Welcome to my channel My Etsy store is : To be loved treasures by Corrine www.etsy.com/au/shop/ToBeLove... Thanks again everyone for joining me on this new adventure. Regards Corrine To be loved treasures
A group of ladies at church made baskets without tops like that. We would cut out pictures from greeting cards and the ladies that could crochet would put them together. Once they were done, we would fill with small gifts and give to people who were sick or been in the hospital.
My nanna used to do that craft work the sewing box . It was made from cereal boxes old cards and plastic from the shirt boxes . You crochet around the edge then joined together. I remember nanna had a telephone book cover . Memories
Corrine, according to Google the irons with the curved bases were used for ironing lace and delicate fabrics so it wouldn’t catch the threads. Lots of your stash reminds my of the embroidery and crochet lace my mother used to make. So lovely.
Hanky box made with greeting cards and crocheted together, heaps on Pinterest, and instructions also. I remember both Grandmothers had them. I was in Smythsdale last weekend and bought the same carded thread for mending stockings. Also got the old cotton reels and a tiny one for my needle keeper in my huswif.
Wow! Your panel is gorgeous! TFS❤️ Your trip and treasure haul was fun to see. Glad you are on the mend. No fun being ill! Prayers for renewed strength as you continue your packing and moving.
The Christmas panel you were gifted I have those Santa’s I painted in ceramics about 30 years ago, so definitely vintage material. Congratulations on the haul & fun. 🎉🌻💃
I have some of those needle turn applique finger tip towels - almost exactly like the ones you showed. Crazy to me that mine are from upstate New York in the mid 1980s and you find some in Australia. I think they were mass produced in China, they were quite inexpensive in the 80s. So much to look at - I"d have been in sensory overload. Thanks for taking the time to film, edit and share.
I love seeing all your pieces. It’s fun to see the doilies you got and seeing new patterns. I’m up to my eyeballs in crochet doilies. But I certainly don’t pay the prices your paying.
Hi Corrine, I bought one of the greeting card 'boxes' last year as I remembered them from childhood and went down a rabbit hole researching afterwards. I believe there is a woman in Melbourne who has researched them and from memory was writing something about them. I can't recall where I found that information, but it is definitely not an Australian-only craft from the past. They were typically made from Christmas and birthday cards because they were an ideal size. There are a number of places where I found instructions on how to construct one, but I thought the patterns were a bit basic and missed some of the charm of the old ones you see from time to time.
lol.. I have been down that rabbit hole all weekend.. Retro postcard boxes.. found a lot of videos and even die cuts.. saves punching all the little holes.. I’m satisfied now.. got my noodle around them.. lol
Another lovely treasure trove of goodies. The panel you did from Susanna is beautiful, can't wait to get a proper look. Hope you are feeling much better by now.
Hi Corine, when you say Burrum do you mean Burrum Heads .I lived there for 25 yrs now in Ipswich. I do miss the place very much. I opened the beauty salon next to the fish and chips shop., but had to give it up due to poor health. Love your videos, speedy recovery with your cold.🐇🐾🐰💐🍫
Love your videos. I've learned something new every video I've watched! You might try echinacia. Two weeks on two weeks off. I go years between colds and flu.
Treasure trove of goodies for sure! Glad you are on the mend…hope the 👁️ heals up quickly. The basket looked very familiar. Look up either Victorian baskets or Depression era baskets. I remember seeing similar ones as a child in the southern U.S. (Louisiana). So may have been made post-WWII.
When I was a child we were given little metal tins like that for Christmas with toffees in them. Also, my Grandma used to make the boxes from pretty cards and crochet the sides together, I used mine for my handkerchiefs and wished I’d kept it. Everything old is new again.
Sweet little irons... I'm in the U.S. I would use a bit of sewing machine oil and scrub with what we call steel wool to remove rust. Glad you had so much fun on your trip. Sharon in Indiana (long time watcher - but I just don't comment !)
