Moussa Molo Balde (or Musa Molo or Muusa Moolo) was a former ruler of Fouladou - a province of Haute-Casamance in the south of present-day Senegal.
Born in Sulabali around 1846, he is the son of the Fulani leader Alpha yaya Molo Balde.
Between 1887 and 1893 he began by collaborating with the French and took part in the capture of the marabout of Boundou, Mamadou Lamine Dramé, on December 1887. Galliéni described him as "one of the most intelligent leaders in this whole part of Sudan"1 .
But in 1903, it was the break with France and he fled to Gambia.
He was interned in Bathurst, now Banjul, then exiled for a few years in Sierra Leone.
He died in Keserekunda in Gambia in 1931, but Fouladou had definitely finished being Fulani land.
Moussa Molo's tata is in Ndorna (department of Medina Yoro Foulah), one of the villages where he usually stayed. This tata is now on the list of Classified Sites and Monuments2.
