, and, fabulous work! I love it! I too like to tinker with locks. I found a book of a guy who's made several wooden locks. All different types. Really cool. However, his are of a larger size. Oversized for whatever reasons. Now, yours is life size. Meaning, friggin awesome! So cool. Finally...NOOOOOOO! Don't destroy it! Pick it!
Even a beautiful grain-book-match on the two halves of the lock body! Natch. This piece of work belongs in whatever museum pays homage to gutsy woodworking projects of great ambition. Well played, music & all
AMAZING AND INCREDIBLE LOOKING AND FUNCTIONING LOCK! Now, another challenge...if you are up to it? I once saw in a wood carvers museum that they had a tree (yours does not have to be a whole tree!)into a wooden chain. You could make a chain that your lock could in fact lock something up with. The real challenge is that the "tree chain" was one continuous link. Meaning NO cutting and gluing pieces up together. Are you up for the challenge? Love the way that you challenge yourself and push your talent to be better. Plus, a combination lock would be cool as well!

Thank you! Im glad you like it! A combination lock would actually be pretty easy since the hardest part to make is the core and it doesn’t have one. Maybe I’ll make one though! Yes I’ve seen the chain carvings! They are quite impressive! Perhaps I’ll try!
Woah, that’s amazing! So many tiny fiddly bits in that lock. I don’t know if i have the patience in my projects. Nice job!

Thank you! There’s so many different problems to over come that it never really feels repetitive which makes patience less of a problem! For me at least

I wonder if you could have steam bent a dowel for the horseshoe shaped shackle part...

I'm sure it would have been possible! Or at least steam bending laminated layers. I may try to do that in the future, would add a lot to the lock for sure!