Wowzers! I love your souvenir style - treasures first (those wee irons, sigh!), then only the necessaries if there's room! I once bought a whole hand-painted ceramic sink in Mexico while on a cruise! I made it fit in my suitcase! Going through Customs was very fun! The officer was quite surprised when he questioned me about what I had purchased & insisted on a search! It was nerve-wracking, but it all fit again and made it home safely. I loved it! So much better that "just a post-card"! Love your panel of houses! Already purchased mine from the Young Susanna. I'm looking forward to starting that project up soon. Sending wishes for a speedy recovery, a quick, easy, tremendous house sale and a huge sigh of relief when you can be all together at your beautiful new dream of a home by the sea. XO from Michigan USA
Beautiful things you came home with. The house panel is wonderful, I loved seeing the different versions by everyone. Those irons, I’d google how to remove rust and restore cast iron. Rust should rub off, may need a steel wool. I think you mean stockinette stitch for the knitting. I hope you feel better soon. Sorry that you started falling apart as soon as you got there. It was wonderful seeing you and everyone in the videos. I can only dream of a gathering like you had, or the one the Roxy girls had with Fleur. Feel better soon. 🤗❤️
I was very excited to get a look at all your adventures, (yours' and Susanna's, that is). It seems to me that as far the collected works of needle-women in your country, they have lasted longer than the like in my country. Its like fishing in a fish bowl! Amazing, beautiful, and I'm sure, so lovely in their next life. 💚💙
“I don’t know what I’m going to do with it” 😂 isn’t that the mantra of people like us. Just having these things and knowing that someone from long ago made them makes me happy. Happy hunting!
Enjoyed both videos. Take a dry tooth brush and brush the rust off your iron. Then take some very fine 0000 steel wool and sewing machine oil or gun oil and rub all over the iron. Was the word you were looking for "smocking"? Beautiful treasures!
Oh my goodness, you must have been popular with the old baggage handlers at the airport! 😂 Those irons are so cute and will make a great feature in your new craft studio but I’m so clumsy I’d have black toenails on account of dropping them.
Thank you Corrine for your video and for showing us your haul part 2. I once saw a curved iron in a large manor house/ museum. The guide said it was for ironing hats like mop caps. Loved all your finds. Please no need to apologise for not filming more, it was your time to enjoy yourself and go routing for goodies. You do enough for us. So glad you had a wonderful time. I hope there were no sulks from Fudge,Pepper and Bandit when you got back.
You were so fortunate to find so much fine crochet. I love it all. We crocheters appreciate all handmade work like that. I don’t find much for sale unfortunately. I can’t resist it when I see it but can’t bear to cut into anything, unless it is damaged. I always enjoy seeing hauls so enjoyed your video a lot.
I found your videos by accident and I’m in love! Your shopping for antiques, linens, and quilting fabrics makes me want to come to Australia. I’m a quilter but I dab my nails a lot of things and what an inspiration you are! Thanks so much for sharing! I’m in Southern Ohio and close to many antique malls and have been collecting similar items for years.
My nana made the boxes out of the years greeting cards. Punched holes and crocheted them together with clear book covering, they were gorgeous l don’t have any but they were lovely to store trims and braids
Yes Corrine, I’m with you on that being with like minded people. I need to find more.i watch you go into that Antique shop and I’d want to camp in there for a week, it would take me that long to get through all that stuff.
Those crochet baskets/boxes you're looking at...way over priced..OMG....but yes its got history...they were originaly made out of greeting cards and post cards with eithere crochet or sewing ... you can google and find many paterns to make..easy..its history is very old...a craft from all over the world...ps google vintage crochet card boxes...that should take you into a rabit hole...pps you'll start collecting really nice cards and you'll need a good whole punch...have fun..yes that will be a great box for you hussife...
Hello guys Corrine asked me to let you know the names of the Antique places we visited Daylesford Mill market, Castlemaine Vintage Bazaar, Smythesdale Antique shop - Ruth Howlet Collectables. And the the Historic town of Maldon not far from Castlemaine.. hope this satisfies the curiosity. Hugs Susanna xx
Hi would love ypur list of shops you went too on your trip to Ballarat as I would love to follow & go to these shops. I do have your list of your part 1 but cant find any links to your part 2 this video. Again thank you so much❤
ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-NrbSF44G-C0.html Cathe Holden has die cuts for them. It was a Victorian craft and can be found in Godeys Ladys Magazine and Petersons Magazine from the 1800s. Crochet bowls from postcards and greeting cards.
Oh .. a space rented by an artist or group of ladies .. usually for a few days.. plenty of good food ..accommodation nearby.. sit and stitch .. chat .. laugh.. and make new friends ! They are so much fun.
Another great video with beautiful treasures, thank you for showing us. I love those marketplace type places, I wish we had some of those on the Coast. The box is sometimes called a 'Hanky Box' for storing handkerchiefs in, normally made from used cards and covered with plastic type of film. I made one and in hindsight should have laminated the papers but it works beautifully anyway - ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-RcpyqRjxnII.html Take care and feel better soon 😊 - Jeanette
