WELCOME TO MY RIDE!
First of all… if you enjoy this video please give it a LIKE and share it with anyone you think might be interested.
- If you are a senior citizen cyclist, let’s chat and support each other’s aches and pains.
- If you are a young whipper-snapper, don’t pass us by as this channel talks explicitly about your future.
In addition to the city parks and beautiful bike lanes, there are two other “must see” sections of the city… (1) The “Upper Town” consists of a modern city with the expected large commercial and government buildings as well as the parks, the art, historical buildings, and other iconic sites. The Plains of Abraham, The Citadel, the Frontenac Hotel, and the stone buildings buildings housing shops, restaurants, and small apartments were on my list and I explored them. (2) The “Lower Town” consists of the port section and very old but well kept structures built up against the huge stone walls of the upper town. Due to time constraints of securing my car in an out of city parking lot I simply ran out of time and did not get to these areas. I have already begun planning next years’ Quebec Rail Trail camping adventures and will top it off by finishing up my tour of Quebec City - so Part 3 will take take in The Old Port and The Lower Town sometime next summer.
And, as demonstrated on many of my rides, getting lost is becoming all to common. My planning had me develop a route through the upper city and download it my cycling computer; once I hit detour signs and came upon roads closed for paving and repair, my planned route went out the window. Lost? Not really as the initial area I was aiming for was generally easy to navigate to. I kept getting glimpses of the Citadel area sitting high on the bluff and simply rode towards it. My message is to bring a paper map, know where you want to go, and don’t plan on a total reliance on your trusty cycling computer.
And when you take your bike into the city, you will certainly see the sights like you could never do from a car. That said, the lack of a secure bike parking facility means entering museums, restaurants, and other buildings is risky. Like any other big city, bike theft is an issue and locking your bike out on the sidewalk or street is not recommended.
